This guide and tutorial will show you how to unlock iPhone 3.1.3 using UltraSn0w or BlackSn0w, depending on your iPhone baseband.
The first step is to jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.3, either with RedSn0w or with PwnageTool. Note that PwnageTool is the preferred method as it helps preserve the baseband.
You can use UltraSn0w to unlock these basebands:
- 04.26.08
- 05.11.07
- 05.12.01
- 05.13.04
To find out what your baseband is, go to Settings > General > About > Modem Firmware.
How to unlock iPhone 3.1.3 with UltraSn0w
- Launch Cydia.
- Add the following source to Cydia repo666.ultrasn0w.com (note there is a “0″ in sn0w, not an “o”).
- After installing this source in Cydia, search for “ultraSn0w”.
- Install UltraSn0w and reboot your iPhone.
How to unlock iPhone 3.1.3 with BlackSn0w
- Launch Cydia.
- Add the following source: http://blackra1n.com.
- After installing this source in Cydia, search for “BlackSn0w”.
- Install BlackSn0w and reboot your iPhone.

ok dude i downloaded blackrain or w/e its called. i had previously had my friend unlock my iphone before, its an older model. but when i went to run the software blackrain, itunes gave me the option to restore my phone, but idk if u should do that or not b/c it said all info would be erased? should i do i anyway please help asap my phone is very important for the things i do with church and school thank you.

Hi there, the wife has an 8gb original iphone. She of course didnt ask me and upgraded to 3.1.3. I went through the tutorial and used pwnage to jailbreak it. It seems ok since i get the pineapple and cydia is on the phone now. It still says no sim card. I tried Ultrasn0w but it still isnt working. We are on Tmobile.

Sebastien, I dont understand one thing: If i have an iphone 3gs (old boot) firmware 3.1.2 and baseband 5.11.07, and I restore it with a custom 3.1.3 firmware (created by pwnage tool=no baseband update) I will have an iphone 3gs firmware 3.1.3, and 5.11.07 baseband, right?? well, could i stiil unlock it using blacksn0w?? even with this 3.1.3 firmware??? so…the only important thing to keep in mind at unlocking time is the baseband number??? do you happen to know… I have an old iphone- original… it was locked and I could not remember the passcode… my husband googled how to unlock (?)- my question is- would it have deleated all the content that was on the phone? inorder to restore for using for games- or- could he have unlocked and seen all of my content re: text etc- the phone is clean now of all- but- I want to know- would he have had access to the content by hooking up to itunes to break in?- does this make sense? thanks for input…

Downgrade iPhone 3.1.3 (Baseband 05.12.01) To 3.1.2 Using Fuzzyband Downgrader Cydia App
Apple has recently updated iPhone firmware to 3.1.3, and ever since then, there have been updates to jailbreaking tools such as PwnageTool 3.1.5, redsn0w 0.9.4, and Sn0wbreeze V1.5, to make them compatible with the latest iPhone OS. iPhone 3G 05.08 bootloader users who have accidentally upgraded their firmware to 3.1.3, only later realizing that they are unable to preserve their unlock, can now downgrade to iPhone 3.1.2 baseband 05.12.01, an unlockable version using Fuzzyband Cydia App.
Here are the steps to downgrade your iPhone 3G to 3.1.2 firmware using Fuzzyband:
1. Launch Cydia from your iPhone’s Springboard.
2. Tap on ‘Sections’ tab found at the bottom. Scroll down the list and select ‘System’.
3. Find ‘Fuzzyband Downgrader’ in the list of packages and select it. Tap on ‘Install’ at the top right, then tap ‘Confirm’.
4. After the installation is complete, launch Fuzzyband Downgrader from the Springboard.
5. Fuzzyband will now query your iPhone’s modem and list details, including Boot loader version, Baseband version, and also iPhone OS version.
6. In case your bootloader is 5.08 you will be able to downgrade your iPhone 3.1.3 to 3.1.2.
7. Tap ‘Downgrade’ and Fuzzyband will take care of the rest.

Hey AJ is your iPhone jailbroken? When you jailbreak You get an option to install Cydia. Find a jailbreak tutorial and the. Downgrade your baseband with fuzzyband 3.1.3-1. But you need to have bootloader 5.08. Or you can use pwnage tool super bowl day launch to jailbreak and unlock. You can find it at dev-team.com

Dongrade Baseband : u need to use Fussyband get from cydia==>search==>Fuzzyband.
after install start the Fuzzyband ( if u are lucky and u have Bootloader 05.08 u can downgrad but if u have baseband 05.09 software not working for you )

Some iPhone Developers Start develop Applications and Libraries witch extends the iPhone OS But These Applications Need Full Permission to The system layer in your iPhone OS to work and Apple didn’t gives the developers this permission in the iPhone SDK by Default , so some developers create there own programming language called iPhone Open SDK and they create there own store (free store same as AppleStore Server) and there own installer called Cydia (same as AppStore Installer) but all you need to do to make these applications to work on your iPhone you need to hack you iPhone OS witch we called it (Jailbreak)
- but jail breake your iPhone does not mean that you unLock it to accept any SIM card its just give you the ability to install cydia and others CooooOoooOOooL Applications
Unlock = > unlocking your iPhone is illegal thing for apple , so they not allowed the system by default to give you permission to access the SIM information , so you need to jailbreak first and then you can download a tool using Cydia Installer to unlock your iPhone to accept any SIM like “ultraSn0w, blackSn0w ……”, but the problem is that apple start a development war against the dev-team “the jailbreak team” so in the 3.1.3 they do some one-way security hashing in the baseband update witch prevents the dev-team from unlock the iPhone
i think they can unlock it , but they need to wait until apple next big release for iPhone OS 4 witch they think its very very sooooooooooon

Jailbraking a new iPhone 3.1.2 with blackrain, made a backup upgraded to 3.1.3 got stuck downgrade to 3.1.2 unlock again with blackrain but the baseband stil on 05.12.01 so i was stuck with “no service” resotored the backup, upograded to 3.1.3 and to my surprise it worked.
So i have got a working iPhone 3.1.3 with baseband 05.12.01, jailbroken and unlocked

I received an unlocked iphone for xmas, plugged it in to the pc to charge and clicked on some message from itunes – was a bit distracted at the time. Now phone will not work with my tmobile sim card. I am not computer or phone savvy, but will like to get my phone working again. I now have version 3.1.3 I believe, please can anyone help. Should i just take it to be unlocked again?

Natali-> You have to have “iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw” laying around from “http://mytopfiles.com/other/file/iPhone1,2_3-1-2_7D11_Restore/342866.htm” for example, just google you wil find it.
Then shut down yout phone, hit the start and home buton at the same time, keep holding on the home button and release teh startbutton wen it starts.
It starts up in restore mode, start iTunes and hit the restore button with shift presed, then you wil be prompted for a backup file select the 3.1.2 restore ipsw file and wait till its done.
You wil get an error message from iTune, just ignore this.
Then do the blackrain trick again and voila, yailbroken.
I dont know of the next things have anything to do with it but afterwards i also installed open ssh, snow, and pushfix (for the youtube bugg)

the only tool that i know to downgrade your iphone is called fuzzyband , but remember to search about fuzzyband 3.0 not 1.0 , the fuzzyband now support baseband 05.12.01 , but there is somthing else called boot loader , the fuzzyband now support bootloader 5.0.8 , just try it and if you don’t have this bootloader the fuzzyband will tell you that , just give it a try

As I know though fuzzyband can be only dowloaded when having cydia on the phone, to have cydia I would need to have it jailbroken and to have it jailbroken I need to downgrade… And the circle is closed:] I think I just need to wait until The Brains come up with the unlocking software for 3.1.3…
or try what Rein suggests… But I don’t want to mess to much with it – I just got this iPhone and still don’t know a lot about all these jailbraking and unlocking processes…

Jordan–> once you have a jailbroken iPhone 3.1.2 you upgrade using a program released by Dev Team I guess, without loosing your jailbreak and unlock!… I just checked- it’s called PwnageTool 3.1.4. It is a custom upgrade, not via iTunes. Good luck!
Hi Natali — I still don’t see how it’s possible to unlock baseband 5.12.07, having accidentally upgraded (my unlocked phone was crashing constantly and rebooting, so I was trying to restore, and failed to click “alt” to select the custom firmware upgrade). I don’t understand what Rein did to upgrade back to 3.1.3 — when I try that, I just end up with a locked and unjailbroken phone again.

hi, i’m gladys from philippines. and my aunt gave me thios iphone 3g on 3.1.2 and i upgraded it accidentally to 3.1.3, now my phone is stocked and have nothing to use, my aunt used to unlock her friends phone but what she was doing for them didn’t work for me..i really feel so upset. now my only option is to give her back the phone she gave me and let it be fixed back in US if that’s possible, or decide to leave the phone with me and wait until it is possible here in the Philippines to unlock that version. we have already installed cydia, afterall. i just don’t know what to do next..is there any one out there who could help me?..thanks!

If I follow you well, this is what you did?
1. Jailbreak to 3.1.2 using iTunes restore of a file ‘Phone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw’ (blackrein) and made a backup in iTunes – WORKING
2. upgrade to 3.1.3 in iTunes – STUCK
3. Jailbreak to 3.1.2 using iTunes restore of a file ‘Phone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw’ (blackrein) and restored previous backup from iTunes – STUCK
4. Jailbreak to 3.1.3 using iTunes restore of a file created from 3.1.3 image using snow – WORKING
Basically, after your 3.1.3 auto update from iTunes you got stuck as everybody else.
You Jailbreaked your previously working image and restored from backup, but was not working due to the baseband stuck on 05.12.01.
So you decided to jailbreak to 3.1.3 using snow which to everyone’s surprise worked!!!

I have an iPhone 3g that I updated to 3.1.3 but with bootload 5.12.07. I jailbroke it with a costum firm from sn0wbreeze using ireb to fix the itune problems of restoring. the thing is can’t unlock it neither with blackra1n nor ultrasn0w from the cydia. I couldn’t even downgrade using fuzzyband to get to 4.8 or something lesser. Anyway I heard somebody is working on this 5.12.07 version and had a fix for it but there’ll any release soon?
What’s the new in this 3.1.3 version anyway coz I coudn’t see any difference from 3.1.2????

Now we have 2 options for unlocking, and it all depends on your baseband model:
* If your baseband is still at 04.26.08, then you may use UltraSn0w.
* If your baseband is at 05.11.07, you may use BlackSn0w.
* If your baseband is at 05.12.01, you cannot unlock at this time. No one knows if we’ll ever be able to unlock this baseband.

Actualy i know about TMOBILE which works after unlocking the IPHONE,.
Iphone3g – you should be able to bring back your phone by putting it in update mode and connecting it to iTunes. It will recognize it as being in update mode and offer to flash it for you with the latest firmware. If it already has the 3.1.3 you can go ahead and flash it. It will reboot in the locked state ofcourse. Then you can try jailbreaking/unlocking all over again. I suggest the latest version of redsn0w for jailbreaking. It worked for me after facing the same problems as you.
vishal – If you accidentally updated your iPhone 3G to 3.1.3 and lost your unlock, you’re in luck! There is now a way to downgrade iPhone baseband 05.12.01 to 04.26.08 in a few simple steps thanks to Fuzzyband, an application available through Cydia.
Please note that this only works with the iPhone 3G on OS 3.1.3 with baseband 05.12.01 and the older bootloader 05.08. Let me repeat this so it’s clear. This trick will only work for iPhone 3G 3.1.3 baseband 05.12.01 with bootlloader 05.08. This will not work for the iPhone 3GS.
If you’re not sure about your bootloader, simply download and launch Fuzzyband and it will give you more info about your bootloader.
The above did not work for me as I have 5.09 bootloader. I am still waiting for an unlock.

Hey my modem firmware says 04.05.04_G . What does that mean?It’s also a 3.1.3. (7E18). How do I unlock it? Do I have to jailbreak it first? Sorry, I really have NO clue abou that kinda stuff, I just happened to get the old iphone from a friend of mine….
Jailbreak first, unlock later. you need a lot of reading to do. If you are on OS 3.1.3 with baseband 05.12.01 and the bootloader is 05.09 you have to wait for an unlock, but for now you can jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.4. In all other cases you can jailbreak and unlock.
On a personal mission today to find all the sites that claim this and assure all readers, 100% that this does NOT work. Sn0wbreeze will work fine, Itunes restore of custom IPSW will work fine, your baseband will not be touched during the process. When you install Blacksn0w your phone will freeze at the Cydia screen. Then when you go to reboot, it will stay stuck on your boot logo and never turn on. Learn from my mistake, I now have the world’s most expensive Ipod because of sites posting this and not doing the legwork.
okay but what’s the difference between jailbreaking and unlocking? sorry basic question, but again, I’m the oposite of a computer nerd.

Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a phone from a friend and he had at&t with the 3g for about a year or so and now since he resorted he thinks its back to the 3.1.3 firmware. He wont be able to put in a at&t sim because he doesn’t want to activate it. If I purchase the Phone, I am planning on using it on the Tmobile network. OK guys, maybe someone can help me on this matter. Although i read all the post, i still did not find an answer to my question. Here is the situation:
I have an 3gs iphone, with the 4th and 5th number in the serial number being 36.
I bought it with version 3.1.2 and unlocked it, after which i could not resync it with my itunes, it did not erase previous applications from it, and it did not install mine.
I had to go into setting, general, erase all content and data, hoping this will help. Once i did that the phone got stuck into booting and having the apple sign on the screen.
I tried restoring to custom 3.1.2, but did not work. Looking online i found a custom firmware 3.1.3 that i could install on the phone, and now the phone has 3.1.3, with modem firmware 5.11.07.
The custom firmware 3.1.3 has the phone already jailbroken with cydia on it, which allowed me to install apps. Online i read that ultrasn0w can unlock this firmware by installing it from cydia.
I tried that, but after installing ultrasnow, the phone gets stuck again with the “return to cydia” screen on, after which restarts on it’s own and get’s stuck on the black screen with apple sign on.
I tried the procedures abut three time with no luck. Is there any other way to unlock it?
Right now i have 3.1.3 custom firmware with a jailbroken phone, but no unlock.

Hey for those who have a 2G 3.1.3 you can unlock it with redsnow 0.9.4 There are descriptions on youtube. You’ll also have to download some other files, but again, check youtube for that. Only works on 2G phones though. So good luck!

Let me clear things up…. iPhone OS 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 baseband and older bootloader 05.08 CAN be jailbroken and unlocked with a baseband downgrade by Fuzzyband on Cydia. If you have bootloader 5.09 and higher, there is no unlock yet. So if you have one of the first batches of 3g iphones you can most likely unlock it. Best of luck with everyone else, including myself

Most probably, you are hosed. 3g phones cannot be unlocked, i believe with 3.1.3.

I tried to unlock it a couple of times using blacksn0w, but every time i install blacksn0w and reboot the phone, it doesn’t start… It freezes at the pineaple logo… what does this mean?

Same problem as others with 3.1.3, baseband 5.11.07 and blacksn0w. It freezes on boot. You need to remove your instructions for using blacksn0w with 3.1.3. It doesn’t work, and the phone won’t even boot.

Step 1 update to original 3.1.3
step 2 jailbreak with spirit beta 3.112.12(if its says unknown error then its ok)
step 3 turn off
step 4 wait for 1 day or remove cover& take out battery, place battery
step 5 insert sim, its done

if the purpose is to unlock it rouse on other network, what I know is you contact your network providers like o2 and they will unlock it for free.
However, if u want to use it for tethering, u don’t really need to unlock it as it can be done by adding “sinful” to your resipotory and after, searching for PdaNet, install and job done! I can tether with mine and it works fine.

I have confirmed the new ultrasn0w works. I am using my 3g 5.12.01 with T-MOBILE
As of writing this I just unlocked my Iphone 3g for t-mobile. I was trying to unlock my phone so that i could give it to my friend when i get my iphone 4. I couldn’t get it to work at first so all i did was reinstalled it this time with the T-mobile sim card in it and it worked like a charm. I noticed if after the reboot you get the NO Service at the top just wait it out and you will see the EDGE icon pop up and then the carrier will show. I works fine and I was able to call my mum using his sim and his # appeared and everything.

@Luc Oversloot : First you need to know your original carrier. then insert their SIM card into the iPhone and hey presto, it’s activated! Now you can use it with either that Sim card or without any.
Second step is jailbreak it with Spirit.
Third step is unlocking
you know guys ,ihave unlock my iphone 3G on 22 june 2010,now its work properly,but igot problems in network connections its not work except the wi-fi its work,but the celluar Data dose not working,idont know ,how to solve it my dears,,,plz plz plz give me helping.
