376 CommentsSpirit has to be the easiest and quickest jailbreak ever. JailbreakMe was fast, but Spirit takes it to a whole new level. I’m not really sure a Spirit tutorial or guide is necessary because it is so simple…
Before thinking about jailbreaking your iDevice with Spirit, there are a few requirements that you need to know about. Please head over to this post I wrote earlier to read the “fine prints” and make sure you know exactly what you’re doing.
I wrote this guide by jailbreaking my iPad using Spirit but the steps are exactly identical for the iPod Touch and iPhone. Steps are also identical whether you’re on a Mac or PC.
Note that Spirit is a jailbreak for every device. It will NOT unlock your iPhone.
How to jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad with Spirit
Step 1: Download Spirit from our download page.
Step 2: Make sure you have at least version 9 of iTunes.
Step 3: Back up your iPhone, iTouch or iPad in iTunes, just in case something goes wrong.
Step 4: Launch Spirit.
Step 5: Click “Jailbreak”.
Step 6: Wait just a few seconds until you see this image:
Step 7: Your iPhone will reboot and you should have the Cydia icon on your springboard.
Congrats, you just jailbroke your iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad using Spirit.
Errors & Troubleshooting
Windows Vista or Windows 7 users may get the error c0000005.
To avoid this error, you have to run Spirit.exe in compatibility mode. To do so:
- Right click on Spirit.exe and select Properties
- Select the compatibility tab
- Check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for” box and select Windows 98 / Windows ME
It really is that easy! The only thing I’d add is that if you get an error like C000000005 then change the file compatibility in ‘properties’ to Windows 98. And should work fine.

One word of warning….jailbreaking with Spirit appears to wipe your camera roll photos. So back them up first.

I do have the iPhone 3Gs with firmware 3.1.2 and it is unlocked and jailbroken with blackra1n. Now, since Spirit doesn’t unlock what do I have to do to unlock after running Spirit? Or is the unlock still there after running Spirit?

For those of you who are having the C0000035a problem, i had this problem earlier on and i just managed to find a fix!.. (or i seemed to get it working through my iphone..). I was getting a Lbdaey32.dll error, and to fix it what i did was i went to the directory this dll was located.. and all i did was cut and paste it to my desktop… (so just remove it from the folder..) and i then ran spirit and it seemed to work! then i put the dll back in the folder and that basically solved my problem i was really desperate for a jb so basically tried everything and anything… (i also ran this through windows98/me AFTER removing the dll, ive tried using every single possible combination BEFORE moving the dll with the compatibilities and nothing seemed to work..) but w.e, i got mine working!! woo try it out!

kc: I think you’ll have to get hold of an official iPhone carrier sim to activate. Spirit does not activate.
Robin: Spirit just jailbreaks it does not unlock your phone for other sims. As far as I know, the latest 3GS baseband is unlockable – at the moment.

For everyone who says that they can’t get the cydia icon on their dashboard, I had the same problem until I did this:
1) Restore your idevice to factory settings.
2) When that’s finished run spirit.
3) Restore all you contacts, music etc. through itunes.
This works for me on my iPhone 3Gs 3.1.3 5.12.01 Firmware.

I had the fallowing problem on Windows Vista.
Spirit crashed with the error:

The final error code displayed by Spirit was
“error code: c0000138″
I solved it and executed successfully the JB after I copied the file c:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\libeay32.dll to c:\Windows\System32\
Some poeple here seem to share my predicament. The jailbreak requires an activated device. How do we activate the phone without an official sim?
Spirit jailbreak is just a jailbreak it is not a unlock for orther carriers. If you got iPhone on 3.1.2 and you need carrier unlock don’t update to 3.1.3 no unlock for that and I dout there will be. Use spirit for unteatherd jailbreak only. If you got iPhone on 3.1.3 and you don’t need unlock for other carrier spirit just means you can do a unteatherd jailbreak , as for me it have so far unteatherd a 3Gs a iPod touch 2G both are MC model and both are working fine. I only hope that geohot or dev team or comex can have a unteatherd jailbreak for 4.0. In the mean time I’ll be turn my iPhone off and on with no computer. So thank you COMEX for this you are the new GOD for the iPhone
If I can remember, to activate iPhone run redsnow and do what it says( but I think it will only work on 3.1.2. ) and just boot for teatherd. Once iPhone boots up and iTunes says your iPhone is activated you can run spirit to jailbreak it, this won’t work to unlock to use other carrier on 3.1.3 there is no unlock for that. Once jailbrooken fined black snow for unlock only on 3.1.2
I put find black snow, start up cydia and find black snow on cydia for carrier unlock, only 3.1.2. There is no unlock for 3.1.3

First of thanks for the JB instructions man. I was dying to get the untethered version for my wife.
@Richard: I had a similar issue with my macbook pro where it kept on going and finally the phone didn’t boot after the initial screen. The way I fixed it is restore to factory again and then restore to my backup. If Spirit doesn’t exit upon hitting the Quit button after Jailbreak is over, then you have to repeat the steps. On my second attempt it quited, I also unplugged my cable on rebooting.
@Iain: You are right that you’ll lose your photos from Roll album. The best way is to fix this is to restore from backup after performing jailbreak. This brings back the photos and you still have the jailbreak.

If you need to unlock because you don’t have official carrier and you are on 3.1.3. There is no unlock. And I dout there will be untill 4.0 there is only a unlock for 3.1.2 because baseband had a update on 3.1.3

To all of those people who were saying that Cydia was not coming up:
The same thing happened to me, I restored to factory settings and it still did not work.
However, I tried jailbreaking on my computer with windows xp instead of windows 7 and it worked.
Worked like a charm. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS or in other words, RTFM and it worked fine: iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 (not previously jailbroken) on Windows Vista.

The file “libeay32.dll” was replaced at Windows/system32.

yeah i used this on windows 7 and i didnt get cydia on my springboard, but i tried it on my friends computer on a windows vista and it worked perfectly. Cydia showed up on my springboard…great job to the creators..im really happy..
I have an iphone 3g that is not currently with any carrier. I cannot use cydia even with my wifi network. wtf. is it because i dont have a carrier? That’s total bullshit then. Hi guys, good news, yesterday Comex had just fixed the photo deletion bug and error code c0000005. Do download the new version and give it a try.
I restored the factory settings on I phone 3gs firmwire 5.12.01 and then tried spirit. Though it worked and this time I have got cydia icon on my dashboard as well. But what to do next? cause still it says Sim Invalid(if I put any other carrier sim rather than than the original one). any body have any idea please?
@ Alien you need to unlock carrier . You will find that in cydia ( in sources add cydia.xsellize.com) and you will find blacksnow. This will only work if you have not updated at all at any point to 3.1.3
there was a baseband update for 3.1.3 and there is no unlock for that. ( I’ll will try and help you as much as I can but it looks like there is a big time diffrance between us…. 9.45 a.m when I wrote this

@Robin the only sim that will work in your iPhone is the original one there is no unlock for that basaband ( jailbreak and unlock are not the same thing ) jailbreak is so you can run things that Apple won’t allow, unlock is to use other carrier ( not original sim )

Currently I am on 3.1.2 with newbootrom.Yesterday i restored my iphone to 3.1.2 with factory settings and then i ran the spirite and it says jailbreak succeeded and restarted with color splash screen and wheel was going for more than 30 min without doing anything so i rebooted by holding home+sleep button.
Kindly suggest me what to do.

@Hknmurthy spirit works on 3.1.2. I was just like you I wonted unteatherd aswell. You ned to resore back to 3.1.2 then run redsnow and just boot for thetherd and then let iTunes activate your iPhone then run spirit.

( But I bet the dev team and geohot have one ) because if one comes out Apple will block it for 4.0 and then another exploit has to be found to unlock carrier settings. Just to cheak your baseband is at 5.11.7 if so try this, in cydia add – cydia.imodzone.net – look for blacksnow there. I’ve just been there to see for my self and it say for 3.1.2

i tried this on my 3G on current firmware and at first it worked, then got into cydia and it said something about organizing…something. then it started to reboot and now I’m stuck on the apple logo with a loading circle…..any idea how to get past this?

Tried that and what happens is it starts to boot like normal, apple logo comes up, then after several seconds a white loading ring appears but just gets stuck again

Hold down on button and home button count to 10 seconds let go of on bottom keep holding home button count to 10 again ( keep iPhone connected to computer) iTunes will say ( iPhone is in recovery mode ) do restore . one thing do you need a unlock ? If not iPhone will be put on 3.1.3 . If you do I’ll will help you with that as well ! But do not do what I’ve said if you need unlock there is no unlock for 3.1.3

On WIndows 7 x64, I had to copy the libeay32.dll to C:\windows\syswow64, NOT c:\windows\system32. Spirit then ran successfully!

Also, itunes DOES recognize the phone so is there a way to backup the phone right now? I haven’t in about a week. I know I should have done so before jailbreaking again. I always do buuuuuut was impatient this time around.
@Burge: I am already using vodafone. I mean i can use only vodafone…even after jailbreaking if i try putting some other sim like t mobile/orange it says invalid sim….and vodafone customer care said they wont unlock it until contract period ends!
I don’t think so, I’ve never had to try and back up after messing up my iPhone .I’ve alwaysl backup then do jailbreaking. I think you have just learn’t the hard way! sorry, Looks like you lost eveything. All that is left is to do restore and start again

If you have ever backed up your contacts should be where you saved them .I.e.yahoo. It might not be all your contacts it depends when you last backed up. But you should have most of them saved

Hi Guys, i red across all the posts and tried a lot of things
First i restored my Phone to 3.2.1 : i had my shsh save on cydia. and that worked like charm . and the good thing i have at&t Original SIM which made me able to activate . i used Spirit and liek charm it said it jail braked my phone and cydia appeared on Iphone.
Now the Problem. I currently live in Middle East : Jordan so i need to unlock . which should be easy with blacksnow i did install the source mentioned above and had black snow for 3.2.1 run it and worked perfectly .
, i checked all the Firmware stuff and its exactly the right thing 3.1.2 (7d11) modem 05.11.07 which is the same as i had before with Blakra!n . the only thing i noticed is different is the Carrier version it says at&t 5.6 ; which before it was carrier 5.0
but the problem is i don’t get network
the 3.1.2 IPSW i have i downloaded online and its good but even with full restore the Currier version in it is at&t 5.5 which is doing the same thing . am not sure if it is because of that i don’t get network on my current sim. i even tried another sim car that i have from UAE and its the same problem . it show no service or invalid sim
when i put at&t sim it keep giving me searching for network but because i dont have a service with at&t it dose not get a network however if i do network search while i have at&t sim it shows all the available networks but for sure it wont go in it cuz i don’t have service from At&t
the black snow i had is what mentioned above rc2 and it dose not give any error when it works
so what do you think is the problem ? is it the Currier thing ? how can i fix that ? or how i can get it back to carrier 5.0 instead ?

i tried download this file and noticed teh version is 0.9.4, older than the current version i had in the system. This did not work out.

i have an iphone 3.1.3 thats on 02, iv managed to jailbreak it using spirit but at the top it still says no service, and a box on my screen saying waiting for activation, thats been like it for a while now, is there any way around this?

I’ve gone through evey thing I can think of and all I keep coming back with is that you are going to need offical sim ( sorry ) but to have untertherd it’s worth getting pay as you go sim, For your iPhone ( just to restore ) these are normaly free

Hi so i jailbroke my 3GS on 3.1.3 with spirit and everything was working fine then later when i tried to use my phone i noticed it was stuck on the apple boot logo. I have tried to restore my phone and i keep getting an error. Does anybody else have the same problem?
I tried to save my SHSH blobs and it won’t save…i used both fwumbrella and the autoSHSH, and both would not let me save my SHSH blobs….so i decided to just go ahead and JB my itouch 3rd gen. mc model 3.1.3 firmware. When i open Spirit, it does not detect my itouch…i also tried the compatibility mode for 95 and 98…both w/ no luck. Can anyone help? I know that my there’s no problem w/ my itouch or the cablelink, cuz when I open itunes, it does detect my itouch…but Spirit does not. =( Please HELP!!!

Ok so I go from 3.0 jailbreak to 3.1.3 that i d/l from the d/l page. I backed up then did the restore procedure. Ran spirit. It did its thing. Rebooted. Ran Cydia. It did its thing. I then opened Itunes which is the latest. 9.1.1.12. The issue is when I try to sync my previous apps that I had under the old jailbreak I get an error. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Start again, restore your iPhone and try spirit again
This worked fine to jailbreak a 3GS 16GB over the stock 3.1.3. My iPhone was stuck in a reboot loop on 3.1.2 jb after running fine for a while so I had to restore to 3.1.3. Spirit worked as well as any *ra1n jailbreak.

Hey ljupco I had the same problem. Try to restore to factory settings and if that doesn’t work your pretty much screwed. Unless! You’re still under warranty I was and I took in to an apple store and since they couldn’t get it to restore they gave me a new one

This is a jailbreak dream.
Be warned people as I did the old school Jailbreak many months ago which worked but I downloaded some Cydia updates which crashed my springboard. I had to system re store and then I downloaded 112 apps. I then updated cydia a year later (also some updates in the interim and had a fatal crash whch again meant a system restore but I lost all apps and photos and data. All I am saying is backup your I Phone and dont clog it up with rubbish apps and downloads. Its a nightmare when things go wrong.

I installed it and my phone started freezing. Went to reset the phone and it froze on the apple logo screen. Had to do a full restore, which I am doing right now. Hopefully that fixes my problem and gets rid of this program. Stay away from this program.
I jailbroke my iphone 3gs ver 3.1.3 successfully, however when I get a text message – the phone freezes up and I have to reboot holding the power & home key down. Very strange. Anyone else see this happen? Could it be some of the SMS ring tone themes I downloaded or is this a glitch with Spirit?

back up iPhone
Restore iPhone back to 3.1.2 in iTunes
run spirit
back in iTunes set iPhone up as new iphone
load cydia and do updates. Cydia will close when done.
Load cydia again go to manage . Sources and and add – cydia.imodzone.net – now find black snow for 3.1.2 and install.
iPhone is now done jailbroke untertherd and unlocked.
Only do this if you know that you have your SHSH on cydia and you know what you are doing.
A new iPhone that you got on 3.1.3 can not do this, all that can be done is untearthed jailbreak.
Just back up and then run spirit and then set up as new iPhone in iTunes.

Done everything fine 4 days ago and was working like a dream………. But…….. Tonight I cannot make calls as I have no signal, my carrier logo is there (o2-uk) but no signal, also the phone has no sound now. ? Any ideas guys
There is a new fix for spirit and blackra1n it’s called ifixer ,go to FSMdotcom more info there
@Paul try reset network in settings. But I have never tryed this on jailbroke spirit iPhone so don’t know what will happen . You might need to do a restore anyway
All of u that have c0000138 problem with libeay32.dll install http://www.slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html , put DLL in windows. Work for me.

if u you carnt you have a nice looking bar of soap.
Is the iPhone on the carrier you are going to use ? If not you need to get the sim that the ihone uses , but you can not unlock it to use other carrier

i will not use it with the same service provider as i got the phone from usa and i am in India now.. and there is no at&t here

Sorry but with out origanal sim you can not activate that iPhone.

I wasn’t going to put this, but there is one way.
Give AT&T a call and see if they will unlock it from there network, there is one problem with this it could cost , and I mean alot.
There was a post in this blog on May 6 read more info there.
@ Varun I’ve just been to that website iphoneundo.com. Don’t use them because all jailbreakes are freeware. There us no unlock for 3.1.3. Sites like them use the same jailbreak sortware as what you get from geohot , devteam and now comex ,and all that do is reskin so it looks like they done it. That are making money on other peoples work.

Sorry but no . Just to activate you need the sim for your iPhone in your case AT&T sim. And if the iPhone is on 3.1.3 firmware there is no unlock for that yet. I don’t think there will be unlock for 3.1.3.

Did you up grade yor firmware to 3.1.3 ? If so your phone is now locked to the carrier it was on and there is no unlock for 3.1.3 .
I don’t think that there will be a unlock for 3.1.3. You will have to wait till 4.0 and there might be a unlock for that.

i’m sure this is a dumb question but i have only started to read about iphone hacking as of 8am this morning;
since its possible to backup ones ECID files, could the same file be re-used with other iphones as well, or are these uniquely generated and perpahs even encrypted for each phone? If at all possible, has anyone tried looking into the idea of maybe generating these files so they could be used with 3.1.2 on any iphone?

a friend of mine has won the iphone 3gs /w 3.1.3 in some raffle, not sure how they got a hold of a phone with out needing to sign a contract with at&t in US but they did it
the phone was already at 3.1.3 version so from what i gathered so far is this,
- the phone cant be jail broken unless its activated with the original carrier ( at&t ), but there is a possibility to get one of those pay as you go phones that dont require a contract to activate the phone, my question is would simply borrowing someones sim card that is already with at&t and has an iphone work also or would it not?
- the owner of the phone does not want to change carriers, currently with tmobile, it sounds like she is out of luck as there is no sim unlock for version 3.1.3 and sounds like there never will be, question i have is if the phone was never activated with any carrier, would it be possible to downgrade to firmware 3.1.2 or is that also out of the question regardless if phone has or has not been yet activated with any carrier?
so essentially my friend has a brand new iphone 3gs ( for free at least ) but becuase she doesnt want to switch to at&t carrier ( which really sucks donkey balls imo ) and not have the ability to unlock the phone to use with another carrier, she really has nothing more then a expansive version of a itouch, is there any hope to get this phone ever unlocked and have it used with different carrier or should she simply just try to get rid of, which now days not many people would even want a 3.1.3 unless they are with at&t but they can get teh phone much cheaper with a contract….

P.s there will more than likeley be a unlock for 4.0 ( you never know a unlock might come out for 3.1.3 . ) keep the iPhone it will work someday ( July / august )

i have tried several times and jailbreak ask to connect phone, phone connected, itunes opened but still jailbrerak asking to connect phone. I also tried by disabling the open itunes in the setting when connecting phone but this did not seem to work either. Please tell me what i am doing wrong

Hi guys n girls, i am currently running a iphone 3GS on uk 02, on its orginial firmware 3.0 that was jailbroken. I have never upgraded the firmware because of issues with the firmwares and jailbreaking (if is not broken don’t try to fix it!!)
i can see that from posts that if i upgrade to 3.1.3 unlocking is a no go(don’t need to), but is that the only problem? is there anything i should do before upgrading the firmware or do i even need to? mine is running fine, its more am i missing out on any tweaks from the new firmware.

only if you jailbroke you iPhone on 3.1.2 and saved your SHSH’s on cydia serve. But you can not unlock you iPhone because of new baseband on 3.1.3.
If you got you phone on 3.1.3 then not a chance in hell

Well all I can say is thank you and well done to the Spirit Team, excelllent jailbreak….. worked perfectly on 3.1.3 latest botrom. I was actually shocked how easy it was as I tried so many other apps that were suppose to work. This definitely deserves a donation.

I jailbroke my iPhone the first week Spirit came out and have no problems with my phone. Was working great up until about a week ago when in iTunes my apps went gray. Now if I buy or download an app through my computer I can’t upload it onto my phone :-/

Tried Spirit for Mac on PowerPC (G4), and it stayed in “jailbreaking …” for half hour. I quit, and tried a few more times, same thing. Apparently, iPhone still worked fine despite my attempts.
Then, built Linux version of Spirit, and worked SUPER FAST! (Like they were saying in description above). Please follow standard new package build directions for Linux (i.e., if you are a Linux newbie, don’t bother trying unless you’re in for a long haul learning process). For me, it took 10 minutes of downloading the required packages to my distfiles dir, copying existing gentoo ebuilds to the overlay for new versions, putting in the appropriate /etc/paludis/package.unmask and keywords, making digests, taking “-m32″ out of the Makefile (I have “amd64″ intel type), and installing. When no iphone was connected, it segfaulted. When the iphone was connected, very quickly it gave this success output:

Spirit only works on fireware 3.1.2 or 3.1.3
Have you ever use iTunes with your iPhone ?
update your iPhone with iTunes, then run spirit .
If you need to unlock your iPhone to usevother carrier you need to be on fireware 3.1.2.
If you use carrier that your iPhone is on update to 3.1.3.
I’ve just done my 9th iPhone and I’ve not had one problem

you Fu$ked up sorry because you up graded to 3.1.3 you put new baseband on your iPhone. The baseband does not downgrade when you go back to 3.1.2, there us no unlock for that baseband

sorry but I’ve not used spirit with a mac ! All I can say is try google ( spirit won’t down load on mac ) I’ve read some where about this. I’ll try and find out for you. Please keep me updated if you manage it.

as for the source you are trying to put in that is a instalous source you will find instalous in xsellize. That is used for down loading cracked apps.
You do have other sources that are in cydia all ready. Go to manage . Sources . And press a sources i.e. Bigboss
you will a search button at bottom of cydia type in. pwn center. Add that source, thay are all the ones I use. there are more but I don’t use them.
As for you error, in podulo source there is. cyfix gui. This is ment to get rid of any source that don’t work. the other way of it is to reset your iPhone with iTunes and rejailbreak it and start again

That TSS will get signed by the cydia sever don’t worry it just means that you can downgrade your iPhone if you update by mistake.
Best thing to do is try google.
There is alot that you need to learn about your 3Gs and how to downgrade the firmware if you need to.
Just remember when 4.0 comes out from apple is that you don’t upgrade untill jailbreak software can jailbreake it.
There will be more than lightly be a post on This blog site on when it it ok
again try google about how to downgrade and what is TSS / SHSH

I know it sounds wierd but try moving spirit.exe to your desktop (mine was in c:\download and not working)
Moved it and i worked first time. Another person got it working by running in compatability mode ‘windows 95′

Hi, I don’t know if anyone has asked this or not but I’m having a problem. I have an iPhone 3gs 3.1.3 and I ran Spirit JB and it was working just fine until it restarted the phone and brought it to the Spirit JB splash loading screen and it just had the spinning wheel for a while and nothing happened, I restored the phone and tried it again and the same thing happened, is there anything that I’m doing wrong? I got mine to work. Basically I just retried and it worked, back up all your files first, then go and do a clean restore on your iPhone, don’t restore from backup just yet. Once you get to the homescreen go ahead and run Spirit Jailbreak, and if it works, it’ll do it under 20 seconds, if it doesn’t work the first time, just keep trying and soon enough it’ll work, for me it took 3 tries. After it jailbreaks, you can go ahead and restore from backup. Hope that helps.

So ran spirit several days ago and worked like a charm. Just started really enjoying the whole jailbroke. Running a couple new apps, sinful, mywi ect. Yesterday afternoon iphone went to no sim. Rebooted and back to normal. This morn was talking and all of the sudden dropped call. And no sim message was up. Rebooted was fine for about 30 seconds and then boom no sim. Every reboot no sim.
What is shsh do you need it. how can I get it help

Used Jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1.3 with Spirit and after a week Wifi stopped to work (its not grayed – seems to be on, but does not see any networks).
Settings>>General>>Reset>>Reset Network Settings does not work
After few (like 5 or 6) reboots wifi worked a while, but now im not able to make it work again

that happened to me just before with the ipad.
i decided to hold onto the menu button and the power button for around 10 secs to reset itself. i then turned it on again via the power button and voila, all perfect now.
the device is now jailbroken, and no issues.
for some reason, the screen/gear thing will just keep staying there until i did that. i suggest doing what i did to get it working

Hi. I jailbroke my ipod with Spirit. I have the icon of Cydia. But when I install apps to my ipod I keep on getting the error message (0xE8008001). How do I resolve this?
Can someone post how to add cracked ipa’s to the new itunes 9.2.0.61 I’m trying to add another app to my iphone which is jail broken thru spirit. but the new itunes won’t let me add them like the last itunes did. Do i have to go back and try to downgrade Itunes to 9.1
I also got the c0000138 annoying problem and couldn’t get rid of it by simply copying libeay32.dll into system32 dir.
The real solution for me was to install openssl light, as mentioned earlier. JB worked like a breeeeze, even if openssl complained a couple of times about missing MS c++ runtime (…) and not being able to replace libssl32.dll because it (claimed it) was open by another app (false, cause I could find anything with process explorer by sysinternals which is quite accurate usually).
Anyway, it works, and spirit can then do its great JB job.
My laptop is on Vista Business SP2.

when i tried to jailbreak my itouch all of a sudde everythig i my doc was gone. the app store, voice recorder, and a ton of other stuff just disappeared. what do i d o now!
im pretty sure my ipod touch 3.1.2 is bricked, the screen is just connect the connect to itunes sign and i’ve tried hard booting it or safe booting it i’ve also tried restoring it but it said “device isnt eligible for the requested build” and ive also tried libUSB NOTHING WORKED HALP PLZ

I’m on a 3G with OS 4.0.1 trying to jailbreak first, then unlock second, so I can use phone with TMobile (and hopefully use device to internet tether).
I’ve used 0.9.5b5-5 to jailbreak successfully (I think) but when I used Cydia to unlock the phone I’ve discovered I have no internet access to my home wi-fi. I did before I rain the jailbreak app, and remember right now I have no 3G or Edge access either because phone is still locked.
Please help – any ideas??

you can download ringtones and stuff or
make sure u have antivirus software and go to http://www.thepiratebay.org download torrents and open them up with utorrent. And scan everthign ( DONT DOWNLOAD ANY TYPE OF SOFTWARE) music and videos normally have no viruses.
Via http://www.thepiratebay.org u can download a ton of apps and stuff.

The solution is to copy the file “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\libeay32.dll” to the “C:\Windows\System32\” directory.

For those being unable to use Spirit because an un-activated iPhone (typically Sprit error code 1), redSn0w is your friend.
I upgraded my 3G from 3.0.1 to 3.1.3 and lost my jailbreak and unlock. As I dont have AT&T SIM card, the phone was stuck on “Please connect to iTunes”
I planned to use sprit but the fine print says the phone must be activated. Same thing with jailbreakme, as I had no way to reach Safari. Tried Spirit anyway and got error code 1.
Contrary to what almost all sites says right now, you can upgrade safely to 3.1.3 as redsn0w now works with 3.1.3 and ultrasn0w hacktivates this version as well (this works since ultrasn0w was upgraded to support iOS 4.0)

ok, we know that spirit will work great an legal activated devices. My question is can spirit do the job on a hacktivated device with blackra1in?
Situation: 3GS MC new bootrom os4.0.1 baseband 5.13.04 (some smart friend of mine upgraded from 3.1.2 baseband 5.11.07 and now is crying desperate for help) – Using an Orange sim on an AT&T locked device I imagine is the worst case scenario!!!
The good thing was that when the device was 3.1.2 baseband 5.11.07 I jailbraked and hacktivated using blackra1n RC3 and has SHSH files saved on saurik servers for 3.1.2 As you already know blackra1n RC3 on 3GS new bootrom is tethered meaning that each time you reboot iphone you have to use again blackra1in an certainly a computer. Anyway I managed to downgrade from os4.0.1 to 3.1.2 but the baseband remains 5.13.04 and now the 3GS MC is 3.1.2 baseband 5.13.04. At this point 3.1.2 can be jailbreak only with blackra1n because also has to be hacktivated but blackra1n doesn’t unlock 5.13.04 baseband. Once the phone is jailbreak the unlock is done with ultrasn0w 0.93 from cydia witch is able to unlock any baseband. On short now I have a 3GS MC new bootrom os 3.1.2 baseband 5.13.04 jailbreak and hacktivated by blackra1n and unlocked by ultrasn0w 0.93 but STILL tethered !!!!
Question: If I run spirit at this point will be UNTETHERED, JAILBREAKED, HACKTIVATED and UNLOCKED? or all the hard work will be lost and stuck on connect to itunes screen???
Cant really help you there firekeeper but you playing with fire by mixing JBs.
I had my 3G with 3.0.1, JB and unlocked. Did the upgrade to 3.1.3 hoping to use Spirit and then Ultrasn0w, but found the damn “connect to itunes screen” and “invalid SIM”. In my case I was able to use redsn0w to do a proper JB and after that unlock with ultrasn0w.
Spirit clearly states on the fine print it can only do its magic on an activated iphone, I guess I missed it.
I really wish dev team could base their JB on methods like redsn0w instead of using safari based entry points, as that leaves all of us who need unlonk and dont have valid SIMs out of the game.
