Some good news for everyone waiting for the release of BlackRa1n, the latest tool that will jailbreak all iDevices. GeoHot, the genius developer behind BlackRa1n posted this picture on Twitter a few minutes ago, swearing it was no Photoshop job.
This image shows the RC1 (Release Candidate) of BlackRa1n running on a PC. So that’s an extra good news for everyone out there who doesn’t have access to a Mac to run PwnageTool.
GeoHot had given himself an ETA of 2 days which got delayed by the release of iPhone OS 3.1.2. Even though BlackRa1n was confirmed to work on 3.1.2, GeoHot still had to make a few tweaks to it.
The jailbreak community has been eagerly waiting for BlackRa1n for days now and we’re all hoping for a full release of this “miracle jailbreak” sometimes today or later this weekend.

Can’t wait for it. I’m new to jailbreaking though. Is Cydia going to be bundled with this jailbreak because I thought Dev Team created Cydia? Am i wrong?

Welcome to the jailbreak world
Cydia will come with the jailbreak as it is kind of a default app.
Cydia wasn’t created by the Dev Team. It was created by Saurik. The Dev Team comes up with all the jailbreaks and unlocks, along with a few other hackers, such as GeoHot.

This is great news. Does anyone know why these people like geohot don’t charge for their service. What could possible drive them to take the time to do all of this?
YEESSS!!! im new to jailbreak too! so hopefully like they say this time jailbreak will be really simple and easy so i dont mess anything up with my ipod! Cant wait til he finally releases it!

Hackers don’t care about money. They care about challenge and fighting against what they think is wrong. In this case, many hackers think that what Apple does (restricting the device) is wrong, which is why they spend so much time and energy into hacking the hell out of the iPhone.

By the way, he’s young, and sometimes the succes is enough for young people, and its a real succes for him to outrun Dev-Team…im not sure outrun is the correct word, but i hope u understand.
And an other thing, it’s a bit risky to charge for an illegal hack, i think

I’m new to this whole jailbreaking thing. uhh…can you jailbreak the ipod without wifi connection? because i dont have a router to hook it up for wifi.
also, whats the difference between cydia and installer or installous?
and one final question, does jailbreaking the ipt3 comes with ALL NEWEST GAMES AND APPS?

Hey John,
You can jailbreak without wifi connection but you will need wifi to update Cydia and be able to download apps and themes from Cydia.
Cydia is like the App Store on your iPhone, except it is for jailbreak applications. It is installed by default when you jailbreak. Installer was like Cydia but it doesn’t exist anymore. You may have heard of Icy too, which is like Cydia, but not as reliable. Installous allows you to download cracked applications for free (it’s like downloading Mp3 music, it’s illegal).
No, jailbreaking doesn’t come with anything but Cydia, which then allows you to download jailbreak apps and do whatever you want (like installking Installous and steal apps).

I m desperately awaitng for this… yesterday was the firs time i tried to learn how to upgrade, and unfortunately since the latest was the 3.1.2 software, i errenously restored my phone on the same.. i have a edge one which is why i used the iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, now all i see is a usb cable sign pointing to itunes, when i go to itunes it says that my Sim is not supported, i am completeley trapped, now as i understand since my phone is restored on iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, only blackra1n can help me, please let me know if there are any other work arounds… (this is the first time i tried and i guess i have fallen into trap) any help will be appreciated.. thanks.

I’m also very impatient to try this (awesome) jailbreaking tool, but I’m ready to give Geohot a few more days, if it means extra-safety, and not having to restore, and re-jailbreak, because he had to fix a little bug in his software.
I was careless when I upgraded to 3.1, so I’m not being impatient now ^^

I am new to the iPhone and to jailbreaking also. Just want to tell all who put the time and effort into jailbreaking thanks. I don’t understand how y’all are able to do the things you do to hack these things but I am gracious to you. We purchase these phones so we shouldn’t have to be bound by apples retrictions
According to his Twitter post( which was posted at 5 am, which goes to show he never gets any sleep) he was able to make it work with ipt2 early this morning and today will do the same using ipt3. so hopefully that shouldn’t take too long and we should have blackra1n today. Though I have heard speculation that it is supposed to have an actual eta of sunday.. But again that’s just speculation. You can click on bulletholes9 and follow the blackra1n link for when it is released, I’ll be posting a how to on my site, but hopefully there won’t be much of a how to if it is as easy to jailbreak as geohot says it is!

Crap, sorry. I misspoke. I thought you meant jalbreak. Unlock depends if you do not have modem firmware 05.11.07.
Unlock = Change carrier. Very unlikely to be successful enabling with blackra1n.
Jailbreak = Change internal apple OS, like 3rd party apps. Likely to be successful with blackra1n.
