A few days ago was the release of the iPod Touch 2G jailbreak for 3.1.1 (as well as other devices). There is a bit of confusion because the Dev Team’s blog post says you must be pwned before jailbreaking. I’m sure a lot of people (like me) demonstrated the sad smiley to perfection when they read this. Luckily, there is a way to jailbreak it.

You’ll need the 3.0 firmware, RedSn0w, 3.1.1 firmware, and the latest PwnageTool. All these are available from the download page.

Here is a step-by-step guide/tutorial on how to jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G 3.1.1: (more…)

There have been more than enough rumors about what the new iPhone will have. I say, give me a break. Although we don’t have an inside source telling us, think about it. Now, see our reasoning below:

  • Lit Up Apple Logo On The Back

Seriously? First of all, this would look horrible. It would be bumping out, making it look bad. On top of that it would kill battery life. And think about it, a ton of users use a case for their iPhone. A lit-up Apple logo would be useless for them. Don’t see my point? OK, here’s a mock-up by us:

iphone_mock-up_fake

That is how odd it would look. Plus, an apple that small would not make a difference. But it would kill you battery life.

  • Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device

Again, I think this is very unlikely. So far, the two latest models have had this. Though I’m not saying it is completely fake, it is unlikely. Maybe Apple will bring the plastic black / white front to the edge as well.

  • Rubber-tread backing

Unlikely! Apple has kept on going with the metal back for the iTouches and has only changed the iPhone to plastic back. Considering most other phones are plastic, this is also unlikely. So far, the only proof is this:

iphone-3-macrumors-084x084

It’s an image MacRumors posted. I dunno… but I have seen fakes before. However, from Apple you never know.

  • Sleeker design

Possible…

Now a small listing of a few others. Faster speed, internet, and processor are all likely. It is needed and Apple will most likely deliver. Longer battery is also likely. FM transmitter: unlikely! Think about that. Higher resolution camera is likely. Since most smartphones also have this.  Built-in compass also sounds likely.

“Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations.” Doubt it!! I think people have things mixed up. I’m sure that they will let the camera take a pic and save the location and information about the compass. But I doubt the iPhone itself will inform you about the location. However, I think that with the data from the picture, when passed to the computer using Google Maps / Earth it will inform about the location.

Turn by turn directions is also likely as it is something heavily asked for. Also, a GPS company (forgot the name, think it was TomTom) posted somewhere they were looking for someone with iPhone coding experience.

This is just me reasoning here. I know some people will not agree, but that some might. But believe me, the rumors will keep on coming as WWDC gets closer. Don’t believe everything you read!!

NimbleBit (formerly know as Ian Marsh) who brought us the beloved Scoops and the addicting word game Textropolis, now brings us yet another addicting fun, yet simple game, “Sky Burger“.

Sky Burger puts you to work stacking burgers to order! Catch the right ingredients as they fall from the sky, and don’t forget that top bun when you’re done!

Build over 50 unique burger orders that grow taller and taller the more orders you complete. Complete enough orders in a row and build an unlimited SkyBurger!

Earn cash for each burger and get promoted up the Sky Burger corporate ladder. Watch your business grow with each promotion! Look back at your career stats and compare them to the top Sky Burger employees.

Sound like fun huh? It is. You must catch the right ingredients. The more orders you stack correctly, the faster / wilder the game will get! Then in a random order you will get a Sky Burger order. Basically this is a “wild order”. You just stack as high as you can. To make things more fun the game also has online stats and scores. (more…)

Since the App Store was launched there have been many pinball games for the iPhone. I’m pleased that someone finally made a good one that’s not too complicated or confusing. IUGO presents Freeballin’. Freeballin’ [iTunes Link] is a pinball game for iPhone that keeps the classic feel of pinball by using touch controls only. It has three modes (as said in the app description) :

• Score Attack
Aim high in points to become the Freeballin’ King! Careful, balls are scarce.

• Time Attack
Speed towards the targeted point value in a race against time.

• Adventure Challenge
Enjoy a fulfilling journey of pinball exploration and adventure. Earn tokens, collect artifacts and rule the world of Freeballin’!

The game also features 4 themes to play in (though I would call them worlds because each are rather diferent and are not small). I made a quick overview in Photoshop so you get an idea  of the themes (click to enlarge). But the levels go deeper back, it’s just hard to take screenshots with my new case:

overview

The themes are Tiki Trouble, Monsteropolis, Dreams & Nightmares, and Neometric. Each is quite different and entertaining.

The part of the game that is the most fun is that each theme / table has various missions to complete, making the game much more fun and giving it more of an objective. These missions also increase your score. Missions have you hit certain bumpers, go to or into certain areas, and interact with the theme.

Another thing that makes the game great is the quality of the content. Both the graphics and the audio of the game are well made and polished. I’m amazed, especially at the graphics. The game also features global score boards, giving players more of a motive to play and be constantly improving their scores.

As you can see I’ve been having quite some fun with the app :) . I don’t really have a complain other than a few bugs lying around here and there. Luckily an update fixing those and optimizing performance has been submitted to Apple. So bye bye bugs.

freeballin1

My experience with it has been rather nice. The polish on the audio and graphics keep you going, and all the missions (believe me there are quite a few) keep me entertained and away from getting bored. Plus I get to compete with people on the global score board.

Overall I highly recommend the app, especially since it is in a special introductory price of $1.99  (the price will go up soon!!!). I think anyone who has been looking for a good pinball game should take a look at this. And if the screenshots appeal to you take advantage! I believe this is the best pinball game available for the iPhone.

****Note on Updates****

There’s a small problem for those who do not have their language on the iPhone set to English. I believe it does not display the text. The fix for this is also included in the update that has been submitted to Apple for review.

About time someone brought a Tony Hawk-like skateboarding game to the iPhone. Fuel Industries has created Vans SK8: Pool Service [iTunes Link]. The game brings the skateboarding type of game everyone loves to the iPhone.

The game concept is simple (for now). You have one “pool” to skate in, two skaters (Bucky Lasek and Omar Hassan) , around 20 boards, and a bunch of wheels. One thing that is really cool is how you can customize your deck. You choose the skateboard and then the wheels you want. You play by tilting your device in the way you want your skater to move. You do tricks by swiping on the screen (it’s not so hard, really). And as to graphics, they are really good. Screenshots don’t really do it justice but take a look:

vans1

The game features a Career mode in which you must skate and accomplish certain achievements to unlock events. Overall, the game is quite fun. Plus it is unique. But I must say, it IS a bit short. However it’s not extremely short and it is not the kind of game you will get bored of.

My experience with the game so far has been great. There are a few bugs here and there but nothing major and it is getting fixed in an upcoming bug-fix update. The physics feel realistic, and the controls are very well implemented. I have no complaints (just requests for things to add in update :) ).  As I said the screenshots don’t do it much justice, but the video does give you a better idea:

Vans SK8 is currently priced at $4.99 . In my opinion the game is well worth it.  It brings iPhone one game closer to other consoles. Great job done by Fuel Industries, congrats on making the iPhone’s first skateboard game. It’s great!

As you may have heard, Apple has released another iPhone 3.0 beta. There’s not much to write about. The update is mainly to improve performance. How do we feel about it?

We have mixed feelings here… and we are a bit confused honestly. Although sometimes and in some places we thought “They fixed it”, it then went rogue. The OS is sucking up a lot of RAM. Of  course remember we tested this on a 1G iPod Touch. As you may remember after we posted about 3.0 here we had the chance to play with 3.0 on an iPhone 3G for a few minutes. The user said it was better than any other OS had run on his iPhone. And for the minutes we played with it, it seemed so.

Nothing new so far. There’s now a mysterious “Store” option / button in the Settings page. But when you tap it, it’s blank. Hmmm….

Other than that the other new thing we found is that the recovery mode thing is now purple?! Oh and picture MMS is working and other sites are reporting video MMS is also working. That’s about it guys.

Oh, how could I forget?! You now have 11 pages.  Go crazy with apps!!

For now that’s it. Let us know in the comments if you want to know anything and we’ll try to make you happy :P .

P.S: Maybe the purple recovery mode logo was an April Fool’s joke from Apple. After all they did release a blank album on iTunes (seriously!! Three blank tracks): iTunes Link

So it’s been a few days. We’ve been blogging and testing like mad, but we have not really found much else. We’ve just found a few small tweaks in stuff (we’ll be posting underneath now). Remember this is still a beta, so any juicy undocumented features is likely to be hidden until the release. So here we go:

  • New Safari features in Settings such as AutoFill (remembers passwords and usernames), and Fraud Warning (warns when you are in a fraudulent site).
  • Shake to Shuffle added. Not working great in this beta but it’s there.
  • The Stocks icon has been slightly tweaked. Nothing much really.
  • Maps features that iPhone users got in 2.2.1 have been added for the iPod Touch (such as street view, etc.)
  • Locate Me for the iPod Touch seems improved and more accurate.
  • Push Notification (at least for Mobile Me) is working pretty well.
  • Most 2.x apps appear to work
  • AppStore now installs app from the second page on. You can move the apps to the first page manually though.
  • MobileMe now has a “Locate my Device” option. Still not available on me.com
  • Mail now has “Load Remote Image” option to prevent spam (shout-out to the readers in the comments for clearing that up).
  • Restrictions have been updated and now block “Current Location” and allows setting what content is appropriate.
  • SpotLight is working quite well. A bit laggy once in a while but works pretty well.
  • The AppStore screenshot browsing method has changed a bit.
  • Emoji can still be enabled.
  • The 9 page limit is still there. (more…)
