Every time Apple comes with a new iPhone, I try to write a post about why their latest device sucks. It’s stronger than me. I like to be the devil’s advocate. Just like I wrote an article about why the iPad sucks a few months ago, I wanted to write an article about why the iPhone 4 sucks.
This time though it was slightly different because I don’t really think the iPhone 4 sux. Sure it has a few issues, but does it make it a sucky device? Absolutely not. I guess this article will cater to all the iPhone haters out there.
It has screen problems
If you’ve read just a little bit about the new iPhone 4, you probably came across articles mentioning the yellow spots on the screen. My iPhone 4 screen is completely yellowish, which is pretty annoying for a $742.69 device… Apparently, this is just a temporary issue though.
The screen breaks easily
There has been videos going around the web showing how the iPhone 4 screen, supposedly 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, can be easily scratched or even broken. So much for the NASA technology that was used to build these screens…
The battery sucks
Every year Apple claims the battery is better than the previous iPhone’s. Every year I find the same crappy battery life on my iPhone. My iPhone 4 battery sucks! It died after just about 24 hours of normal usage: no gaming, no video, just some light internet browsing and tweeting.
The antenna sucks
I haven’t had this issue but apparently the iPhone 4 antenna loses signal when then antenna band is touched. This is an isolated issue that has been reported by a few people. That’s still pretty inconvenient for a new device…
The carrier sucks
Unlike every iPhone blogger out there, I don’t have anything against AT&T. The coverage in my hometown (Encinitas, CA) is excellent, except on the beach where no carrier has coverage anyway. However, it sucks that we are locked to only one carrier in the US. I am pro-choice. I don’t care who gets the iPhone next, I just want to have the option to choose my carrier.
Apple’s multitasking sucks
Apple’s “fake multitasking” sucks for 2 reasons. For one, it’s not real multitasking because not all apps can take advantage of it. Sure you can argue that multitasking drains the battery, but that’s not the point here. Second reason why multitasking on the iPhone 4 sucks is because it quickly gets ugly in your app switching dock since Apple doesn’t kill apps until the OS deems it necessary. At any time I have between 10 and 20 apps in my app switcher, making it very busy.
Storage limitation sucks
One of the big let downs of iPhone 4 is the storage limitation. Although Apple could have put 64GB of storage in there, they claim they didn’t have the room for it. I think they just want to sell you a 64GB iPhone next year. That sucks because marketing is taking over customer needs.

Its awesome I’m happy!!! The screen is magnificent I use contacts and its feels like when I have a fresh new pair lf contacts… Lol. Jk bit it does feel like an hd …. It’s is very snappy
The iPhone is a fun toy but not a great tool for business. Mobile
Me syncing is buggy, it can’t send from separate email accounts without duplicating all your ails, the battery runs down quickly, and the vibrator ring is much too short to be commonly noticeable. There’s more but that will do for now. The phone is overrated. I am going back to a Blackberry with push technology, compressed data and reliable multiple email accounts.
I have an iphone 4 well i dont really like iphone its my first time to have one, now that i’ve tried it . I will never buy another iphone, id rather have a sony ericsson. Cant send nor receive stuffs via bluetooth i hate that i cant take off the battery.. Im really wondering why lots of people likes iphone .
Why would you want to take out the battery? Even if it was replaceable apple would still make it expensive.
I think iPhone 4 sucks because it made a handicapped guy homeless for a week.
I have not upgraded my device to iOS4 yet. I have a 3GS old bootrom jailbroken and unlocked with Blackra1n. Keep getting 1600 Error with the custom firmware made with pwnagetool. Anyways, the multitasking does sound like garbage, no wonder your phone died in 24 hours if it has that many apps to run in the background. there is no way to choose if you want an app to run in the background or not? Thats lame. Thats where backgrounder is nice. And SBSettings cuz you can kill your processes that are running at anytime. I am not impressed with some of these issues the iPhone 4 is having!
iOS 4 sucks… it is slow and buggy. multitasking is not intelligent enough to know what app to shut down. two glossy panels (front and back) means that you have to spend money to take care of both the front and the back of the phone. iTunes needs to be revamped…
Nice post. Hey but regarding the dock, u can always long press the apps which are in the app switching dock and they will start wiggling. A delete symbol appears on top of each icon when they wiggle. So u can kill any app when u wish.

I ran the antenna tests with 3 new phones here at work. I was able to replicate the problem on each of them (using speedtest app). I think this is going to be reproducible on ALL iphone 4′s. The question is how many people will hold their phone in a way that causes the issue. On top of that, you can solve it by putting a case on it, however it is dumb that this is even a problem.
I just dropped by 3G yesterday, and it shattered. I am pretty paranoid about double the glass on the iPhone 4, so I think I am going to wait on my purchase…..
I think I can live with all these ‘thumb downers’ that you have menrioned. All I care about using on this device is the FaceTime. The only drawback is this feature only works with 2 iphone4s which I have to bear to buy because my wife and I use chat messenger more than anything else with my iPhone.
I agree the multitasking is horrible. At least jailbreaks can fix that.

Agreed. Did anyone else think the reviews all over the internet (particularly the Engadget review) gave the phone too much credit? This phone would have been nice about a year ago (if it had been released instead of that crappy 3GS) but in the world of 8 Megapixel shooters with 4G and HDMI ports, I fail to see how this thing really impresses so much. Lets break this down:
1.) 5 MP Camera
Sure it’s about “capturing photons” (thanks Steve for your ignorance on electromagnetic physics.) But in the end, it’s just a marketing strategy to keep people away from the far-superior 8 MP phones out there. Try taking a picture with the Nexus 1, iPhone 4 and then something like the EVO 4G. Result? The Nexus and iPhone are about the same (even though the Nexus doesn’t “capture” as many photons.) and the EVO blows away both in terms of picture quality.
Conclusion: Pixels have always mattered the most, if they didn’t, then how do you explain “Retina display” Apple?
2.) Battery
It’s clear now that Apple doesn’t want you to have a replaceable battery in your Phone; this is obvious because Apple would lose too much potential revenue through it’s “Battery Replacement program” which I would like to say is disgustingly expensive and costs 4-5 times the amount it would to do it yourself.
Also, I noticed that the Engadget reviewer,Joshua Topolsky, was having euphoria over the apparent “Amazing battery life.” Just to quote [original source Engadget iPhone 4 review, some portions omitted]
“In fact, we managed to squeeze more than 38 hours — yes, 38 hours — of life out of a single charge using the phone as we normally would. …the battery life seems markedly improved in the iPhone 4, and why not? It’s got a much larger battery coupled with that iPad-powering A4, which has already shown that it can sip rather than gulp power.”
Sure Josh, 38 hours, got it. Perhaps if you turned off all the features like 3G, Location Services, Brightness all the way down, etc and used the phone to check email every once in a while it would last a full day, but certainly not 38.
Conclusion: The battery still gets eaten up like Krispy Kreme Donuts
3.) The Glass Screen or should I say, The Glass $creens.
Ok Steve, we get it, you can make a sexy looking device. But similar to a Trophy wife who has all the looks, you made a gadget which has HIGH MAINTENANCE, written all over it. Everyone already knows how the old iPhones were prone to cracked screens; Apple picked up on this and saw it as an opportunity to make even MORE money off repairs. Great job Apple, charging us for 2 Glass screens instead of one.
Conclusion: Apple has taken their genius marketing strategy to new heights!

apple also made a big deal about face time recognition but that featere sux, it requires wi-fi whereas evo 4g has that feature but it use the network instead of wi-fi

Haha well android does have a lot of features and I was planning going android but I tried my girls droid Eries and the user interface is horrible using the web browser is very painful to use.. The open source software is good but until google improves its GUI and gets a good manufacture to make beautifulg hardware il probably switch then…. You cant just slap high spec technology on a phone what matters is how it is done…

Wel, Nice try but far short, My Droid incredible is a superior phone and faster with better multitasking and flash lite,soon to be full flash with Froyo OS and a 2/3 speed increase. Apple blew it with this. AT&T doesnt help either. 1.5G in most areas…If you want an image buy an apple, if you want a tool to do the job right buy a Droid Incredible or other Android product.

Sorry man, but your conclusion about the camera is off. You’re buying into the marketing strategy that every other camera maker wants you to believe. I haven’t read what Jobs said, but the number of pixels is NOT what matters most. I’ve argued that on this site before. And the technology in a high res display (like the retina display) has nothing to do with the image capture quality of a camera. Now this doesn’t mean that the EVO camera you’re talking about isn’t better than the others, but it’s not just because it’s an 8mp camera.
As a photographer I just hate to see this misconceptions continue to spread. By the way, I have an old 6 megapixel DSLR that I’m pretty sure will “blow away” the 8 megapixel EVO camera.

It makes me very sad, the fact that a tech guy like you who is also the owner and author of an iphone blog (which is a tech,gadget thing) would ever applaud a comment like MDS’s!!! That comment is full of inaccuracies, and make it clear that this guy has a very limited knowledge on the subject!!
A simple common knowledge would have prevented you guys from this dissapointment in regards battery
1) Will the battery run longer with 4 times the amount of pixels from the previos iphones ?. NO
2) Will the battery run longer with a processor running at almost twice the speed of the previos iphones (although A4 claimed to be less power consuming) ? NO.
3) Will the battery run longer with some many apps in the background ?. NO.
4) Will the battery run longer with the antenna issue ? (remember when signal is low the phone has to use more power to search for higher levels of reception) NO
We have sacrified battery life for beauty. Not worth it. My 3.1.2 memory-clean 3G deactivated and brightness to %50 3GS runs for full 3 days including texts, calls and a bit of internet. I even doubt OS4 will be able to perform as good in such very same conditions.

When iPhone 3GS about to come, I was already expecting an OLED touch screen, and no OLED screen on 3GS, and 3MP camera without flash. My Sony Ericsson K800i, which was 2 years old at the time iPhone 3GS launched, has 5mp and flash and took better pictures then iPhone 3GS
And even iPhone 4 still does not have an OLED screen. IPS is a good technology, vibrant color and good viewing angle. But it is yesterday technology. OLED produces even more vibrant and better color saturation. It also produces darker black, which is the weakness of LCD technology comparing to plasma counterpart. And most importantly, it uses less power.
iPhone 4 is a good phone, but in my opinion, not good enough for the price premium and iPhone expensive exclusive plans.
The competitors have closed the gap. Samsung already launched the Galaxy S and the Droid party are very aggressive with the updates and new hardware.
Hey brainwashes why do you allways want to take attacking positions?? Look, even if iPhone 4 was the masterpiece of tech you don’t have to spread your good feelings about that, why not to put the 8 mp camera there or better put a 18 because it’s a new iPhone and that will make it brilliant not some fake,hypocrite features.. Do you think Steve jobs has in his home the gadgets from apple that you too buy?? I don’t think so .. They have the 90% of the technology and knowledge and they sell you only 5 or 10 % of that for the highest price, and this sounds to me like some god damn illuminati!

Agree with sotiris. Inaccurasies galore by mds. Any phone breaks when dropped repeatedly. U think droids don’t break if u drop 4 times? How fucking stupid are u people? And more pixels per inch (a lot more) is better than more mega pixels. It’s a fact. Botching about it breaking if u drop is so moronic I’m livid right now. Drop your plasma and see what happens. And the battery? The battery rocks. The iPad is amazing. But u wrote that that sucks too. Now this. And iPhone 4 sucks because u want choice. What dies that have to do with the phone sucking? Good thing I am neutral. I only buy products that make sense:
EVO 4G: $10 per month price premium added to the plan: super fast internet and no semi face time crap that only works with wifi. It use the network instead
iPhone: $30 per month added to price premium just to have an iphone and web crawling speed
Price difference: $20/month, $480 for 2 year contract and no cat and mouse chase game with Apple
I updated my iPhone 3G to IOS4, some of the features are cool, but some things seem to be running slower. I’m a little put out. I use Safari a lot, but it seems like it’s taking longer to load. Also, since I don’t have the 3Gs I can’t put a picture up for my springboard! What the heck?!?! That’s ridiculous! I like the design of the iPhone 4, and I think I would definitely like it better if it didn’t break so suddenly after being released.
compared to other smart phones comming out it is a bit slow, and out dated aleady. Most all the android phones have faster processors, and a bigger,clearer screen. even the HD2 with winmoble 6.5 performs better. From what I have read and heard, there is very little differance with the layout of the new Iphone OS. Iphone has not made any real changes since gen 1. A friend has both the nexus one and the iphone 4, and according to him, iphone just falls short of the nexus. The sad part is, Nexus will be out dated by the end of the summer with all the new android phones comming out. Granted, the speed really depends on the carrier and location. Here in the midwest, tmo gets better coverage then att in most areas, also next month tmo is suppose to start it’s version of 4g. which most its phones made in the past year or so will work in it. No clue when ATT or Sprint 4g (( sprint 3g does not cover much here)) will come. tmo 4g has been test to be faster then sprint 4g.
It really comes down to preferance though. Since android phones are open source, they are simply about to do more then an Iphone. I currrently have the mytouch 3g, and most everyone I know with the iphone 3g ask to barrow my phone becuase theirs just dont cut it in this area. Iphone does have its fanbase, but with all the various android phones comming out, i think it will deffently have a fight on it’s hands. Most all the smart phones will have a 1 gig processor. Moto is rumored to have a 2gig android phone comming out this year.

Spec-wise, yeah, EVO wins hands down. But iPhone will sell more becuase Apple has better koolaid. People want what’s popular. These are the same people who know nothing about setting up the security on their wireless routers. Also, IMHO, Sprint has the best plans. They finally caught up with the times.
I can’t believe it Seba, but you actually talked me out of getting an iPhone 4, even though my 3G is broken. I have to admit, I was pretty put off by the thousand people in line at the Apple store this morning, but I was just going to wait a few days to buy it. But not now… I’m gonna find someone that’s willing to give up their 3GS cheap. No more AT&T for me!

Had the ip4 for 2 days now and I have to say it is a much clearer look than my 3gs. I have had issues with the proximity sensor not “seeing” my face when I put the phone on my shoulder. It has allowed my face to cancel calls, put them on hold or mute it in the middle of conversations. I have dealth with the “sweaty hands” issue by buying a $20 case.
All the android fanboys out there, I agree, your software is hands down more flexible, upgradeable and can do more. However, it cant do it as simply, elegantly or easily as ios. There are millions of people out there who dont want to tinker, hack and endlessly configure their devices. They just want them to work! Thats why apple has the fanbase it does. IMHO
Ohh, and another myth that its been going for ages, is that Android is more open and you can do whatever you want with it because its Open Source. BS! While this is true for its Kernel. Android is as open as iOS,Windows,Mac OSX. You dont believe me? Then why hackers rooted Android phones to get root accounts so that they really do whatever they want with it? Please people stop pasting thinks you read here and there if you dont have the knowledge to confirm it!

Sebastien, I’m surprised that you replied, your approbation to my post means a lot! I was actually looking for the 3GS Jailbreak and stumbled upon your post, which I found to be oddly similar to how I perceived the new iPhone. Finally, after digging through all the majestic praise that the iPhone had been receiving, I found your unbiased, unprejudiced post, and I can pretty much say that you hit it spot on.
As for my technical knowledge on the device, I had made no such claims; most if not all of you will clearly dominate me in the area. However, if you’ve ever worked in an environment in which the modus-operandi is Marketing and not technical skills, you will realize that the general public cares less about the little details and more about what that gadget will do for them.
My first post wasn’t meant for the people who like to analyze the minute details but rather, for the masses; Apple’s primary target. What’s more is that even well known Tech guru like Sabastien felt that the negatives outweighed the positives, at least that’s what I can see from his article.
Apple makes good products, I’m not criticizing the iPhone for it’s juggernaut level of success. However, it seems like the device has created so much hype that all reviews give a false, grandiloquent impression that the iPhone is some sort of epitome of perfection. Truth of the matter is that most of you are already brainwashed by Apple’s titanic marketing strategy, but one must never fall victum to such tactics.Oh and here’s another surprise for those who think I’m some sort of Android fanboy…. “-Sent from my iPhone.”

The iPhone is not the amazing wonder that many of you want to believe. PDA smart phones were not new. Sadly, I find the open funtionality of an older OS like Windows Mobile to be far superior for my needs; none of the locked down nonsense like Apple’s devices.
The largest portion of functionality is offered by the sheer volume of third party apps; a market that only exists because the iPhone is so popular. At the same time, I find that fact to be the bane of iPhones as I scroll past the hundreds of completely useless apps. It’s almost disgusting to watch people use a $600 device for fart sounds. I guess that’s how some people prioritize their cell phone needs.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the device (I’m on my iPod Touch 3G at the moment). My point is simply that there are other comparable and better options out there.

Everything in this post is based on speculation and ONE users experience. Being that this in two days has been the best selling phone in the history of phones, there could literally have been over 10,000 people with major problems and it would still be considered a major major success. You people are not business savvy. It’s a fact that it’s quite phenomenal when a product so gorgeous and technical as this, can launch with such a minimal amount of people reporting problems. Not to mention, IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM THEY WILL GIVE YOU A NEW ONE. Try doing that with ANY other phone company. “Hey HTC, my phone keeps crashing. Oh what’s that, go f*ck myself?”
As for the phone “breaking when dropped” MAYBE you should learn to hold your phone correctly dumb*ss and stop dropping things. Things tend to not break when you don’t drop them. Try dropping your precious EVO or Droid X. See how that holds up. That piece of plastic trash would SHATTER.
This idiot just wants people commenting on his blog. Well, here is my comment…The fact is there is no phone out here that can withstand that kind of abuse. There are several videos showing that the screen is pretty much scratch proof when it comes to keys and sharp objects, yet there are no videos showing this yellowing you mention. Finally, you might be right with some of the other points, but the fact is that for now the iPhone is the best mobile phone out there.
Why don’t people go and buy a freaking camera if that is what they desire, it’s a phone people… I love how everyone thinks they are photographers and writers because they blog and there cell phones are massive pixels.. If you don’t have the talent, it doesn’t matter… If the phone sucks, sell it and buy what you think doesn’t suck

Wow I have been reading these posts about the flaws they are finding but as a actual owner I am not experiencing a single problem. The screen is absolutely beautiful, it runs far more smoothly than my friends nexus one and my other friends evo.
Me and my friends at work tried to wrap our hands all the way around the phone an couldn’t get it to drop a bar. Maybe I am just lucky but I havnt seen another phone that ever comes close to this. I have played with every android phone I can get a hold of and they are great but I still got to give the edge to the iPhone.
It’s smoother, the UI and user experience is far superior and the video and photos look far better. I’m an art director that specializes in usabilty for an interactive agency so I have a special appreciation for the attention to the simplicity of the device. Don’t get me wrong most android phones are pretty sweet but it really comes down to what the user is like. Android phone are great for the makes zaby folks who like tinkering and having very option under the sun. But some just want a great experience that they can figure out using simple learned behaviors. Also with over 580,000 more Apps than android there is a great selection ou there for ios users. Granted there are the ifarts out there but let’s be realistic. there is a market for it. Let’s hope that Google and Apple continue to kick it up. Hopefully the broadband companies will someday get with the times. And I’m sorry but I havnt seen a windows phone yet that looked worth a darn.

Hey jack, just wanted to tell you that the evo, is in fact better than the iphone you retard. Engadget had a poll. evo vs iphone4, evo won by a long run obviously… This wasnt even fair because you cant compare an android to a crappy iphone.
The iPhone 4 sucks. In addition to the issues you have listed, it also complains it is TOO HOT to operate despite having been in a air conditioned office for the past 4 hours. Absolfreakalutely ridiculous.
@Amd – I wasn’t aware that engadget’s polls were sanctioned by a repuatable source to conduct controlled scientific analysis of the new iPhone’s performance! Oh whats that you say? They don’t? May I point out that it’s also too bad no one has/wants sprint.
@Adam, you sir, probably have every app open just idling. Close some apps. My friends and I all have the new iPhone (5 ppl.) Not even one phone has heat issues.
Has dropped every other call. They claim it’s holding phone by the antenna. Tough to buy when your on sync in the car or not holding it while on speaker. Tough to hear voicemail with speaker. Dropping calls when your business depends on it sucks. Les

Apple is not great in terms of technology, but they are awesome in marketing. A lot of other brands have innovated what Apple is only recently launching. Apple simply took the technology, and marketed the product in perfect fashion. If your brain is working, you will understand my point.

I don’t think the iPhone 4 sucks, but its shortcomings as a phone, and a “smartphone” keep me from ever wanting one. “ingenious phone” is a better description of the iPhone than “smartphone.” Its multi-tasking is hardly that. Its antenna design is dumbfounding. It can’t handle many web pages, including any that display flash content. But, it is a sleek, eye-catching device, with a cool UI, that will sell millions. Personally, I prefer my EVO, because it can handle anything you throw at it. I like the screen size. And it is still very pocketable. If you want true smartphone capabilities, the iPhone is surely not your best option. But, if “coolness” is your main concern, then the iPhone is your best bet.

Ok let me start by saying I have an iphone 3g and I do love it, but as far as I am concerned the newest iphone is outdated and a hunk of trash. When I say hunk of trash I don’t mean the form factor or overall look and feel of the design is trash, because I love it! But the so called amazing new features that everyone seems to believe is a god-send and the future of mobile computing/smartphone communications, etc obviously hasn’t the slightest clue as to what has surfaced the last few years. Please do us all a favor and do some research and learn a few things about what you read before you post stupid comments about things that far outweigh your knowledge base. I work in the computer industry, coding, electronic engineering, hardware manufacturing and I do know what I am talking about. Granted there are a few things I am less knowledgeable in : ) Yes, we all know that 5mp cameras have been out for something like 5 years now….not new. Does the iphone have hdmi output or full HD capabilities…no. Is facetime/video conferencing new fangled tech….hell no! A few small points and hardly worth talking about, but c’mon! I will reiterate the fact that i have an iphone and enjoy it, but Apple has always been a second rate company and make second rate devices. I know that will spark some debate, but we all know what people really crave is custom-ability. What they are VERY good at is advertising, and coupled with it the ability to sway us all into thinking we should buy their stuff…they have the money, resources and know-how to get it done. The thing they do as well, and Sony too, is create a bunch of proprietary crap, we have to spend our money on. On top of that, they also plan so that there is a new device, with one minute add-on every couple of months to keep their revenue stream flowing! That may be the most frustrating thing (think of ipods!) Plus all of these true (they can’t be falsified if hundreds of people have the same problem) statements about the loss of signal and screen frailty and so on….these things should be the least of Apple’s worries so why the problem?! What I DO think the iphone 4 has over other devices……is the fact that it is trendy, and i hate STUPID ASS people who only buy things because they are “cool” and “everyone has one”. It’s about time we start thinking for ourselves and buy things that make sense. I am no proponent for Android either. The GUI is lacking in my opinion Apple takes the cake on that one. But the Android system itself, especially with the Froyo update, is/and will be the next step forward. If I could take an iphone 4 form factor (slightly modified obviously) and fit it out with an AMOLED screen, better camera, HDMI output with full HD, and Android 2.2 (at this time), I would be in heaven. What’s even cooler is that a dual core snapdragon has just been created, and Toshiba just came out with a 128gb flash nand chip that will hopefully be seen in smart phones and things alike very soon!!! Just food for thought, this is a forum after all, so let’s all agree to disagree and try our best to be somewhat biased.

I’ll tell you what really sucks about the iphone4, when it’s time to replace the battery, you have to send it back to Apple. The battery is built-in, just like it is on the iphone 3′s and Apple retail stores cannot service the devices in a back room while you wait.
According to Apple’s website, the cost to replace a battery is $79.00 plus $6.95 shipping, and it will take 1 week from the time they actually receive the phone at their facility to repair OR replace it. Yes, Apple has the right to replace your phone w/another phone if they deem it necessary.
If you do receive your actual phone back, all memory on the phone will be wiped clean, so you’ll have to restore from itunes upon receiving it.
What the hell do you do for a phone while they’re replacing your battery? Including shipping time, it could take up to two+ weeks before you get your phone back.

I had my two year upgrade coming up and had to decide between the 3GS, the Palm Pre Plus, and the iPhone4. Needless to say the 4 won out. Have had no problems with the device. Dropped it in a jar of cooking grease at work and pulled it out quickly. It worked perfectly without a hitch. No liquid damage, even though i did recieve 3rd degree burns on my hand in my haste to retrieve the device. Great product!
I had my 2 year upgrade coming up around the release date of the iPhone 4 and its needless to say that i bought it immediately. Great product, and i am confident that the problems mentioned in this post are very rare. The only problem i have had is that i went to the Apple Store on the release date of the phone, and i was trampled, yes trampled, by people in great hurry to recieve their device. I went to the hospital with broken ribs and a concussion. Thankfully Apple paid the medical bill. Wish there was better crowd controll though. Awesome product!
I bought my iPhone4, and literally the day after that, after heavy usage that night, it exploded. It sparked a bit behind the screen, and then burst into flames. Thank god it was on the counter and not in my hand! Shame on you Apple! Considering pressing charges.

Well the rumors are true, but I am not one to tell people NOT to buy something if they really want it (unless of course I know you well), but do what you want. Just keep in mind what you are buying and be sure, as with any product, you are going to like it for the duration of its use. I personally wont buy one, if you read my above posts, but that shouldn’t deter you from getting one if you really want one. Just promise me you aren’t buying one because everyone else is and you think apple is awesome : )
Personally i think that Apple could have implemented these new features in the the second gen iPhone, the tech has been out for long enough now, HD Video recording, Multitasking, all that has been in other phones for a while now, such as Samsung I8910, which runs Symbian, a far better OS than Apples OS imo, i personally dislike Apple products, they are money grabbing, like to show off things and make them sound better than they actually are, overpriced garbage.

No I do not have an iphone 4, I should clarify that. I have a 3g which is perfectly fine for what it is. I’m not that stupid to buy something without playing with it. I believe I said that the last time. I have played with the 4g on numerous occasions, in-store and with one of my friend’s (who in this case was the idiot who didn’t wait). The phone drops calls way to much. They said get a case so I did. Now they say the case isn’t hard enough plastic. Well it drops calls even when you don’t touch the phone so he problem is the phone. I can be next to my wives I phone3 and she can talk and I get cut off. It also kicks on the speaker while holding it to your ear. Then cuts you off. Either apple doesn’t want to admit or it’s not synced to ATT. Fix it before I dump it.

I don’t actually hav a iphone 4, but i have a friend tht has one! He lets me play on it alot, one time i signed in on my itunes account and wen i tried to download an app it took like 10 minutes just for the loading time, wen i downloaded tht same app on my ipod touch, it took only 3 minutes!

He points out that he goes out of his way to negatively review every apple mobile product when It cones out. If your going to hate apple that’s fine because Bo ones gonna stop you. But do you really need to post biased reviews about their products just because you dislike the company? And by the way, posting “reasons” that you “heard about” is not how you write a review.
Bottom line, the primary purpose of this device is to function as a cellphone. I could care less about everything else at this point. If your cellphone keeps dropping calls due to the network, how you hold your phone or both, what good is it? I could care less if the IPhone came out with a new app that gave blowjobs! I still need a phone that provides good call quality, with excellent coverage when I need it. AT&T is simply the wrong network to carry a phone with this kind of issue. Even with a good antenna, AT&T couldn’t meet my requirements.
Also, back to your review writing, you mentioned in a previous comment that you do not own an iPhone 4. So what did you just post reasons that you found on the internet and hoped people hated apple enough not to care?
HTC is killing Apple products. as we saw with Apple CPUs are gone and Apple is using intel CPUs, we will see in the soon future the OS of Apple is Junk, and they will get Android or Wndows. I’m very happy with the HTC 4G, a real professional phone. No Hardware or software problems. Compare HTC 4G Evo with the iPhone 4G. you will see the result, Period.

I just today swapped out for my SIXTH iPhone 4. The last three I’ve gotten have all had 3G connection issues and yellow picture or flash problems with the camera. I really want to like the iPhone and I guess I do because I’ve given them six chances to get it right but it hasn’t happened yet. I live in long beach California with an AT&T cell tower literally one block away from me and most of the time I can’t get a 3G connection…. honestly I don’t know if it’s the iPhone or if it’s AT&T, all I know and really care at this time is I have a really expensive paperweight that comes with a 2 year contract. One thing I found out by complete accident is that when I can’t access a website and the little icon is just sitting there spinning away, if I hit the home button and make a phone call then check back on my website loading progress I have a 3g connection and my page loads!…. The whole time I’m running a phone call I have very fast 3G service and sometimes for awhile after I hang up but then it always goes back to nothing usually within 5 minutes or less…. I make a phone call then jump back on the web and I magically have 3G again!?….. works every time…. So why would I get a good 3G connection during a phone call and then spotty at best afterwords?
Rob, try it with Sprint 4G, they pay the cancelation fee for you to switch with them, or T-Mobile and see what’s gonna happen with this phone

The iphone 4 is just a crappy piece of technology. They spend so much time marketing the thing and “thinking differently” that they forgot to test it’s most basic function? I talked about it on ilogicbomb and mentioned the foxconn suicides. I think Apple is actually testing just how crappy a product they can make and still have people buy it.

This iphone4 is pathetic! No reception ! No Internet! I’m going to return it and downgrade to my old 3G .. And everyone should do that because apple will never fix the problem if all the apple idiots stick with a faulty phone jtat cause it’s a ” great ” phone. F that. Get rid of it.
Unfortunately I agree, lots of people are keeping their iPhone 4s and just dealing with the problems and running Edge network. Apple will never take a step towards realizing the problem much less fixing it if everyone just deals with their inferior product. Given, it seems not everyone is having problems but there are plenty that are. I’ve spent countless hours on my phone with AT&T and apple support and their senior tech team doing the restores, re-sets, de-register, re-register, new micro sim, latest software update etc…and still I can’t keep a consistent 3G data connection…. 5-10 minutes of 3G at a time sporadically throughout the day just isn’t cutting it and I’m on my 7th iPhone 4 now! The genius at apple told me that this is normal and to be expected with any new technology and that all the iPhone 4s connect to the Internet differently, that’s why my friend with an iPhone 4 can stand right beside me and get perfect, un-interrupted 3G service and I can’t even connect…. and I’m supposed to accept this as normal and be happy about my purchase? I asked him if this was actually his serious response to my dilemma….apparently it was…. he told me a swap out wouldn’t change anything and I said that it definitely couldn’t hurt anything!….. So he swapped it out, and this is iPhone #7…. he was partially right, I still have very spotty inconsistent 3G, but at least I now have a camera that doesn’t take yellow pictures…. which the apple genius told me that all the iPhone 4 cameras take yellow pictures…. shows how much they really know… not much… scary!
I’m not seeing a fix for this problem anytime soon unfortunately.

Tryng to figure out what to do. It sucks that I fo not have a reliable phone that will make my life easier. Instead I have a POS that might work as a paper weight …. I am so upset about this . I actually cried twice over it. Unbelievable! I know that people wouldn’t like to go through this if they were the ones with the janky iphone4 … Ok…. 7 times????? Hey Jes! You are definitely not the only one! It seems this inconsistent 3G connectivity problem is affecting people everywhere…. it really sucks and the worst part is that no one at Apple or AT&T seems to know anything at all about it! Everytime I call them we go through the same old routine…. They ask me if I have restored my iPhone… if I have replaced my micro sim card…. same ol same ol …. it’s too bad really because other than the lack of 3G I really like the phone!
And yes, 7 times I’ve swapped! I’ve heard some pretty lame excuses from some of the Apple people…. just yesterday I was on the phone with apple and the guy actually told me that I could be the reason for not getting 3G connection!…. he said it could be my aura!!!…. incredible!… I didn’t even know what to say to this lame ass excuse!!…. I mean at this point with responses like that it’s pretty clear to me that they have absolutely NO CLUE as to what’s happening!!…. That’s why I think a fix might not happen anytime soon. I know it doesn’t make it any better for you but just know that you are definitely NOT the only person experiencing this…. there is one little thing I’ve discovered quite by accident though and that is when you lose your 3G connection, if you click off of the webpage your trying to download and make a phone call ( I call AT&T and just let it go through their lengthy recording) and then go back to the web page, you’ll find that you will get and establish a 3G connection as long as the phone call lasts….. kinda weird but there is definitely a connection there….. I consistently have a 3G connection and can access any web pages while on a phone call….. I’m wondering if this works for everyone or if it’s just me?
I really want to keep my iPhone 4 but I also really want it to do what it’s supposed to do when it’s supposed to do it! I’m gonna try again with Apple and AT&T today and if nothing gets resolved then yeah, I think I’ll have to go back and see if they’ll give me a 3GS until all the bugs can be worked out of the 4.

I libe in Hollywood… I wonder if my connection is crappy because everyone in this huge obnoxious city had to keep up with the jones’s and almost every person I meet or talk to had an iPhone. That’s actually what one of the reps at apple told me. And trust me i have heard the excuses from these apple people… And it makes me feel like they think we aré idiots!!!! And it’s almost like it’s a weird cult or something !!! Can’t believe they would bring up your aura!! Ha! It does suck cuz I do like the phone … Its like buying shiny new shoes!!!! Hey Jes, I live right here in California with you…. I live in long beach and I was just in North Hollywood and Studio city this weekend and I had a pretty crappy connection there as well, if any connection at all….. I just got off the phone with an Apple senior tech and he said basically it sounds like a service issue, especially since I get a great 3G connection that i can surf the net with while on a phone call. He told me to get on at&t’s case about this issue….. unfortunately for us AT&T seems to know less about the issue than Apple…..I’ve also heard just what you did about so many people on the network now using iPhones that it’s getting congested….. I’ve heard that AT&T is currently trying to upgrade their system to handle the volume and that until they do this is what we’re left with….but some people don’t have this issue!?!?…. I don’t get it?….. I’m definitely gonna try to get AT&T to give me some kind of credit on my account since in the last two weeks I’ve probably had like 1hour total 3G use….. lol, good analogy with the shoes, and yeah their not comfortable at all!…. I know I should just take it back and get my 3GS again but everytime I’ve just about convinced myself to take it back I think that maybe tomorrow everything will get resolved and this will no longer be an issue….. hasn’t happened so far……have you tried making a phone call and then accessing the Internet to see if that works for you? It works for me consistently and the guy at apple said that’s a great work around….. I told him there’s no way I’m going to be happy thinking that every time I want to surf the net I need to first be on a phone call so that I have consistent 3G!…..some of these tech “experts” are unbelievable with their used car salesman type tactics!…. Hey Jessica…. as you can see by how fast I am able to respond, I don’t have a lot going on today!…lol…. So the phone call thing works…sort of, for you…. interesting… once I actually solve the iPhone 4 issues I’m gonna change careers and apply to be a genius at Apple! My phone actually shows the same…. full five bars with 3G but no connection… on my sixth swap out I had downloaded the 4.0.1 update but that didn’t do anything to fix the issues I’m having…. Funny that you mention the EVO 4g because that’s what I’ve been reading about since yesterday and if I do take my phone back that’s exactly what I’m going for!
After just talking to yet another Apple tech, he was pretty convinced that it has to be a service issue, especially after I told him about the phone call – 3G thing ,so……….. I’m gonna suck it up and AGAIN call AT&T and see what they can come up with…. The apple tech told me that the issue won’t go anywhere until I demand to talk to a tier 2 AT&T tech and not just their call support and first level advisors, so I’ll inform you on how that goes… I’m not expecting much!…. I’m with you, I wish the problem was just a few dropped calls like a lot of people, I could definitely deal with that much better but the main reason I got the iPhone 4 was for the 3G data…. without that it doesn’t mean much to me. I’ve tried the airplane mode toggle thing, that worked on my 6th iPhone but not on this one….. what does work sometimes is re-setting the network settings…. then I’ll have 3G anywhere from a couple of minutes to 5-10 minutes…. it gets old really quick doing that though.

Hey Jes!…. How goes it today?…. I tried finding your blog but had no luck…. I followed a link but it just took me to a web page to start my own blog…. Actually I found out yesterday that AT&T has admitted there is a software bug in certain areas of the country that’s been causing slow upload speeds and making the iPhone 4 OS very slow and supposedly they are in the process of fixing the issue and updating or replacing faulty equipment in the affected areas… the bad news is it’s supposed to take place over the next three weeks so 3G will probably remain non-existent until then….. HOPEFULLY this is what the problem is…. The 29 th of this month is the last day that I can take my iPhone back to AT&T and get my money back and the issues won’t be fixed for another three weeks or so, so what to do?….. keep the iPhone 4 and hope this is the fix we’re looking for or take it back?….. I think I’m gonna take it back and have them ship me a new iPhone 4, but that will take 7-10 business days to arrive at my house, which won’t really matter much seeing as how I don’t really get much Internet usage as is!….. I can’t believe Apple had the balls to tell you to buy a cell tower??!!…. WTF??!!…. as if buying the iPhone and the AT&T contract for another 2 years isn’t enough??….. They can’t be serious!?….. I wonder if the genius has a cell tower in his house?…. Unbelievable!!….. This is getting super stupid… so you buy a cell tower for your house and you get great 3G at your house…. i dropped the phone once and the screen shattered and it only feel from me standing up from my lowered honda civic so it had a 2 foot fall and back and front shattered and apple wont do anything about it but say its as strong as a windshield. i am very unhappy with this phone.

The new iPhone 4 isn’t really that big of a difference than the original iPhone. My iPhone 3G has faster Internet and full bars than my iPhone 4. The maximum bars for AT&T Is 5. I get 5 everytime on my iPhone 3G. I get 4 bars on my iPhone 4. The only thing that’s cool bout it is video recording and FaceTime chat. Otherwise I’d wait till apple comes out with a better phone.
My iPhone 4 is now working perfectly. The no 3G problem turned out to be a problem with AT&T and not the iPhone itself. I kept on AT&T for awhile about the 3G and got a text message from them about a week ago saying my issue had been resolved and I haven’t had an issue since.
Rob! That’s cool! Finally! Weird thing… My iPhone 4 started working a week go as well!! The no 3G problem is pretty much gone. After I put the bumper on it…. Crazy but I am in a better mood now…. !! I have an iphone and have had it now for 2 years and i have to say the iphones do suck i have had to jailbreak it just to do what i want but I have to thank apple for starting a phone revolution so many new brand phones out there with all the same content as the iphone and more no restrictions i cant wait to get my new phone when I decide what I want but it is not gona be a new iphone coz we shouldn’t have to jailbreak it to do what we should be able to do (Once again thank u apple for the iphone but u really do suck u money hungry wankers)

You are on a call and in one conversation your face mutes the call, puts you on speaker, self dials for you and your caller to hear, or ends the call. What is the deal with that!?!?! My 3G never did that. It’s very annoying.
Um Yeah, I was promised Flash player would be integrated in the web browser but it’s still not available.
I can’t play online games or watch videos, or even look at fast food menus. This device is repetitive in the design.
And they just up and took out some features because some people had a hard time figuring stuff out.

The iPhone 4 sucks because of the stoopid marking gimmicks. I have a 2nd Gen. iphone and I was in the mood to upgrade it.
Two weeks later (and this is August, two months after it was released in June) every store I go to get one says their 1) out of stock 2) only get 10 to 15 in at a time 3) will not hold one for me as it’s “first come, first served.”
Well it really makes me feel they are not serious about distribution (or are they trying the Nintendo thing?)
This is a phone… my needs for a phone are more immediate than for a game system. I’m so frustrated I’m going to 1) break my contract since I never liked ATT in the first place and 2) pick up a new HTC since it does everything I want.
I wouldn’t say the iphone 4 sucks, it has its fair share of problems, but still one of the best devices.. the androids are great, but you don’t get the apps/games you do on the iphone, plus its all free if you jailbreak.. no flash support is a bummer.. and the price for it is crazy..
I say the iPhone sucks because, look at how it’s built and how it’s modeled. Why would somebody make it square when all the other ones were slim and curved? The iPhone 3GS is “godly” my friends say, compared to the iPhone 4. The curves on the old iPhone’s allow the user to pull it out quickly and without trouble.
I don’t know why everyone is complaining.
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Simple as that. If you have tried it, like it, and have the money, then get it. It’s not a bad of a product as people make it out to be. It’s actually a really good phone.
And about the reception issues, like Jobs said. A non-issue. Happens with my old nokia. You don’t see me complaining. Either use some clear tape, or stop holding your phone like you are trying to f**king strange it!!!
I agree with DickKnowsBest, this has just turned into an iPhone 4 hate site…. nobody is forcing anyone to buy the iphone 4….if you don’t like it don’t buy it… there are some pretty stupid comments above as to “why the iPhone 4 sucks”. As it turns out most of the problems I’ve experienced and am experiencing with my iPhone 4 are AT&T related and that’s a whole separate issue.
It’s not an iPhone hate thing.. It’s the fact that I get 3G on my 3G and I do not on my iPhone 4 …. I have still to keep a call going longer than one minute…. This dropping call thing is new to me … I called ATT and they said the coverage in my area is amazing. And I believe so because the 3G works great. They transferred me to apple and do u want to know what they told me ??? ” to sell my iPhone 4 on eBay and use the money to purchase another phone…” WOW!
Mind you , I am on my 4th iPhone 4 they keep wanting to return it hoping that it will work but the truth is that there is an antenna problem and us iPhone 4 users have to deal with it until our contract gives out. I pre ordered this phone ” my fault ” and I did not know it was going to have these issues. I triesd to get my money back and it’s just not happening…. Therefore, I am not talking crap about apple It just makes me sad that I can’t talk to my family and friends on the phone… And I also can’t get the info I need because 3G is so sketchy. I want another phone because this iPhone 4 consumes me. I run my entire life on this phone. Family, friends , and business. It’s def falling apart a lil bit and it makes me angry.
It certainly looks like a hate thing to me with some of the stupid comments from above that look like they were written by a 1st grader. Given, I think MOST people have legitimate concerns and issues that revolve around a much less than perfect product that doesn’t seem to have been put through all it’s paces in the testing procedures, but let’s face it, AT&T is a lot of what is going on with reception issues. Your iPhone 4 drops calls?… type in iPhone dropped calls on google and you will see that it’s not a problem isolated to the iPhone 4, EVERY iPhone has had this problem….don’t like it then don’t buy iPhones…problem solved….my issues with the iPhone 4 are not dropped calls, it’s no 3G, and that has turned out to be an AT&T problem….they fixed the problem once and the fix lasted for ten days and now its back again…. just got off the phone with at&t and they are working on the issue AGAIN…. I repeat this is not the iPhone 4 this is AT&T ….. Again I’m not defending the iPhone 4 and it’s imperfections but at least people should know the whole story before they start tossing the blame to one side or the other….. If you live your life off of your phone so much maybe you should use the time spent complaining about and exchanging iPhones and do what it takes to get another phone with another provider… like the saying goes, if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always gotten…. if you want a different result ( properly functioning phone) then do something different ( go back to your old 3G since it works perfectly or get another phone and another carrier)… the point is you can complain, bitch, piss and moan all day about your iPhone 4 and post in all these nifty little forums and get people to share your voice and join in complaints and pat each other on the backs and form great alliances but your not doing anything about the problem….you think apple doesn’t know about the issues with their phone?… do you think that an apple CEO is going to be reading forums on the Internet and come across your post and have a HOLY SHIT moment when he realizes that ” hey, we REALLY need to fix this phone NOW!!”?…. I dropped my Iphone 4 from my lap at sitting position so about 3.5 feet. The screen shattered and it costs $200 to repair. I also had a case that offered limited protection on my phone at the time as well. Now I realize dropping your phone is never a good idea and legitimately its my fault but seriously one drop from 3.5 feet. WTF
I have had the iPhone 4 for about a month now and I would have to say it’s not anything that i thought it would be!!! It is a good phone to play with but every time I place a call it drops or my cheek hits the end button or mute button or FaceTime!! The app market sucks and not being able to customize is such a bummer!! I miss my mytouch!!!!!!

My Iphone drops calls when i hold to my cheek sometime. Also, without the Itunes no music. And sometimes the call just suddenly end. I want shiny phone to be the star in my class, now the people only laugh when talk about my phone. Other one have the android, it much small and cheap.
