It seems that GeoHot was quicker at releasing BlackRa1n RC2 than he thought. Originally, BlackRa1n RC2 was supposed to be out tomorrow but GeoHot said on Twitter that it was already available for download.

BlackRa1n RC2 can be downloaded from our iPhone Downloads section. The tutorial to jailbreak your iPhone using BlackRa1n remains the same.

I have to say that I have an iPod touch “3G” with 32 GB and it is a MC model.
blackra1n rc2 did not work. And it probably wasn’t Geohot’s intention to provide touch 3G users with an MC model with a jailbreak.

Nice! I just used it on my iphone 3g off of a fresh restore and it work great.
RC2 worked GREAT! I tried RC1 with no luck. Tried so many time and so many different ways and it never worked.
There really is no need for a guide for this. I just downloaded blackra1n to my desktop (Windows 7). Never put the .exe into WinXP compatibility mode or any other compatibility mode. Never stopped itunes or any of the services. Just ran the program and it worked first time on my iphone.

So, looks like another repeat of the first version. Works for some. Doesn’t work for others. Works for some after trying different ‘tricks’.
No ‘tricks’ should be needed. It’s like rolling the dice with his stuff. You may be lucky and end up with a good working 60 second jb.
Or you may get halfway lucky and be one of the people that get it to work after 3 or 4 days of trying different tricks and get one to finally work.
Or you may just be stuck with a brick.
I will wait to roll the dice myself.
Geo is a genius but I do feel he needs to slow down and get things right. If he would take more time he could put out non buggy exploits without a doubt. But rushing only leads to issues.
I am also disturbed that 2 critical questions need to be answered by him that I and others have asked but he chooses to ignore and not answer.
If he is busy tweeting with those BR has worked for but does not answer to those with issues, what else can one conclude? He’s there. Tweeting as you ask, but he seems to only respond back to those patting him on the back.
The two questions are :
he tweeted that if you already ran the 1st version you do not need to run this version. However, what about the MANY that did use the 1st version and are bricked or have ‘issues’? Do we run the 2nd version and if so what steps must be taken first?
I can already imagine how crazy it will be as people post their 100 ways they tried to do a 2nd try with this new version on a device that the 1st version is on but is buggy as can be.
How many will try everyhing they can and still be stuck? How many will get lucky? How many will spend the next week deleting stuff and reinstalling fresh stuff and restoring and etc only to see a repeat of the first version issues?
Why won’t George address these questions? Why ignore them????
Several people reported that the link downloaded the 1st version not the new one. I used his direct link and downloaded it and I got the 1st version as well. Deleted and repeated numerous times with different computers and browsers. Still only get the original version.

Well, he is busy Tweeting away, yet still has not answered the very critical questions that many have.
In fact, he is very obviiously ignoring anybody asking questions. he has no problem responding to people offering him money or patting him on the back, but the fact remains he asked for and took money to do Blackra1n. he rushed it out to market with more bugs then an insect convention(appears it is a ditto with this new version as well as I am seeing the exact same posts…..works great for some, others trying tricks and etc..)…..and now he flatly refuses to even acknowledge any issues or even respond to those asking. How many people used BR1 and had issues?
Wow, that many? Yet he doesnt care and will not answer what should be very simple questions, but questions that are critical to MANY people that used BR1 and now have issues.
How he can ASK FOR and then TAKE money, but then ignore the many issues and people that PAID him, is something he can talk about with his lawyer. I will not stand for this, especially since I did pay him and have begged him for answers pointing out that MANY have the exact same issues/questions…..and what does he do? IGNORE, IGNORE, IGNORE…Now I see him tweeting saying he is not messing with an unlock…said he couldnt do it for whatever reason. Yet somebody offered him $10k to do it and guess what his response was? Make the offer legit and he will do it and then claimed it would be ‘easy/simple to do’ and he’ll happily take the 10grande!!
So, there he is, alive and tweeting, asking for donations, responding tho those that BR worked for while ignoring those it didnt work for and now he is looking to get $10k to do an unlock he said would be ‘simple’??
This guys needs a wake up call and I will do my best to ensure he gets one….lets see how good his lawyer really is.
Hell yea I am peeved….I mean if the guy was busy or had a legit reason for all this I could understand it, but there is NO LEGIT REASON to ask for money to do something, have people pay you, do a lousy job and then leave your ‘customers with serious issues’ as you ignore every issue while asking for more money to do something else.
Why was the unlock claimed to be almost impossible for him to do, but as soon as somebody offered $10k, it got his atention immediately and the suddenly impossible unlock is now ‘simple’?
These actions are very disturbing to me. He took money and rushed out 2 BUGGY pieces of software that bricked how many thousands of devices and he will not even attempt to fix the issues, or respond to those having issues and is instead going to start a new exploit as soon as this person forks over the $10k?
If anybody is dumb enough to pay this guy $10k in advance, they are nuts, imo.
What will they get? Another Buggy POS that he takes money for and then refuses to ackowledge the issues or the thousands effected by these issues?
GEO- FINISH THE JOB YOU STARTED and get it right before you take money for other ‘jobs’. YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED the 1st 2 jobs and I suggest doing so before taking more money from people.
Since he obviously doesnt care that he took money and caused issues for many, many people and he thinks his lawyer is so outstanding, I think it is time to teach him about Karma and we’ll see just how good his lawyer really is…
What he has done is simply horrible. I am thrilled for those who used BR and it worked great for..seriously…..But it harmed more people then it helped and he simply does not care.
He can ignore for now..he can not care for now…. but I suspect he wont be able to ignore the legal issues that are likely heading his way.

–QUESTION–
I just bought an iTouch 3g “MC” model. When I installed iTunes, it asked to update my iTouch to the latest version.. well I did. Now I want to unlock this thing, blackra1n rc1 said you cannot update with itunes or it will not work because you cannot downgrade.. so am i fuct? or will this rc2 do the trick? or do i have to wait for blacksn0w? rc3?

Greg your still tethered as far as I know but just wait for another update that might change
I used the Pwnage tool a few weeks ago and it messed my phone up. Cydia didn’t completely install and has caused me some headaches. If I do a restore back to 3.1.2 should I be able to use Blackra1n to break it. I have a 3GS that was originall purchased with 3.0. Or are there any other suggestions.

i recently purchased a itouch 8gb 3rd generation 3.1.2.. i have gone through many blogs and also viewd a video in youtube saying tat blackra1n rc2 is a untethrered version but i have still doubts on it.. if any1 having model stating with MC n is working even after rebooting plzz let me knnw it wil be very helpful for me or should i wait for some more time for geo to release a untethered version….. @saijjan – I have exactly the same model as you, I have tried RC3, still tethered. You’ll be able to use the Jailbreak fine, but when you turn off the iTouch/iPhone, it will come up with a usb sign. Then you will need to run the program again..being quite annoying.

Hey, I need some help. I have an unlocked 2G iPhone that was on version 3.0.1. I messed around and downloaded 3.1 and now my phone just has the itunes logo and cable on the screen, and on itunes it says that my SIM card inserted does not appear to be supported.
Is there any way I can revert back to my previous version? I think its still unlocked because my provider name is still in the upper left, and I’m still able to get incoming phone calls and texts. I just can’t use it with itunes, and I obviously need to be able to do that.
I would GREATLY appreciate any advice you may have. I’ll pay the $20 whether or not I need it unlocked – I just want it working again. Thanks.

I jailbroke my phone when it was 3.1.2 and it did so great but dumb me I went to itunes and it said there was an update 3.1.3 and I downloaded and installed it. Well the jailbreak is gone and I can’t get blackra1n to work again!!!! Please can someone help me……..
Brenda, I had the same thing happen to me when I upgraded from 3.0 to 3.1.2. I re-downloaded blackra1n and made it rain again. At that point, my iphone was good to go. Worked like a charm…

You two are just douche bags, geohot offers his program free of charge and only asks that if you like it then please donate……do you understand DONATE, very simple…give if you want don’t if you don’t want to, either way geohot will still be making jailbreaking software and I hope that if he could find a way to figure out who is downloading his wares like the two of you that he would be able to ban your phones or ipods and also at the same time screw them for ever.

I have a JB 3gs and I have followed all your intructions but after I download BR rc2 and the Itunes logo goes away and your GeoHot logo comes on it say recovery and then wait for reboot. That’s where its stays and never reboots up or it then just goes back to the Itunes Logo?
It worked once for about a week great when I did this and then it just stopped and went to the Itunes Logo
Any Suggestions.

Okay, here’s my situation: I have a 2g iPhone that is jailbroken/unlocked. I also have a 3G iPhone that I just jailbroke/unlocked. Now I want to take my SIM card (from another carrier) out of my 2g and put it in my 3G. But when I try to do this, the 3G phone sees the SIM card, but doesn’t search to find the network/carrier. The SIM card works just fine in my 2g – am I missing something? On the 3G I had to restore back to 3.1.2 before I could jailbreak it. Any suggestions?
