Tutorial: Unlock iPhone 3.1.2 with BlackSn0w
It’s official, BlackSn0w is out and available for download. BlackSn0w is not a standalone app. BlackSn0w is part of Blackra1n RC3.
People who accidentally locked their iPhone on baseband 05.11.07 will now be able to unlock their iPhone using BlackSn0w.
This step by step guide and tutorial will show you how to unlock your iPhone OS 3.1.2 baseband 05.11.07 with BlackSn0w.
If you just want to jailbreak your iPhone and are not interested in unlocking, refer to my BlackRa1n RC3 tutorial.
This BlackSn0w iPhone unlock tutorial will work on both Mac and PC.
In this tutorial, I will assume that your iPhone is currently not jailbroken or unlocked.
If you are a loyal blackra1n user who kept the blackra1n.app on your iPhone, run it. You will see Icy replaced by an option “ra1n”. Install this to upgrade your app. After upgrading, run blackra1n.app again. You will see “sn0w”. Install this, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone.
If you jailbroke using pwnage or deleted your blackra1n.app, you are in luck too. Sometime later in the sn0wday, blacksn0w will be added to Cydia.
How to unlock iPhone firmware 3.1.2 with BlackSn0w:
Step 1: Update iTunes to the latest version available and reboot your computer. Make sure your iPhone runs the latest firmware 3.1.2. If not, update your iPhone to OS 3.1.2 and set it as a new phone (do not restore and set up from backup).
Step 2: Download BlackRa1n RC3 from our iPhone Downloads page. As mentionned above, you first have to run Blackra1n in order to run BlackSn0w.
Step 3: Plug your iPhone to your computer and make sure iTunes is closed. Run BlackRa1n RC3 and click on “make it ra1n”.
Step 4: Your iPhone will enter recovery mode and you will see the usual recovery image replaced by a picture of GeoHot.
Step 5: BlackRa1n will run on your iPhone and it will reboot when done.
Step 6: A message will show up asking to donate. If your jailbreak is successful, I think it’s the right thing to do to donate $5 or more. It’s a good way to keep GeoHot motivated.
Step 7: After your iPhone has rebooted, you will notice a new BlackRa1n icon on your springboard. Make sure you have an internet connection and launch BlackRa1n.app on your iPhone.
Step 8: You will now have the option to install Cydia, Rock, or both if you choose to. More importantly, you can also select “sn0w” which is the iPhone unlock for iPhone 3G and 3GS. Select at least Cydia and sn0w, then tap “install”. If you want to unlock an iPhone 2G, DO NOT install BlackSn0w. Simply install Cydia and skip to step 12.
Step 9: Once the packages are installed, your iPhone will respring and you should see Cydia (and Rock if you chose it) on your springboard.
Step 10: Once Cydia and/or Rock, and BlackSn0w are installed on your springboard, you can now uninstall BlackRa1n from your iPhone. Uninstalling BlackRa1n will obviously not remove the jailbreak and unlock. It will simply remove the BlackRa1n.app that was used to install the packages. To do so, simply launch the BlackRa1n.app and select “uninstall BlackRa1n”.
Step 11: After uninstalling BlackRa1n, I suggest you reboot your iPhone.
Step 12: This step is ONLY for iPhone 2G users who want to unlock. I repeat, if you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS, DO NOT process with this step. Launch Cydia and search for the BootNeuter app. Download and install it. Launch the BootNeuter app and tweak the settings as the image below.
When all the settings are set correctly, tap the “Flash” button. Now wait. It could take a while so be patient. Under no circumstance should you abort the process.
Done!
The whole process shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes (more for iPhone 2G that needs to be flashed). It definitely is an easy jailbreak and unlock.

I ran blacknw03 RC3 downloaded from blackra1n.com for windows, on both PC & Mac, for both a 3G & 3GS phones with 3.1.2 BB 5.11.07, & I don’t see the blackra1n.app on the springboard on either phone, I did NOT get any errors running the app, but nothing there, even rebooting didn’t fix it…
Any ideas?

Uninstall it from where George? It’s no where on my iPhone, I have 15 different computers at home, some with XP, some with Vista, some MACs, I have servers & I’ve tried everything. I have 6 iPhones different versions, 2G, 3G, 3GS, for some reason, nonthing is working.

u need to add repo on cydia go to geohot blog for add …or u can reinstall fresh 3.1.2 then do the JB and UNLOCK ..u will find the pearl icon when u only JB using blackr1an.if u JB using pwange u will not see the icon
This particular iphone I’m working with now, believe it or not, was jailbroken with BR RC1. I will check & see if I can do a fresh 3.1.2 & I’ll post back.

I have updated the phone to 3.1.2 and getting to the step after running the blackra1n and reboot, what i am having trouble with is that the iphone is not able to join a wifi network, it is giving error message , unable to join.

Do I have to have wifi to unlock 3.1.2? coz ever since I upgraded to 2.2.1 firmware, I have been having trouble connecting to a wifi. I donno if that has caused the wifi hardware to malfunction or not, but that has been the case ever since 2.2.1.

Dr-sotz, Thank you for your reply. so is it better for me to stay away from 3.1.2 till I can find any other unlocking method that does not need internet connection on the iphone? i tried resetting the network settings many time but could not get the wifi to work. some forums said that 2.2.1 sure did damage the wifi harddware on the iphones (2G).

To fully enable tethering, go help.benm.at/help on your iPhone and download a MobileConfig file for your carrier. Watch out for carrier fees for tethering.

Worked spot on for me…. I would not recommend uninstalling Blackra1n. I broke with it when it first came out, I was digging the Icon, so I put it in the center of my dock, today I was bored looked in there and ICY was gone and replaced by something saying if I wanted to run sn0w to install this first… so I did… Then I went back in and it asked if I wanted to install sn0w so I did that and pulled my t-mobile sim out and Blam…. pre paid again for when needed and my GF can use my phone when needed…
Soooo, my 3gs got stuck on the post install sn0w for a loooong time. I rebooted the phone and now the phone will not find my wifi connection.
Cydia installed.

Okay, So what i’ve figured out is that my itunes was installed improperly. I needed it to be 64bit. So i uninstalled, reinstalled itunes, then restored my phone. wifi worked, repeated the blackra1n steps, and now i am “unpacking sn0w”
so we’ll see how this goes.

ahhhh, NO SIM CARD…. make sure you don’t have a sim card in and it works perfectly!

i successfully unlocked my iphone on windows after upgrading it from 3.1 to 3.1.2, but it is NOT Jailbroken because i cannot transfer applications by itune, like anti/mosquito and others, exactly like before using black sn0w.
i tested different sim cards and it accept it, but not jailbroken as i see. i get error message.

Update: I uninstalled blacksn0w (from cydia) and then rebooted my iPhone 3GS, then reset my network settings, then rebooted again. The wifi seems to be working now.
What effect does uninstalling blacksn0w from cydia have on the phone? Is it still unlocked?

Well, for right now, we need the wifi to work so that we can finish the unlocking process. I havent been able to go any further than running blackra1n on the phone and after that you need a working wifi phone to complete the rest of the process.

Try this, go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. I done this all is now ok WiFi works a treat and unlocked.

So everything worked flawlessy! Been using my iphone 3g on 3.1.2 with tmobile all day. Calling and texting are fine. However, i just noticed i have no EDGE ($5.99 Tzone) internet. I’ve tried different APN. Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?? — Thanks!

Dr. Sotz…………. After a day long, & a long day, battling with these phones & the BR… Here is the final scoop….. on both, 3G & 3GS, I found the best way to do it is, First & for Most Backup, Backup, Backup…. if you care about your SMS & Contacts, Do a backup, on 2 different machines if you have to, I run my business through the iPhone, & my contacts are so important, as well as the SMS… after the first Issues I had of not able to see the BR icon, it had so many implications, specially if you use SBSetting, & you used to hide icons before… That will confuse the heck out of you… so again, Backup, if you are already a JB, then use the SBSetting to UNHIDE all apps, then, backup again, after that, do a fresh install of the 3.1.2, setup as new phone, then sync… after that you can restore from backup, where you will get your apps, Contacts, & SMS.. Run the BR, you will see it, my suggestion, do NOT install Cydia & Sn0w at the same time, even though a lot of people did it, I found out the best way to do it is do Cydia First, respring, or it will do it for you automatically, then run sn0w, & everything else after that… After having issues with BR, & Wifi, & so many other apps, I did it the way I just described, & I have all 6 iPhones running smooth sailing.
When I try this with my ipod touch 2g running 3.1.2 it goes into recovery mode and stays there and have to recvoer in itunes how can I make it work?
Something I never see mentioned with any of these Jailbreaks and Unlocks is that You need an AT&T Sim chip after you restore from ITunes! For people who don’t have an AT&T Sim they will not be able to go further because the phone gets stuck asking for a Valid Sim.
Once you put in an ATT Sim you can get in and Unlock, then your good to go with any Sim from any carrier.

After installing Blacksn0w I lost my wifi too and resetting network settings made the phone think that there was no wifi device installed. I stumbled across this post tho and it has fixed all the wifi problems for me.
All I did was open up cydia and added the cydia.iphoneil.net repository. Then I installed push fix rebooted my phone and everything worked perfectly.

I just realized he works for Apple, hence the break apart. I just ran BlackRain and the first thing it does is download your phone statistics and presumable collects/emails them.

here is what worked for me – rebooted, turned on the airplane mode, tried installing sn0w again (failed bcus of no internet connection); turned off airplane mode; kicked off installing snow again and it worked!!
it appears stupid.. but it worked..
Blackra1n is by the far the simplest jailbreak/unlock method there is so far. Worked like a charm!

I successful unlocked my iPhone with 3.1.2 (05.11.07) using blacksn0w by Cydia. I’m waiting for the resolution around 3 weeks until the blacksn0w released. I have no problem to unlocked this.big clap to geohot to find the resolution to unlocked 3.1.2 with 05.11.07 baseband. Go geohot.. Keep it up the good work for helping people…

hi i tried the blacksn0w tutorial but it still shows searching and later on no service i have a turbosim installed can that be a problem i had unlockled it earlier then after reboot the signal again did not show please help thanks
had no problems with the 3G but experiencing problems with WI-FI connection. tried resetting networks several times but still doesn’t work. restoring the phone now and trying the process all over again… keeping my fingers crossed. worked superbly well on the 3G though!

I should correct my post, above: I had the same wifi/youtube problems that others have reported after blackra1n/blacksn0w. Installing “youtube Fix” from Cydia fixed those problems (and strangely, corrupted the password on my primary email account, but no worries). “Push Fix” cannot be found on Cydia.
Okay I am one of those idiots who upgraded their T-Mobile iPhone to 3.1.2 and this looks like it may be the Holy Grail for me.
The thing is, the last time when I was trying to Jailbreak I couldn’t get Blackra1n to work. I never got Geohot on my iphone. The phone did go to the usb plug screen.
I can’t remember if at that point I was still running 3.1.2 or if I downgraded first. Pretty sure it was 3.1.2/ Since I never got it working (blackra1n I used a custom ipsw file which jailbroke my phone and gave me cydia. Yet fuzzband shows that my bootloader is the one which doesn’t allow unlocking.
Does this program work for that baseband ( I think 5.09)?
Do you need to first restore the phone via itunes to a factory 3.1.2?
Will this work on a custon 3.1.2?

I had previously installed a custom ispw. So I used the tutorial here:http://www.redmondpie.com/download-blacksn0w-from-cydia-for-iphone-3.1.2-firmware-9140083/ which is a how to if your 3.1.2 phone is already jailbroken.
Now the first thing I see is that I do not have the camera button on text messages. So I may try this all over again later with the BlackRa1n method to see if I can add that.

Hey I was getting ready to try this because I am about to go over seas. My question is: If I Jailbreak and Unlock my phone, will I be able to revert back to factory settings when I get back to the states? I do have ATT so I obviously have no use of an unlocked phone here. Is it as simple as just restoring it and then there will be no trace of it ever being unlocked or is there more to it?
you are correct. When you come back to the states, simply restore your iPhone in iTunes, and it will be just like it was when you first took out of the box

Hi all, read through all the posts, saw a few people with the same problem as me, but no solutions. I did it all, ran blackra1n but see no blackra1n logo on my phone when I turn it back on. Anyone know what’s up? I can check email, connect to wifi – no phone services, though. No calls, no texts, nothing. Awesome job guys. Worked great, after an epic fail on Apple’s behalf. I was updating my iPhone 3G which had been jailbroken/unlocked on OS 3.0. After realizing I didn’t have to bypass the baseband, I decided to follow this route. As I was updating my phone TRHOUGH iTUNES, W/O any other “jailbreaking” processes, the restore failed and my phone was bricked. I had to go to a friends house to try and restore on his computer, and after the 6th attempt, it worked. It was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen. As far as Apple is concerned, I could have been a regular customer just trying to update my phone, and if it wasn’t for my persistence, I may have given up restoring it failed so many times. Ugh…6 tries later, the hack worked great.

After jailbreaking with blackra1n,and blacksn0w,I get a carrier signal,but iphone 3g,shows iphone does not have ant signal bars.Shows that no signal is present.Although I know area has signal.Unable to make or receive calls.Please somebody help

i used ultrasn0w prior to blackrain and with ultrasnow i was able to install tons of applications using cydia, but on the next day, my phone wont charge on both wall and usb charger. Imagine the horror. I think ultrasn0w is not compatible with baseband 5.11.07. Now im trying blackrain, it sure did unlock my phone, but i think the wifi is not functioning…
I have jailbroken and unlocked used blackrain and apart from the restart which i had to do manually all worked well and i get Orange and 3G fine.
However i can’t restart my phone.
If i power it off and then power back i get the USB to iTune picture and i have to go through the blackrain process again.

I got stuck at Post Install for snOw, but then I closed it and then restarted blackra1n and selected Cydia and snOw, it worked ! They got installed and then I deleted blackra1n.
Now it seems my iPhone is unlocked.
Would I need to do anything, if I go to another country and use Vodafone’s Sim Card in my iPhone ?
And what’s the proof that the phone is unlocked ? Do I see it somewhere on the phone ? Because I don’t have any other carrier’s sim to try.
You don’t know if you’re unlocked for sure until you put a sim card in there. Be confident. It worked!

I am running an iPhone 2g. Everything went successfully up until the point I tried to ‘flash’ with Boot Neuter. Once I have the settings set as pictured in the screenshot in step 12, an alert says:
“CommCenter is still loaded so your iPhone needs to be rebooted first”
So, I select reboot and after that, the carrier signal says “Searching…” and I try running Boot Neuter again and the same message as above pops up again. Essentially, every time I reboot it, the same message still tells me that CommCenter is still loaded.
What am I doing wrong, or not doing?
Ok, i just switched SIM cards and was able to get Boot Neuter running, and even got the alert that says it was successfully unlocked.
However it goes back to the Boot Neuter dialog that says:
“Please wait: Determining current settings…”
and has been on it for a long time.
I can press the home button but it still shows ”Searching…” in the carrier

Hi all, having the same prob as Shelly and Peter.
Unlocking phone ok, showing tmobile logo showing as new phone in itunes and working perfectly, that is until I turn it off. When I turn it back on again it shows the usb to itunes logo, then when I connect it to itunes it says ‘iphone in recovery mode’ and that I must restore for it to work in itunes! Obviously when I do it is locked again and I have to go throught he whole process again.
Tried numerous different ways like not naming it in itunes etc.
Any help PLEASE!?

having a problem. i was running 3.1.2 firmware on a 2G, went through all the steps, and although i am getting the T-mobile logo on the top left, the phone gets stuck on:
“slide for emergency
different sim detected”
“plug into itunes”
once plugged in it says
“the sim card inserted does not appear to be supported”
any idea on whats going on =\ ??
bootneuter worked perfect, and it said everything was flashed and unlocked correctly. im just lost.

Hi again, just found this on Blackra1n site:
If your ipt2/3GS/ipt3 is rebooting into recovery after running blackra1n, this isn’t a bug. It’s a feature. You need to run blackra1n every time to boot it. This ‘feature’, called tethered jailbreak, is enabled by upgrades Apple made to the bootrom and the fact ipt3 uses nand flash.
That answers my problem and a few others’ on here. Have to run blackra1n everytime phone is rebooted or turned off and on again!! Not happy at all about that because its a hell of a hassle ie. it has to be connected to my PC for it to work again, but not neohot’s fault.

Hi Sebastian, I bought this 32 GB3GS iPhone from UK. I’m in india currently and wanted to use my iPhone here. I used your BlackSn0w to jailbreak and unlock it, which it did. I was able to make calls. When I uninstalled Blackra1n, it uninstalled all the apps from my phone. I was only left with YouTube, Stocks, Weather, Settings and iPod + Nike apps.
I did a restore and it is now asking me to “insert a valid sim with no PIN lock to activate iPhone”. I don’t have my UK sim anymore. Will it brick my iPhone if I inserted my India sim? Please, please suggest a way and help me make it through. Thanks so much in advance.

Ive tried to unlock my fone to 3.1.2 and ive tried all the steps u show on the tutorial. but the thing is mine only works from step 1 up to step 6.
After that instead of seeing the blackrain icon on my springboard, i’ll see emergency call window pop up on my iphone screen.

1. home button does not respond it take too long or need really hard press, sometimes soft press work, but goes to different icon and open automatically
2. Sleep/Power button when clicked, it took camera picture inside of camera home page, when camera even off. also main screen picture when it press.
I can live with home button slow response but Pictures taken internal screen that freak me out and i feel unsafe to use it.
I restore and jail broken and restore again with itune black rain still problem!

Molly seems your unlocking was not done properly. I suggest you restore with itune, jailbreak with Blackra1n and unlock with blacksnow, sometimes if iphone does not boot properly for some files are missing, it cause phone to work malfunction.
Only unlock with Cydia and blacksn0w. I installed rock seems too much interference with apps upgrade and update. After unlocking if you experience youtube and wifi not working , try pushfix there is blog sebastian posted here.

I have a 2G iphone and it is running firmware 3.1.2
I used Blackra1n and the phone is jailbroken. I put my ATT sim in phone it will not get me a signal so I can complete the unlock by using the the new Blackra1n icon. I tap on it and it tries to connect but fails because of no signal. This keeps me from unlocking the phone. When I first got the phone it had been unlocked using a t-mobil sim. I did not have the screen unlock so I had to restore.
Right now the Iphone is an Ipod with camera. I want to use the phone on my existing ATT account and not activate.

I recently purchased an iPhone 3g for my mom, whom has at&t w/data services from a company supplied sim, but it is not the iPhone data plan. I was wondering if there is anything i can do to get her data services active (3g logo appears on the top, but no connection to data services). I have tried blackra1n and unlock w/sn0w on 3.1.2 and the phone receives phone service but still no data. I am a t-mobile user and i tried my sim and there still was no data services (the edge symbol shows up but no connectivity), and both sims will connect to data services via other phones.
please change that line in the tutorial : Make sure your iPhone runs the latest firmware 3.1.2. If not, update your iPhone to OS 3.1.2 and set it as a new phone (do not restore and set up from backup).
as what really should be done is that you do a clean restore to 3.1.2 in order to set it as a new phone. when you update, your old data are not erased.
another issue blackra1n does not work on my mac I don’t know is this related to itunes or what I’m running OS 10.5.8

Easiest unlock ever. I just unlocked my Rogers wireless to Sun Cellular only using Snow. Awesome and very easy. Just make sure iTunes is stopped from syncing your iPhone at anytime during the process. Thank you very much!

My problem is……with the following step from the tutorial
“After your iPhone has rebooted, you will notice a new BlackRa1n icon on your springboard. Make sure you have an internet connection and launch BlackRa1n.app on your iPhone.
I put my sim in and can not get a signal so I can not complete the unlock.
I want to use this iphone on my existing ATT account and not activate it.

I loaded the second sim that I wanted to use abroad. I then started the whole process. Make sure you have stable WiFi other wise you cannot download sn0w to unlock it. Hope that works for you
Rob,meaning, eventhough the abroad sim card cant be use,we just need to blackrain it and install sn0w first is it?? correct me if im wrong…after install sn0w then we straight away can use the abroad sim card??? after we finish install sn0w,then we install cydia??? correct???

For those of you that have been getting the “CommCenter is still loaded, so your iPhone needs to be rebooted first” message : When flashing with BootNeuter when you are setting the parameters for the flashing, you need to be quick once you slide the “Baseband”->”Unlock” button to “on”, and do not wait for the phone to ask you for your SIM PIN.
Once you slide the button to “on”, hit the “Flash” button on the top right corner and it will work (at least it did for me)

All worked fine up until Step 8…when I opened BlackRain from the spring board, it says I have no internet connection, despite having full wi-fi signal in the top left corner. It also will not connect to Safari. Tried with SIM in and out but no change. How do I get around this!? I cant live without my iphone!

I have an iphone 2g. Followed the steps as outlined above, skipped to step 12 from step 8. BootNeuter 2.1 verifies that all settings are correct but the phone will not work with a vodafone sim card only the original at&t? Any ideas of what to check or what went wrong?

everything worked perfect, phoning, SMS, MMS, web-surfing, synching with itunes,
installig apps….and now, after a view days, i could not sync to itunes any more, because
it says, that my SIM is not supported, although i still could phone, or use all apps.
i also tried to rerun blackrain + snow, but no change.
did also install itune to another PC, but synching still doesn´t work ?!?!
any ideas ??

I have a jailbroken iPhone 3g when I first jailbroke it I installed cydia and Rock these both installed fine When I have tryed to install sn0w it goes throught the process and comes up with thank you for using blacksn0w unlocked by geohot bla bla bla but then when I turn my Pune on again and scroll to the end of my app pages there is no snow app there is this ment to happen or not? Can I just pop another vodaphone sim in the sim card slot now?

I am running 3.1.2 on a 3gs with the 05.11.07 baseband and no matter what I do as soon as I click “make it rain” itunes opens up and says, needs to check my software and it goes into a complete shut down and I have to do a restore. Should I be removing my sim card, or something else? I have tried restoring, and setting the phone up as a new phone, but still get the same thing
When going through all this procedure of downloading blackra1n, cydia and black sn0w, does it matter if the original At&t activated sim is still in the phone or does it have to have an activated T-Mobile sim installed?

I’ve been having some problems lately…
I’ve done everything and i’ve installed cydia and sn0w.
But when i turn my iphone 3gs off and add a different simcard to my phone 3gs, it says a itunes logo and the itunes plug pointing towards the itunes logo..
So i connected my iPhone 3gs to the computer and opened itunes.
Then It said that you must restore in order to be connected to itunes..
So i restored and everything got deleted.. but luckily i had backup, which got my stuff back!
But the thing i’m having problem is that i want to use the other simcard, which isnt letting me use,..
please help me..

This works absolutely amazing, not one problem! just follow the steps exactly how it tells you to and it works like a charm, hands down the easiest way to jailbreak and unlock the iphone!
This works great, simplest jailbreak and unlock ever! For those that get the “Post Install Log for sn0w”, circle turning and nothing happening I just left it do its thing for 5 minutes and then simply pressed the home button, switched off and back on and everything worked as it should. Cydia, Rock and unlock tested and working perfectly on the iPhone 3G.
I installed all 3 from the blackra1n app at the same time, maybe the “Post Install Log for sn0w” wouldn’t hang if I had installed separately but somebody has to try and verify. But at the end of the day this seems to be a harmless bug, the end result is the same.

Hi, worked exactly like the instructions said. Didn’t have to do a thing except reboot a few times.
My phone is now jailbroken and open to other networks! FYI this is an Australian iphone.
Make sure you keep shutting iTunes and iPhoto after you reboot, maybe this will help.
And make sure you pay this guy at least 5 bucks, this app is well worth it.
Hi, Ijust did the upgrade and it worked great until i turned phone of and on. Phone went into recovery Mode. I reran and it connected to itunes all was ok till I turned off and on and it went into recovery mode again. Any Ideas?

i have the original version of the iphone and when I downloaded and ran the 12th step, but not my problem is that I can’t get the iphone to read my new sim card with out it telling that i need to sync it to itunes…….also, when I try to figure out what is going on, it knocks out my wifi……is there something that I can do to fix this?

I have a 8gb 3G Iphone. I bought it to give to my wife for Christmas. It is locked to the O2 network. I am living in Cyprus and need to unlock it. About a month ago, I unlocked my own 3GS iphone with Blackra1n and it all went very smoothly and I now have an unlocked iphone. However, I’ve tried many times with this 3G iphone and after running blackra1n, I install Cydia and Snow, it all looks fine, until I put the Cyprus sim card in. I then get the recovery screen come up and it says “different sim detected. Please connect to itunes” which of course doesn’t solve the problem. The strange thing is, it seems to be picking up the Cyprus network on the top left hand corner, but it stays on the recovery screen and is unable to make or receive calls. I’ve tried rebooting several times. I’ve restored, updated the latest software from itunes. I’ve checked everywhere on the internet but I can’t seem to get any further. I’m now desperate as it looks like my wife will not be getting a Christmas present and heaven help meJ. I’d appreciate any help with this matter. Thank you.
Hi, I have an Iphone 2g and I ran blackra1n and it did work. I then installed Cydia and then got Bootneuter and have it looking exactly like your image above. I then restarted my phone and put my Tmobile sim card in and it says No SIM. Can someobody please help?
Just used Blackra1n to jailbreak my 3GS with 3.1.2,
Everything worked just like the tutorial said, But everytime I reboot the phone the plug into iTunes screen comes up and iTunes says it needs to be restored. But if I run Blackra1n again everything is fine.
I also used blacksn0w to unlock and have tethering set up. Everything works except when i reboot phone.
Will I have to run blackra1n everytime i want to reboot my phone? I tried using Pwnage tool first, but I never got any further than it looking for the ispw in the first step. It shows a button to browse for file, but won’t let me do anything and then I have to Force Quit it. I am running Mac 10.6.2

Hi Axel, thanks for the feedback. Just need to know what / when this issue of being in recovery mode after every reboot is or is not going to be resolved. It appears it may be just a matter of time before it is……….I hope so.

if ur iphone 2g was unlocked and not on 3.1.2. then all you needs to do is jailbreak it in order to unlock and thats it. at least that worked for me.

i have the original iphone without a sim card. nobody in my family has a sim card i can activate my phone with either. i have already updated my iphone to 3.1.2. are you telling me that the only way i can unlock it is if i go into the blackra1n app? how am i supposed to get to it if my phone is locked and i cant get past the “no SIM installed, insert a valid sim with no pin lock to activate iphone” screen. any help or ideas?

I installed only Cydia and was able to unlock with BootNeuter.
I have the same problem as kbill and others where I am getting “determining current settings” message constantly after flashing BootNeuter 2.1.

I have an IPhone 2G, and I just used the above steps to jailbreak/unlock. It all installs fine and Bootneauter runs and flashed, but then when I put a different sim card in, it just says Sim card not supported within iTunes.

1st attempt failed because after I press “make it rain” and the picture of GeoHot came up, the iTunes also pop up automatically. It gave a pop up message that I need to restore my iphone and press OK.
DONT PRESS OK, it will screwed up the process. INSTEAD, wait a while, the blackrain will automatically reboot the phone for us.
2nd attempt failed in the bootneuter. I got stucked in “determining current setting”. I believe the problem is caused by I put the sim card in the middle of the process.
On the 3rd attempt, I start from step 1, and did not put in my sim card after I am done with step 12. IT WORKS!

I have a new iphone 3gs, purchased in Dec 2009 and I have used blackra1n to unlock my old 2g and it works great, but the new one is bricking every time I rebot after an unlock. I have blackra1n and went through the same motions with my 2g on my 3gs and works fine till I try to get winterboard or anything else that requires a rebot, then brick mode everytime!
Any help woudl be great, I really just want to be able to customize my phone, not carring about it being able to be used on other carriers.

Hi, i have a 2g, followed all the steps correctly (i think), but after running the bootneuter my phone is now showing the carrier for the sim card (not at&t) and says to connect to itunes, different sim, and i can only make emergency calls (911, etc…)

Im running an iPhone 3GS on 3.1.2. Ive jailbroken and unlocked using black ra1n and sn0w and its currently running perfectly on T-Mobile. I can place calls and receive SMS messages as well as use the WiFi. My only problem is that when i connect the phone to iTunes to add music or anything else, iTunes says “The SIM card inserted does not appear to be supported.” Any suggestions??
Guys, I have successfully done the jailbreak.
I saw some post regarding the Cydia and Sn0w stuck at “Post Install Log for sn0w” during installation. It happened to me to, all I did was press the HOME button so it brings me back to the spring board and pressed blackra1n again and re-select Cydia and Sn0w and install it. Second time worked like a charm!

After I install cydia,Install bootneuter and set as per instruction and reboot on Iphone 2g with3.1.2. It seems to start without any issues
but when I insert tmobile sim it bring itunes icon and if I insert at&t sim it works. Any suggestion?’

All steps work and I can use any simcard to call, BUT, when I restart the Iphone it immediately goes into recovery mode and I have to re-do the whole process to get into the phone again. I have redone it numerous times, both using a mac book and a PC. Any ideas?

My iphone 2g was jailbroken using blackra1n. I didn’t realize I needed wifi to unlock the phone, so when the blackra1n icon appeared on my springboard and wouldn’t allow me to connect to it, I deleted the icon. OOPS! I have wifi in my house now, but I can’t get the icon back on my springboard. I’ve read this whole thread twice, and nothing has worked. I uninstalled itunes from my computer, re-installed a fresh one, reset my iphone as a new iphone, restored it through itunes and computer says “network connection error” after the restore looks like its finished. How can I get the blackra1n icon back? I’ve run it over and over. Nothing… Please help. I’ve been trying to unlock this phone for a month– I just wanna cry!

I got the original 2G Iphone. I followed all the steps; updated to 3.1.2, got the black rain app, got the Cydia app, got the BootNeuter app, I had my T-mobile card in and set the settings on boot neuter to what you said, and flashed it, it told me everything worked ok.
So, then it says “searching” where the logo and bars should be. So, I turn my phone off and on and the T-mobile logo comes up in the corner with some bars, my phone has a connect to itunes logo on the lock page and after the lock page its a number screen with a back arrow and a green button and it says something like “emergency call” and it flips through a bunch of different languages.
I tested it and it receives calls and can send them, however it can’t get to the ordinary appearance. When I plug it into Itunes, itunes says: “The sim card inserted in this phone does not appear to be supported.” I’ve tried it by inserting the sim card afterwards and it inevitably comes to this situation.

Im a paramedic and the reason i mention that is because all this computer lingo doesnt mean **** to me. i just got the new 3gs. previously i had a 3g that i jailbroke and unlocked using the blackra1n website. now that i have the 3gs..everytime i jailbreak it , it ends up in restore mode. all i see is the itunes logo with the usb cable. am i missing something? i had the 3.1.2 system but now since im restoring it big brother itunes is making me download there latest 3.2.3 version blah blah blah just want to tether!!aahhhhhhh

Two weeks ago, I unlocked an IPhone 3GS (3.1.2 (7D11) following the instructions on the tutorial and everything was ok.The phone is working perfectlly well. Today, I baught a second Iphone 3GS for my son, but I ran blacknw03 RC3 downloaded from blackra1n.com for windows, I don’t see the blackra1n.app on the springboard on the phone, I did NOT get any errors running the app, but nothing there, even rebooting didn’t fix it. Any ideas???
