Turns out we have some good news from the Dev Team. It is currently possible to jailbreak the iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 1G running OS 3.1.3.
Update 1: [Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Thanks to daring experimenters in the comments, we can confirm that yesterday’s redsn0w works for today’s 3.1.3 update for iPhone 2G. Just point it at the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW after doing update or restore to 3.1.3. So far we’ve only confirmed this for iPhone 2G. (Note that if this does work for iPhone 3G too, you can *only* use it if you don’t care about the unlock.)
Update 2: [Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Can confirm that this method works for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G too. Don’t do it for iPhone 3G if you need an unlock though (really, don’t!). For older iPod touch 2G, we’ll need a small (1-character) change in redsn0w source.
What does that mean? It means that if you have an iPod Touch 1G, an iPhone 2G or an iPhone 3G, you can use RedSn0w to jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.3. If you care about ever unlocking your iPhone, DO NOT do this. Just wait and stay away from the update.
Here is what you have to do to jailbreak your iPod Touch 1G, iPhone 2G or 3G. First, update to the latest 3.1.3 firmware from iTunes, then simply follow the directions in my RedSn0w tutorial. Download the latest version of RedSn0w and when asked to choose for a firmware, make sure to choose 3.1.2.
This method reportedly works for jailbreaking the 3 devices mentioned above. It doesn’t work for the iPhone 3GS and for other iPod Touches.
The Dev Team is currently working on it. I will update you as soon as we get more info. Make sure to check the jailbreak section for up-to-date information about jailbreaking.

So I currently have a iphone 3g, Jailbreak still on a 2.2.1 from months ago. Not too worried about the unlock. Only thing I need is a few apps, my cydia stuff. If I restore to the new 3.1.3, do I just have to run Redsnow then? Also will this work on PC. Haven’t really paid attention to the JB’s since quickpwn. I am missing on some apps cause of not being 3.0.

When you select restore hold down your shift key. This will allow you to select a firmware file from your pc. You can easiely download the file from this site.

@Rsin Simply plug in your iPhone, update to 3.1.3 and downlaod the latest redsn0w to jailbreak. You won’t be able to unlock. Yes it will work on a PC.
@Michelle Downgrading won’t change anything at all. You updated the baseband and that’s what’s important to unlock. You will not be able to unlock or jailbreak your 3GS at least until the Dev Team finds a solution (don’t ask when, we don’t know). You should be able to jailbreak your 3G with the latest RedSn0w. No unlock for the 3G either.
@Verginia This is called a tethered jailbreak. It’s annoying but there is nothing wrong. Everytime you reboot your iPhone, simply plug it in your computer and launch blackra1n. That’s the way to start your iPhone.
@Joe The 3GS 3.1.3 cannot be jailbroken at the time. No one knows when we’ll be able to.
@MF Genius – When you plug it in iTunes, it always ask you if you want to update to the latest firmware. iTunes never updates the iPhone without asking you, so it is safe for you to activate the phone and jailbreak it with redsn0w. Just say NO to the update request.
@Debbie Assuming you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS, then there is nothing you can do. It is locked until at least the Dev Team finds a solution. There is no estimated time for this.

Sebastein. I see online that the dev team has release redsnow 9.0.4 and can jailbreak for 3gs can you look into this. If you google redsnow 9.0.4 it brings it up. I tried to download it but maybe I’m a novice so that’s why I trust you to help.

Sebastein. It shows online when you google redsnow 9.0.4. That 3gs has been jailbroken and show tutorals and pictures just like you show. And had where you can download the new redsnow but i couldn’t download it Thats why I wanted you to take a look at it.

hello every one, i am not well experiensed with all this, however i’ve done a big mistake upgrading to 3.1.3 however is it possible that i can downgrade to earlier version?
I am using an Ipod Touch 2g (older), and I just used the redsn0w method. It seemed to do what it was supposed to and rebooted just fine after about 10 minutes. But cydia (or however you spell it) is not there. I am not sure what to do.

I accidentally updated the new firmware and I am in Hong Kong using my unlocked iphone 3g. Now it restored everything back to pre-jailbreak. I tried using blackra1n again, which didn’t work. Now, I just have the screen up with the USB cable (arrow up) iTunes logo. And the iPhone isn’t showing up in my iTunes either. Is there any way to restore the firmware to a lower version and rejailbreak? I’m even willing to do a full restore of any kind as I have everything backed up on my computer?

@Dave Download 3.1.2 firmware from our downloads page. Then plug in iTunes, hit SHIFT + restore at the same time. It will ask you to choose a firmware. Just select the one you previously downloaded.

I managed to Jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1.3 with ( sn0wbreeze-V1.5.1) It’s easy Just follow the instruction.
Cydia is working fine but Rock is not doing the job…appsync 3.1.2 worked fine on my 3.1.3.

I can’t find the .ipsw file in the firmware 3.1.2 download. I got the zip but cannot find any firmware file in there and so can’t do the jailbreak.

@David Either remove the .zip extension or redownload the file using Firefox, not Safari
So I tried to downgrade my iphone once I accidently updated it to 3.1.3. I did all that and then it said that I needed to activate my phone with an AT&T sim card. But I have tmobile. I left it alone for a while and it cut off on me. It would not turn on with just the power button so I pressed the power and home key and it rebooted. But it cut off again and now it won’t come on at all. Even when I do press the home key and power button. What to do?!? Will I be able to fix this or is it a log now?!
I have iphone 3g with 3.1.3, you cannot Jailbreak nor unlock it. I have tried everything other than snowbreeze as it cannot be trusted.
Redsnow even 9.4 will not Jailbreak this phone
The new Pawnge tool will not build a new 3.1.3 ipsw file contrary to what is being posted online, the directions are pretty straight forward but when you go to actually try to do it it will tell you that it does not recognize your 3.1.3 ipsw file, it will let you build an older 3.1.2 file as it always has but then itunes wont let you load it….
at some point in every method posted on the internet, there is a flaw and perhaps it is just my phne but i doubt it. I have jailbroken every version upgrade since I have had my iphone successfully with no issues…so its not new to me.
I have spent at least 60 hours attempting to jailbreak my 3.1.3 phone…..
now the dev team says you can…..but read the print, you must have an already jailbroken 3.1.2 phone with cydia on it and save the files using cydia, you cannot jailbreak 3.1.3 without these files, so if you have never jailbroken your phone prior to upgrading to 3.1.3 your SOL.
Maybe in 6 months whn os4 comes out, they will release the exploit, until then enjoy your paper weight!

I was super angry when i upgraded from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3, itunes tricked me.
I was angry for a day but then i downgraded to 3.1.2 by downloading the firmware online and then holding option+clicking restore or shift+restore on a pc.
after downgrading youre going to get an error 10-15 ignore it and make it rain.
Then I used blackra1n and it jailbroke it. after being really happy i proceeded to dl cydia and unlocked it. lol it was only paperweight for a day but it was horrible.

—-What You Need To Know To Jailbreak Iphone 3G—-
1:Update your iPhone to 3.1.3 via iTunes .
2:Download sn0wbreeze-V1.5.1 .
3:Download iREB.
4:Install iH8sn0w “Make Sure you Install libusb-win32-filter even if you win64″
5:After Updating to 3.1.3 Locate Your IPSW (C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates)
P.s: AppData is a hidden folder you need to go to Control Panel–>FolderOptions–>View Tab check the option “Show Hidden Files ,Folder” Apply and now you can find the IPSW .
6:Open snowbreeze locate your 3.1.3 ipsw.
7:I highly recommend Simple mode, Follow to the end .
8:Your New Patched IPSW Now on your Desktop with the Name (sn0wbreeze_iPhone 3G.ipsw).
9:Run ih8sn0w tool as adminstartor and read the top instructions on the top of the application.Select Your iPhone/iPod
10:Open iTunes The Hold shift And Click restore —> select the snowbreeze_iPhone3G.ipsw on your desktop.

A:If your iphone restart back again with no changes it means you’re stuck in the “Fix Recovery Mode Loop” to fix that you have to have the libusb-win32-filter, Fix it with iH8sn0w.

When i try to restore to 3.1.2 , with the Shift+restore it tries to make me find a *.ipsw file but none of the firmwares have that type of file extension.. what am i doing wrong.. i have jailbroke/unlocked my phone before and never had a problem…
I followed your well written tutorial for jailbreaking iPhone 2G FW 3.1.3 with RedSnow. The procedure worked, phone is working great on Tmobile. Thank You very much for only thing I miss is the MMS settings. Seems like there isn’t a way to enable MMS on this FW yet. Something to consider for those who want to get 3.1.3 FW.

I downloaded Black Rain lastnight on my 3gs 3.1.2. Then when I downloaded Winterboard (after donwloading Cydia) my phone told me to reboot. So I did and now it tells me to sync with itunes and will not work until I do. So when I hooked my iphone up to itunes it told me I have to restore & update to 3.1.3.
I did not do this yet, I disconnected so I still have 3.1.2 on my iphone & the “sync to itunes on my iphone”
So per what you said to Verginia of 2/3:

i upgraded my iphone to 3.1.3 by mistake and then jailbreaked it through redsnow 0.9.2
But after that when i put my sim in,it is searching for network and i am not able to use it…

1. First you must downgrade the baseband with Fuzzyband in cydia.
That means you need to jailbreak. There are one that can do it
now. The problem people are having is after the jailbreak, they
don’t have signal foe the phone. Just downgrade the baseband
first.
2. After the baseband downgrade, redo the jailbreak again.
3. If you are using pwnagetool, when asking Select “yes” if you
don’t have an iPhone contract with an Apple appointed Cellular
Service Provider. If you select “no”, it will not activate the
phone. Made that mistake 3 times.
4. This will give you baseband 04.26.08 and jailbreak and signal.
5. It took me 2 days to figure this out. Enjoy.

I got it last christmas and went straight to jailbreaking,
but.. i turned it off, and new to the whole concept of jailbreaking i was un-aware that if you turned off your iPhone, you would have to plug it into your computer and “Make it rain”
So i stood around the computer on christmas day yelling at it.

@ Wendy, From what i read and if i’m mistaken im sorry, but all you have to do, is plug your phone back into your computer and “Make it rain.”

I have a question about the iphone 2g.. just purchased a used one and its been unlocked and jailbreak on it. Its software version says 2.2.1 I was wondering if I can safely go to the new software on itunes ( 3.1.3 ) or will this make the phone no longer unlocked? Just to tell u that I had a 2g IPh. 1.1.4 fw one (oob), bought in the USA feb. 2008 and already got it jailbroken and unlocked (the e-bay seller did it for me). I had it that way for two years, not many apps in it, but lately I had severe problems with wifi so as my last solution I had to upgrade it to 3.1.3. I did it on 02/19/2010. Then I realized about the mistake done (Sh…..t) so I looked in the internet, followed patiently the guide up here in this web to jb it with redsn0w and, bingo!, now I have it in 3.1.3 fw, already unlock and of course, jb, with Cydia in it. I tell u, It works !

I have successfully jailbroken my iPhone 3Gs on version 3.1.3. Follow all the steps above to get version 3.1.3 on your phone. Install cydia. Unlock the phone. In cydia, follow the stps to get to add source and then add http://apt.macosmovil.com to the source. Then search in cydia for AppSync hackulous OS 3.1. Install this and the restart the iPhone. Sync then with iTunes and your apps will install on the phone.

gena, question… your phone was already jailbroken first to be able to have cydia downloaded right? or are u saying your iphone was not jailbroken, u are on 3.1.3 with a 3gs and u were able to jailbreak it? thanks!

Specs:
iPhone 3gs MCXXXXX Model Original Firmware version 3.1.2
I used blackrain on march the 10th to jailbreak my new 3gs, i also “made my life easier” and sent the SHSH via cydia, and i was in Jailbreak heaven.
Today I powered down the iPhone for the first time and freaked out thinking that i had bricked the iPhone. I tried to do the “downgrade” to 3.1.2 through itunes to correct the issue. I was unaware, and had i read this forum before, wouldve known all about the “tethered jailbreak” and necessity of making it rain whenever i rebooted the iphone. However, when i tried to modify my hosts file etc, i kept getting the error in iTunes about Apple not accepting the file. So like an idiot i said “a stock iphone is better than a brick” and updated to 3.1.3.
Question: Did i miss the “cutoff date” by sending in my SHSH on 3/11/10? Or should I try the downgrade option again now that I am actually downgrading?
Also, if I did miss the “cutoff date” is it true that due to the fact that mine is an MCXXXX model that I am SOL for jailbreaking at this point in time?

My 3.1.2 3Gs iPhone mysteriously bricked itself … after I had successfully jail-broke it with Blackra1n and was successfully using (not abusing) RockYourPhone app MyWi …. of course when you experience having your iPhone being bricked …. WELL … you just want it back … [[Aside: my 1st experience being bricked was by Apple itself giving me a good brickin' with the 1st 3Gs iPhone update ... they bricked it perfectly!]] …. anyhow, after my 2nd bricking … I really suspect Apple is behind it … anyhow didn’t realize until it was too late that Apple had put 3.1.3 on it … ’cause I just wanted my iPhone back. I do not trust Apple as far as I can throw my iPhone! Just my 2c’s … Take care and be-aware ….
Confirmed – Redsn0w 0.9.4 does work for 3G on 3.1.3 FW / 5.12.01 MB model.
–very simple to use- Windows Xp SP2, 32 bit os.
Download latest version of iTunes and update to 3.1.3 like you normally would.
Download redsn0w 0.9.4 zip file to desktop
Dowload Custom 3.1.3 ipsw file to desktop
Turn your iPhone -off-

Launch redsn0w and just follow the instructions
When asked, just pick the custom 3.1.3 ipsw file that you just downloaded to desktop,
redsn0w will confirm that it is the correct file.
Now heres, what I did different than what all instructions said to do, when prompted for what to install, check “Cydia” only.
–Follow the instructions to go to Recovery Mode–
When you see the logo on your phone that says its installing jailbreak apps, your THERE!!

I wound up losing my apps and contacts, no big deal, after accidently upgrading to 3.1.3,
I will manually get my phone back to the contacts and apps that I had,

but my iphone shows no signal after thiss.

hmmmm strange, usually wifi works when u reboot..glad u figured out the cause of the problem

im having a problem when i downloaded something from cydia for the installation to be completed i had to reboot and i did now it stuck with all of these command prompts and it dosn’t come up on my computer.

I live in Japan and I have the 3g version. I jailbroke it with blackrain on 3.1 and it workd for a while. But after a few month, it crashed. It just kept on rebooting. I ended up doing a restore and my itune updated the phone to 3.1.3. Now, I have a regular functioning phone that is not jailbroken.
Q: Can I jailbreak it using black rain and then unlocking it at snowbreeze?
If not, what can I do and where can I download the programs?

Ok, I just want to clear this up, I “jailbroke” 3.1.3, I did not “unlock” since I am a AT&T subscriber.
Read the articles and answers posted! ie “Sorry I’m new to this, can I unlock this? Can I jailbreak that?” Read people read and stop asking all the same questions!!!
i use dis method to jailbreak my 3g n it did work but wen i tried to unlock it by cydia my phone hanged n its 5 hours but still not startin.. wen i try to put it on der only apple logo cums on my screen doesn’t go futher..

Artist here who has a iPhone 3G with 3.1.3 firmware from iTunes update. Also 05.12.01 base band. All I want is to tether my iPhone to my pc running vista. Can’t afford the AT&T $60 a month way to get 3g on my laptop! Having my laptop tethered to my pc would really help my business. Looking for a simple way to tether with some wU to keep informed of updates if needed. So grateful for any sensable advice, cheers Dee

Its been a few weeks since I last visited this site. I mentioned earlier that I had lost all of my apps from my previous jailbreak. Thanks to “Rock”, they were all backed up on that server. Be sure to load the app “Rock” and on the front page, have it download all of your jailbroken apps to storage in case you accidently upgrade to a OS that there is no jailbreak for. Then, when you do your next jailbreak, you can restore all of your original apps. THANKS “ROCK”!

i accidentally restored my iphone 3g. to the new 3.1.3 I jailbroke it and unlocked it with blackra1n on the 3.1.2. Ive tried the snowbreeze 1.5 and the beta version to get it back to 3.1.2 so i can just unlock it for my t-mobile service. I get errors in itunes when i try to restore with the 3.1.2 download. Will i ever be able to get my iphone back restored at all

Hey folks. Trying to jailbreak a 3g (not 3gs). This is a newer phone and came with 3.1.3 right out of the box. I’ve followed the directions for redsnow 094 (and even tried 093)…no luck. It all seems to work but then doesn’t reboot. I’ve let it sit there for almost 5 minutes and the screen just stays blank.
Any further ideas? I don’t care about unlock, just jailbreak.

hey ok so i’ve tried everything psssible to jailbreak my iphone 3g which accidentally got updated to 3.1.3 i tried snowbreeze but i always get error 1604 or it wont do anything then i tried redsnow but it gets stuck at the reboot screen i did everything possible. snowbreeze gets stuck i tried ireb but it doesnt do anything i never get white or red screen and i only need to jailbreak not unlock please if you have anything you did and worked help me ill appreciate any help because i dont know what to do anymore…

a) Can I downgrade to 3.1.2?
b) If answer to “a” is “YES” then can I Unlock and Jail Break after downgrading?
I dont have anything to loose on the Iphone, but I must get this phone Unlocked as I want to use this Phone in INDIA.

i could be wring but u cant downgrade from 3.1.3, when u try to you end up with error 1015 and the IREB 3.1.2 application doesnt work on the system.

I used redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak and unlock my iPhone 2G FW 3.1.3. And I’m unable to download anything from Cydia. I don’t know where I went wrong. Every time I open Cydia it says ‘Cached Failure’, ‘Host Unreachable’ etc.

Hi, if it’s really unlocked, then when you using T-mobile sim card you must turn off 3G. Settings -> General -> Network -> Enable 3G (on/off). And make sure that your baseband is not 05.12.01 (Sett->Gen->About) so if it’s 05.12.01 that’s mean someone sold you only jailbroken iPhone and you can use only with AT&T card.

I dont know but after trying to download blackrain it went out frozen… I got this pinapple logo all the time… I tried different way to shut it off. (holding down the up&down botton and the menu botton at the same time, etc.) and my computer is not even reading the iphone usb.. it is dead.
I dont know what to do. I will ship it back to the seller. I really would like to keep that iphone.

My phone is now stuck to a usb image pointing to itunes logo. I read in ur articles that iphone 2G 3.1.3 can be jailbroken but you have also given a warning – “if you have an iPod Touch 1G, an iPhone 2G or an iPhone 3G, you can use RedSn0w to jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.3. If you care about ever unlocking your iPhone, DO NOT do this. Just wait and stay away from the update.”

I am just wondering I have iphone 3gs 16gb and the phone was previously jailbreak from version 3.1.2. and yesterday i accidently update with spirit jaibreak so now my phone is completely off and whenever i turn on it tells me to connect to itune but once i connect i need to restore and update to the newest version. what I heard is that for the newest version is not jailbreak. So is there any other way I can do to get my phone back to 3.1.2 version. or i just have to wait till they release the unlock for 3.1.3 version ?

man my phone froze up so I tried restarting it but it wouldn’t go past the Apple sign so I just try to reset everything by putting 3.1.2 but now i can’t even get in the phone wht do i need to do now? I have T-Mobile so don’t have a phone to use now.
