There is a new simple hack that allows owners of a first gen iPhone to enable MMS on their iPhone 2G. Your iPhone has to be jailbroken to enable MMS. If you don’t know how to jailbreak your iPhone, please read this.
Now go to Cydia and look for the application called ActivateMMS2G from the iSpazio source. Install and reboot your iPhone and bingo!
Very important: this hack only works on OS 3.0 and 3.0.1. Do not install on 2.X or 3.1. Thanks @Stilgar702 for the tip!

will this work on a iphone 2G 2.2.1. And do I need to delete swirly mms? I been reading that swirly makes this not work?
Iphone 2G is the iphone 3G.. it means “second generation.” Haven’t tried it though I upgrade to the 3GS. I’m sure there will be a jailbreak eventually for it and then I’ll be in heaven with all the backgrounding available on that phone with soo much free memory. YAY!
In this reference 2G isn’t referring to the network (yes I know Iphone 3g means 3G network….) in this case though, 2G means second generation because there isn’t even a 2G network. It’s just edge and 3G.
Ok! Idiot wend every you see any post or comment about a 2G iPhone that alway mean First generation not second. Every body know that 2G is edge, and the hack that you are reading is for the first iPhone. If you try this on a 3G or 3GS iPhone you will F-up your phone. Idiot.
sorry just to follow up, I was referring to the top 2 comments. And my conclusion is that this article is for the iphone 3g just to clear some things up.
I ran the cydia app to enable mms on my 2g and my phone now is stuck in a constant reboot…. argggg…. now what?

Not correct – this is for the original iphone [silver back] which is frequently referred to as the iPhone 2G.
The 3G automatically has mms on 3.0
Yah now my 3G is in constant reboot also! I cant restore until i figure out how to get my pictures off!

People need to seriously read. If you are wondering why your 3g is just staying in a constant boot or recovery mode, its because this hack is for iPhones on the edge network or 2nd generation iPhones. This is not for 3g users. 3g users need to just chill. this hack enables mms for 2g iPhones that otherwise would not get the feature when mms is turned on by AT&T. if your 3g is bricked because you didn’t read. then you have to restore your iPhone to the factory settings via iTunes
I downloaded this for my iPhone 3G and it completely crashed! Now I cant even get it to load on iTunes! Someone please help.
I tried it on my iphone 2g but everytime i try to send the mms it fails.
I tried this on my 2g Fw2 and it crashed I had to update to Fw3. I haven’t tried again since I’m not jailbroken. I lost all my files since I couldn’t get in the phone at all.
I have a 2G iphone is loaded with 3.0 and jailbroken. I installed the ActivateMMS2G and added the carrier settings and rebooted. Nothing seems to work. I still don’t have the camera next to the text window. WHat am I doing wrong??
Well, it seems i can answer my own question and maybe help someone else!!
Reboot is very important! hold down the Power button and Home until the phone turns off. Do not use the slider to turn it off. WHen you see the slider, continue to hold the button and it will shut down. I have an unlocked and jailbroken 2G upgraded to 3.0. Carrier is Tmobile and I have the data package with texting. I have been at this all day and it works now. Cellular Data APN internet2.voicestream.com
