As usual, in order to get him motivated, you have to do something in exchange. He wants you to make #dudeitsaballoon a trending topic on Twitter. I haven’t really looked into it as I don’t have much time while traveling, but it has something to do with red balloons in the sky.
Some of you may be interested in this untethered jailbreak as it is a pain the the butt to always have to plug your iPhone every time you want to reboot.
So, what are these red balloons about?
Can someone explain what an untethered jailbreak is? Is the existing 3gs jailbreak not good enough?
I thought that the intethered was for iPod Toich v3?? You don’t have to plug 3GS in every tine you reboot.
The latest batch of iphone 3GS’s have a new bootrom that makes it a pain to jailbreak. so you have to plug them in and run blackra1n every time you reboot. If the 4th and 5th digit in the serial number is 40 or above then thats the new batch. My brother just got one of these today, the jailbreak is the same, but he has to run blackra1n on it every boot.
For this tethered jailbreak, do i need to unlock my iphone 3gs using blacksnow again? or its just the jailbreak thats affected?

What you all need to realize is that even if the Dev-Team discovers an unteathered jailbreak, they will NOT release it anytime soon. They will hold onto it until the next iPhone releases just like they originally intended for 24Kpwn. Only way they would prematurely release it is if some asshole like GeoHot did it for their own personal gain. I want to like GeoHot but he’s a douche – always has been, always will be!

A month ago you same 3gs posters had a phone that could not be unlocked then you were ever so grateful that he allowed you to unlock it, no complaints about tethering back then, now your all pissed off because he just mentioned the notion and has not delivered.

It’s most likely impossible to make it unteethered because the Rom changes don’t allow a misdirect to run something else other than the orginal boot code.

I love how you grouped us all into the same group – a group that supposedly worshiped GeoHot at one point. I, for one, never needed GeoHot’s blackra1n or blacksn0w exploits… so no, he was never Jesus to me. Thanks to the Dev-Team, I’m running baseband 4.26 on 3.1.2.

I also have one of the orginal 3GS and I don’t use any of geohots software. My intent was not to group everyone together, I was talking to all those people who made those negative posts about Geohot. All of them are using newer 3GS and are unlocked because of him yet they complain that he won’t go further and untether there phones. Why don’t they send him 10 thousand dollars if they want it so badly, or write there own code? Why the Hell are they cursing the guy who allowed us all to jailbreak our phones in the first place. If you look back to older news articles these guys where praising him before now they call him names,,, jeez would you want to write free hacks for people like this if you were Geohot? Yes he’s eccentric but so are most geniuses. This guy is a freakin celebrity, yes I said celebrity, he’s been covered on CNN and many other news organisations and he’s well know by thousands of people. So like any other celebrity he is needy and self indulgant! Still it does not matter because he’s F’in great at what he does and if he needs some stroking to get him motivated either comply or don’t ask him for anything! This guy could be making a frakin 7 digit salary if he wanted yet he plays around in our sand box, we should all just be gratefull and leave it at that.

And if it wasn’t for Geohot I wouldn’t even have my iPhone on T-Mobile and all the other neat apps that I can install via Cydia. You people are so ungrateful it just sickens me, and not even the fact that these programs given to us are for free.
I would have to agree with Adrian, although the current jailbreak is super annoying, hopefully someone will pull through so I can restart my damn phone!

I realy hope this guy can get this untethered jailbreak released, its a pain in the a** to have 2 plug in my iphone 3gs to my computer every time i reboot or restart the device! Also i have noticed that sometimes wen i download some apps off cydia or installous i get the message ‘reboot device’ or ‘restart device’ once the app is finished downloading which means i have 2 re-jailbreak all over again! plz some1 fix this issue or bring back something like quickpwn 3.1.2 (untethered)
For those of u who dont know the diffrence between tethered and untethered . Tethered (jailbroken) = Every time you reboot or restart your device you will need to plug in your iphone/ipod in2 your computer and re-jailbreak again. Untethered (jailbroken) = No matter how many times u reboot or restart your iphone/ipod u will still keep the jailbreak and ALL your apps and u wont need 2 plug in your iphone/ipod 2 your computer 2 re-jailbreak

Ha, just got a used 3gs with old bootrom. Jailbreak and Unlock took less than 5 min with blackra1n rc3. No problems with WiFi, Youtube, etc. The easiest and trouble- free JB I’ve ever done,and I have to thank GeoHot for it.
I for one and very pleased with what GeoHot has done for us newer bootrom iPhone 3GS’ers and don’t care if I have to plug in my phone to re-break my phone every reboot I do. Least there is a jailbreak. There may be a full untethered jailbreak coming, but I’m perfectly happy with what I have now. Thanks, GeoHot.

Geo i think your software is great but i am a little disappointed that you can create the jailbreak(untethered) at your will but you choose not to just because of a contest that was going to make you money . BUT still very good software

IMHO he is smarter than that. No one, and I mean no one, is currently working on any current JB. Not GeoHot, not the Dev Team; no one.
It makes NO sense at all to make public any new JB exploits before Apple comes up with the new iphone by the middle of this year. Why would they give Apple all their knowledge when their goal is to hack the new iphone as soon as it comes out? Why give Apple that huge advantage?
FW 3.1.2 with baseband 05.11.07 can be JB and unlocked, and that is it. Those with the new bootrom are stuck with a tethered JB fort the moment. Nothing much to do about it

I’m a noob to iPhone but am frankly disgusted by the amount of control and limitations apple embeds in my new 3gs, and am dismayed by the lack of an untethered solution. My answer will be to buy something else. The newest androids are looking pretty good, and best of all you don’t have to be reigned over by some f$&king mega Corp with a God complex who wants to tell me that icant do simple things with my smartphone like multitasking or even create folders to store my app shortcuts. What’s the point in thousands of great apps if you can’t even control them? Everyone will have their own separate reasons for wanting a jb on this device, but I sedans understand the frustration in this conversation from both ends, and guess what? It’s not the hackers fault or the basic consumer who wants some control over their device. The fault lies with apple and it’s policies which show contempt to their customers. F them, I say, get a droid, hero or. Nexus one and hit ‘em where it hurts.

Sn0wbreeze beta is out. It is a pwnage- like alternative to windows users. Very flexible way to create custom FW , while preserving baseband. However, this is also a tethered JB for 05.11.07 with new bootrom.
I understand that Redsn0w’s code for windows was found, and that it will probably come out soon as well. Again, tethered JB for the newer bootrom.
What I was trying to say is that, as I understand it, there not any fully untethered solution coming in soon.
WE JUST Have to W8, GeoHot, DevTeam, Greenpoison, or Snowbreaz one of them will get this tethered BS fix…. just like the PSP 3000

This geohot guy needs 2 release this UNTETHERED jailbreak for iphone 3gs 3.1.2 soon. Ive also noticed that sometimes when i download a big file/app off cydia such as winterboard NES or SB settings i get asked 2 reboot my device after the app has downloaded!!!!!! An unteathered jailbreak is were you can reboot (turn on and off) your iPhone 3G S without having to plug it into the computer. On the otherhand, the teathered jailbreak is were you have to plug your Iphone into the computer every time you reboot. Therefore, Teathered Sucks! & Unteathered Rocks!!!

first its not a pda phone, second its a real PITA cuzz some apps from cydia need a reboot after installing, and 3rd lets say your out and about and for some reason U dont get to a charging place, and then U finally find a place (but ur not home) and start charging. BAM u have to JB it again! but wait! what this? U dont have ur computer with ya on hand to JB it again and ur stuck in the DFU mode. so yea thats what the big deal is about…class dismissed!

Think of it as a security feature! I dropped my phone and some jackass decided to steal it. I was dismayed that I never knew about all this find my iphone crap so it’s gone, but, since it was a tethered JB, they didn’t have access to all my information, my email etc. etc. that my iphone was tied to because they decided to turn the phone off so I couldn’t call or track them!
A small consolation, I know, but oddly effective.

It is annoying, I think if any of these developers set up a pay method, many if not all of us would pay. Coming from Windows Mobile and Android Phones, it is so weird seeing Apple trying so hard to block acces to JBing. It’s all new to me.

Geohot is right to think of himself as a superior being if he wants to. We have no say and are only entitled to our opinions because it is his mind and his time that he is using to develop the JBs. Whether he does it or not is his own decision. May be he has already done it and he is using it on his own phone. If he wants to share it, it is because he wants to be known for it (and who wouldnt), but he definitely does not have to.
i agree with B-dude about how if you run out of battery in a day and your stuck without your laptop… it sucks… alot… and this happens alot more than gargajoe thinks. but i really dont think this is worth getting into a large fight with lots of swearing and threats over. i also agree that they are waiting for the new iphone to come out just so that once the untethered FW comes out apple will have to develop a whole new thing instead of creating a new update from the FW. anyway my point is be patient. im sick of it too and i know everyone else is but im jsut going to keep checking until i find something

What i’ve said is that “apparently” no one is working on an unthethered JB, at least until next mayor firmware comes out.

at first I was like “fuck, new iPhone got screwd” I was about to contact apple but I tried one more jailbreak and it worked. I was relieved..
I just got my first 3Gs with 3.1.2 and 5.11 bb, and I was so happy to know that Blackra1n was able to jailbrake it, you have no idea how frustrating it was when I upgraded my 3G to 3.1.2 and no one had a Jailbrake for it, and Dev Team was saying that they were not going to even try to come up with one for Windows Users, and GeoHot did! I donated the same day I jailbroke my 3G after about a month of suffering! now I see all these people who obviously used BlackRa1n to JB their Phones complaning about it!!!!??? I don’t get it! yes granted I’ve had to deal with having to plug in and “re-Jailbrake” my phone everytime I turn it off, but does it really suck that bad???? I mean is the choice of taking 3 seconds out of your day everytime you reboot for what ever reason or not have a jailbrake at all! not sure about all of you but I’m pretty happy with pluging my phone in once in a great while for 3 seconds to be able to have all that a jailbrake offers. So as a couple of you have said, either do something about it, or shut it!
georocks….you obviously don’t get around. If I’m away from home and laptop for a couple of days and my phone crashes. I’m without phone, away from home, which is a MAJOR inconvenience. So yes…it does suck that bad. I either have to have an Apple crippled phone, or a completely unreliable smart phone that could go down at anytime. If you don’t know what I’m talking about yet try going to Murcia without speaking Spanish throwing your phone away which has hotel directions and flight times on and see how far you get.
i have all reboot files on my key/pocket pen drive. When i am away from home i just borrow a computer and reboot it in 10 seconds. I think this is better than not having a jailbreak for it.
For those who complain too much, if tethered JB sucks so much, then dont JB at all so you can have your phone ready anytime you need to call or something. Or better yet, sell your iphone and get other phone. You are unbelievably ungrateful.

B-Dude, all of us have a choice, no one forced you to buy the iphone. You made a conscience choice, you didn’t have to jailbreak, but you WANTED TO AND OBVIOUSLY DID but you can always reset back to factory and don’t have to wait for any jailbreak anymore and just be a good boy and pay through i-Tunes.

i have a iphone 3gs 3.1.2 5.11.07 , im ok with the tethered jailbreak but the problem is that whenever i download an application through Cydia the phone restarts at the end of the download and appears on the screen a cable and itunes icon …
when i connect it to the pc it doesnt work by clicking on blackra1n , i have to reinstall the software that even my phonebook gets deleted !!!
please your help guys ..
