Waiting time is over! The long-awaited BlackRa1n jailbreak by GeoHot is now available for download.
So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n. As far as donations go, they are much appreciated, but not until after blackra1n works for you. I never ask for donations before the tool is released.
Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.

There are a few important things to note about BlackRa1n:
- BlackRa1n can jailbreak OS 3.1 and 3.1.2
- BlackRa1n is for Windows only so far. If you’re using Windows 7 , run BlackRa1n as an admin with “Windows XP Compatibility” mode by enabling it from the “Properties” tab
- BlackRa1n does not hacktivate your iPhone, which means you must be using an official carrier
- BlackRa1n does not unlock the iPhone
- iPhone 3G and 3GS users should not upgrade to 3.1.2 if they want to keep their unlock. You will have to wait for an updated version of PwnageTool if you want to unlock the latest OS.
- the iPod Touch 3G is supported but it is a tethered jailbreak which means you’ll have to use BlackRa1n everytime you want to boot your iTouch
This is the RC1 of BlackRa1n and it is still a little buggy so be careful.
I think it’s worth highlighting again that if you want to keep your unlock, you should NOT update to 3.1.2. Simply wait for the Dev Team to update PwnageTool.

FYI, I upgraded with windows 7 without running as admin fine.
For me it worked perfectly.

As we have all been advised that once they came from the facory w/ this software they would no be jailbreakable. Since the “hole” was in the 3.0 software. Did you find a new “hole”?
I’m on a Mac but I’m running Parallels with WIndows XP. Blackra1n begins to run but then crashes. Is there any way/trick to get it to run in Parallels or do I just need to wait for the Mac version to be released?

unfortunately, i have updated to 3.1 (3GS) from a factory coming 3.0.1. And then, i have succesfully jailbroken my phone with blackrain! So the answer is two yes, for the two last comment. But i dont know how to unlock after jailbreak, but i think Sebastien wil let u know soon.
reporting, after blackra1n winscp can see root. I guess iPhone Explorer can’t go root due to 3.1 stock.
Just finished and ran in to some small problems. It work and works well!!!! Awesome! I did 1g, 3g and 3gs all at once. Blackra1n doensnt work on windows 64 bit very well. I tried! It works on 32 XP, Vista 32 and Windows 7 32 fine!
1. upgrade to 3.1.2 firmware in iTunes..
2. Plug in ur device to ur pc. ( ipod touch 1g,2g,3g,iphone,3g,3gs…)
3. Go to http://www.blackra1n.com and download the blackra1n application. Click on the little windows icon below the website.
3. Start blackra1n.exe on your pc ***1
4. Click on “Make it RA1N”
4. Wait for it to reboot automatically
5. You will see GeoHot’s face right away ***2
6. Open blackra1n app on your device and choose Cydia OR icy OR Rock
7. Done
***1 on windows 7:
copy blackra1n.exe to c:\
run blackra1n as adminitrator
***2 Cable with iTunes on phone (if it takes longer then 30 seconds)
You need to close blackra1n
Hold down the power and home buttom until it shuts off.
Press the power button and boot your phone again
Start at #3 again
Note: the jailbreaking part only takes 10 seconds. If its taking longer then its stuck.
It worked for me on iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1 already installed on it. No my problem is that I can NOT install the cracked application by syncing with iTune! Anyone can help me with this? I tried AppSync for OS 3.1 and Installd but none of them worked and gave me errors!

Is it safe to update my unlocked 2g iPhone then use blackrain or I will loose my unlock?
If u update to 3.1.2 u WILL lose ur unlock and cant unlock it anymore. The program jailbreak only!
@Fer: The 2G unlock is permanent if done once and baseband is flashed. So don’t worry if you have a 2G, you can use 3.1 and Pwnage Tool

@weez and others looking to unlock 3.1.x BB 05.11.07
at this time, there is no unlocking solution for BB 05.11.07. ultrasn0w only works with BB 04.26.08. Don’t expect an unlocking solution to appear anytime soon.
blackra1n is only a jailbreaking solution and is limited to iPhones with official carrier sims. If you are using an unofficial carrier sim, you will need to wait for hacktivated custom 3.1.2 ispw after the new PwnageTool is released. That is the ONLY way to preserve your current unlock and hacktivation.
So this will work with the iPod Touch 2G, yes? I’m sorry to ask because there’s no mention of the 2G iPod Touch… I’m already on 3.1.2 OS.
My phone is unlocked and jailbroken…if I download this will it screw up my phone?
mine is Carrier unlocked. so i’m now free from the network, so my 3GS is free from needing any “unlock” solution?

I am on Windows 7 and I have tried all different stuff (including starting blackra1n fro C:\ as Admin) on iPhone 3G.
Well, it does not work. iPhone gets into DFU mode standard screen and no picture of geohot, and thats all.
Works great and fast but no root access from iphone explorer ???

Hey guys I’m having problems getting it jail broken…I am running 3.1.2 with 5.11.07 BB and it seems like it is running fine but when it says that it is done and wait for the reboot my Iphone seems to get stuck with a black but semi illuminated screen and will not reboot. If i manually reboot it it turns back on but it is not jailbroken….what is the problem here and more importantly does anyone know how to fix it

My only problem was getting rid of the fw crap. Even after using it to change back to 3.0, itunes would tell me 3.0 was the newest FW. I had to put the phone into dfu mode to force a restore. itunes would not restore otherwise and kept giving error message. Otherwise blackrain worked fine for me.
What am I doing wrong??? I try to use blackra1n to jailbreak, but every time I press “make it rain” all I get is “entering recovery mode” and a phone that needs to be recovered thru iTunes. I have tried and tried over the last few days… is it because I have restored my settings and existing apps first? should I use blackra1n before I add back my information? any help would be greatly appreciated.
[FIXED] 3G iPhone 3.1.2 Stucked
After trying for several times my 3G iPhone was stuck at “reading”, so I just opened the task manager and closed ALL Apple services. Then worked fast as hell.

and i did try it but it got stuck on running…. and my iphone showed the usb going to itunes saying connect to itunes
For all the people that has been getting stuck on the recovery screen (usb to itunes pic) all you have to do id follw alekz advice open task amnager and close ALL apple programs then it will work just fine!!!!!!! THANKS aleckz
New version of helper.bat: It walks you throug the entire process in live time. It auto kills all processes that need to be killed and sets permissions for c:/blackra1n.exe for full control. I hope this helps

Hey … Im not reallly good with the unlock iphone stuff ok mine its a 3.1 version and I want to unlock with my compagny fido cuz now i have Rogers … and my problem is i have to downloaad what to unlock my phone ?
1) Update iTunes to latest
2) Update to latest firmware (3.1.2) through iTunes
3) run blackra1n
4) install cydia and black sn0w (unlock) through the black rain app installed by blackra1n.
5) uninstall blackra1n app
bingo… I’m on Orange in the UK and the unlock (blacksn0w) works just as well as ultrasn0w. Jailbreak was a breeze.

I’m running an unlocked jailbroken iPhone 3G on firmware 3.0 I’m thinking about upgrading to 3.12 but don’t want to loose my tethering. Anyone had any luck doing so. Also, please check out iFace guys, it’s a virtual business card that you can share with anyone for free. Very hot. You can create and rotate your own icon pictures. It’s called iFace. Just loaded it and awesome. I’m not spamming it, I’m just simply sharing what I did, so you guys are on your own.

just tried this and i got the logo as expected then the phone rebooted and then i just got the apple plug into computer logo,
i tunes then said phone in recovery mode,
only way to get it working again was to restore with apple software.
any ideas?
I have a 32gb 3gs os3.1.2, I opened iTunes then synced so it made a clean backup file,I then removed the backup file from it’s location and keep it in my documents incase I need it in the future,I then synced my phone again,hit restore to factory settings. After the phone restored I made it a new phone instead of installing from a previous backup file. Once that was done I downloaded the blackra1n file, closed iTunes, started blackra1n, hit make it rain and hey prestoe everthing works fine,still on o2 but I’m contracted so the unlock I’m not that fussed on…
I’m in the UK running windows xp…hope this helps people….;-)

black rain is the sickest program ever . jailbreak and unlock 3.1.2 even though people say it doesnt work it does. takes less then a minute for both soooooooooooo sick

I just bought my 1st Ipod Touch 3G. I ran the Blackrain on Windows 7 and it worked fine. I installed Cydia. So this morning before I went to work I decided to install the Boss Wallpaper app. It installed and it said to Reboot. Which I did then it said to connect to Itunes. When I connected it to Itunes it went into Recovery mode and it reinstalled everything back to factory settings. So is this suppose to happen with 3.1.2? Or I should wait for some other app to come out before jailbreaking.

i have either the 1st or 2nd gen i touches idk which ever one they made right before the one with the volume rocker on the side and it has the 2.2.1 (5H11) firmware on it but i have just downloaded the 3.1.2 (7D11) ipsw firmware off the internet for it and it just needs to be put on it and i also have one of the new i touches with the 3.1.2 (7D11) Firmware already installed. I Went to BlackRa1n.com to download the program for my computer with windows xp. It Downloaded fine and i clicked on it which brought up the small window that says make it rain so i clicked on that and it came up with an error window saying “blackra1n.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close” with the send error report button or close. I’m not sure why its not working does anybody have any tips for me?

Jailbroke two iphones without any initial problems, but eventually they both locked up completely and required a full recovery (which wiped out everything on the phone). One quit working after using a South Park app, and the other quit working after using the Internet Tethering feature (which initially worked for several days before dying). Backup your phone before jailbreaking it. Any advice on what may have caused these problems would be appreciated.

ok so i first downloaded the blackrain. then i ran it. the box came up saying make it rain. i clicked it and it sayed entering recovery mode. then it sayed done, wait to reboot. so i waited but the screen was just black with the backlight on. i tried it all over again and the same thing happened. so i held the home button and the power button until the apple came up, then i let go of just the power button. the usb cable and itunes pic came up and i was still holding the home button waiting to see the geo dude’s face but nothing happened. can someone help me out????
