UPDATE - iPhone 3.0 jailbreak and unlock tutorials now available:

That was quick! Apparently the Dev Team already got a hold of the new iPhone 3.0 SDK and confirmed that you will be able to jailbreak iPhone firmware 3.0 when it’s available.
With all of the great stuff lined up for us with the 3.0 OS that Apple described today, many 3G owners may find themselves with itchy update fingers. If you find yourself with access to the 3G IPSW for 3.0 via the iPhone Dev Center program, and you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to that official IPSW. You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.
And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.
Translation: if you have any interest in preserving your ability to use YellowSn0w, wait for the GO from the Dev Team to update to 3.0!

Yes you can get the new 3.0 firmware already. If you are registered as a developer, you can download the firmware right now. I already loaded it up on my iphone.
Oh, and by the way the new firmware requires that you download the new version of Itunes so you may want to upgrade it now and get it out of the way.

also even if you were to get the firmware I wouldnt advise upgrading unless your a developer.
The iphone requires connecting to itunes in order to activate the iphone. If you dont register you iphones ID with your developers you wont be able to activate the iphone. This firmware checks if your iphone is registered in the developer program before activating the phone to be used.

i think a lot of us are wondering “should i mess with my ipod/iphone?” my 2.2 it’s working so good like never before but i just watched that video on apple website and i gotta admit i can’t wait to apple release the new 3.0 and i want to know how to jailbreak the ipod or iphone OS 3.0 Dev team Stand By!!!!! I got a good feeling about this, just one thing i can’t get it usually OS Upgrades either for iphone or ipod touch was for free now if you don’t jailbreak you gonna have to pay $9.95 or something in order to upgrade your ipod touch (that really got me sick) a lot of people gonna jailbreak their iphones/ipods now in order to save some cash besides there’s nothing that a jailbroken iphone/ipod can’t provide that a straight one (i don’t know if straight is the right word but whatever..) OS 3.0 is coming and it’s just a matter of time, all we can do is wait, oh yeah does anyone know about the Need for Speed Undercover for Ipod/iphone? i’ve been waiting since last year and i all saw was just promises…

Sence 3.0 has been jailbroken im sure the devteam will find a way to activate it (like 2.0) soon. Also, if anyone wants 3.0 for the 3g email me at kevinconeil@yahoo.com (im not a dev, i found it on the internet, suck that apple!) but yes this will lock your phone into an ibrick. So be careful!

Firmware 3.0 won’t be available until this summer so you’ve got time to think about that…
If you choose to restore from new phone (which I recommend), you shouldn’t have any problems with jailbreak apps.

Hey ya I’m totally siked for this 3.0 software especially the landscape text. Just wondering though will you be able to jailbreak and unlock it using winpwn or quickpwn. I have to unlock it because I don’t want to pay the 60$ for the survice plan
I know that iPhones have to have their IDs registered with the developer program so that they can be activated on 3.0 OS, but does that hold true for iTouchs? If I update my iTouch, will I still be able to sync it with iTunes?

Well I am not a developer either but I got access to the iPod Touch 2G 3.0 Beta and it works great and I put it also on my iPhone 2G and it stayed unlocked and activated because I updated it and iPod Touch 1G works flawless too just that I have to disconnect my net to sync it but i have a 3G running 2.2.1 with firmware 2.28.00 which I do not want to update because of the unlock but I have the firmwares for all.

If you downloaded the newest firmware with the 2.30 baseband and turned your previously unlocked iphone 3g into an ibrick, is there any way out there to unlock the phone again?

OK, I’m up and running the 3.0 and it is much faster then FW 2.0. Its added a bunch of new fetures but we still need the jailbreak. Teathering works great on it once u take the time to unlock it. MMS still doesnt work on the 3.0 bc its still a beta and ATT has to enable it first. So if you want to fork out the extra $10+ from a Dev member for a few new features i dont recommend it. It still has sum bugs and isn’t worth upgrading. I had to update but after i did its not wrth it. Wait until June for the final release then jailbreak. I wish they wouldnt release the new beta firmwares so soon. They are just trying to build a hype, which Apple is notorious for. If u have any questions about 3.0 e-mail me: bagekfidel@yahoo.com

I came across this blog. Just to clear a few things up. The 3.0 Software is fully functioning, Bluetooth Stereo, MMS, Landscape Messaging, Copy,Paste, Sportlight and more. If your copy is not working it is probably because you downloaded a corrupted torrent, or you did not call ATT to have them switch your plan to a REGULAR UNLIMITED instead of an IPHONE UNLIMITED plan which you have to do right now to get mms working because all the technisions are trained to say one thing and that is the iphone does not support MMS tell them they are lieing and to switch your plan and mms will work as soon as you get off the phone

yellowsn0w uses a bug in the baseband. The 3.0 update includes an update for the baseband which sounds like it currently breaks yellowsn0w. So if you use the update from apple you will lose the ability to use yellowsn0w.
They will be updating the pwnage tool software to create custom iPhone firmware files that enables the update without updating the baseband and thus preserves yellowsn0w.
At least that is what their statement means, if they (can) actually do it is another matter.
Here’s my question:
If you upgrade to iPhone 3.0 with quickpwn, does it still require a dev Id? If so, is there any way that doesn’t? Or do you have to pay apple the 99 bucks to be a dev?
Russian hacker Vortex (iphoneapps.ru) has released a beta version of a 3.0 Jailbreak (supporting firmware 3.0 beta 2 only). It is packaged in the Dev Team’s windows Quickpwn software and reportedly works on the iPhone 1st gen, iPhone 3g, and iPod Touch 1st gen. It unfortunately does not install Cydia instead it only installs Icy.

2-Use Quickpwn 3.0 Beta and select Jailbreak ONLY. when finished the phone will be jailbroken and screen is in pink color waiting for activation ..close iTunes.
3-Open iUtilites if some error show or ask for any thing iqnore it and select (String Editor) a new windo will open then look for the CHANGE SYSTEM VERSION..CHANGE it to 2.2 and Type in the space Below it 5G77 buid 5G77 click ok… restart iPhone and your system version is now changed in iPhone to 2.2
4-Connect to iTunes and activate.iTunes will activate any version below 3.0 for non DEV as long as you have inserted the correct sim card.
5-back to iUtilities and redo process by typing the correct version for 3.0 build 7A25g then restart.
Do a fresh update or restore >>

Guys, iPod touch has bluetooth internal chip, that’s already proved (google it) perhaps one day I’ll use my headset nokia bh-501 without the adapter

Thank you Salim for the nice trick. I have been wondering , if you use the option “Change System Version” on “iUtilities” from 2.1.1 5H11 (already jailbroken and unlock with baseband 2.28.00) to 2.2.0 5g77, install a software, then return to 2.2.1 5H11 without flashing the baseband to 2.30.03 ?
I mean is it safe to go from jailbroken,unlocked 2.2.1 to 2.2 press “GO” and convert back to 2.2.1 the same why while perserving the 2.28.00 baseband?

The baseband is flashed while restoreing or updating and has nohing o do with iUtilities trick,

If you do that,iTunes will update the current Baseband in the ipsw. You can only use Pwnage tools to do custome firmware without baseband update (DevTeam way)

No, the sim does not have to be in the phone, however, it needs to be in there to activate it.
So if you jailbreak the current software can you still upgrade 3.0 when it comes out without ruining your phone

If you upgrade to 3.0, you should not lose any apps.

Anyone know if the jailbreak will “unlock” the voice command feature that the 3gs has? Also, is there or will there be a way to track the iphone if it is stolen like is available for the iphones with mobile me without actually having mobile me?
If I will update my iphone to 3.0, will it go back to its brick state? It happened to me when I updated to 2.2.1 and have to pay for the unbricking. Hope someone can have some inputs on this.

Its almost impossible to brick an iPhone now, so you shouldn’t have to worry about bricking it. If you use yellowsn0w to unlock your iPhone, DO NOT UPDATE YET. Updating will update your baseband, which could make it impossible to unlock it. ultrasn0w should be released on Friday, which will allow for unlocking of all devices (except the iPhone 3GS).

I recommend redsnow. It works like a champ. upgrade your phone to 3.0, Backup your current phone setup and restore the phone to factory settings. you will lose everything. Leave iphone plugged in and hold down the shift button and it will beging to restore your prior settings but wipe out your old winterboard. If you do not wipeout your old winterboard, your apps will not function properly because some only function with the 2.2.2 jailbreak. Open redsnow and follow the instructions. I jailbroke mine in 5 minutes.

Again, any updates to 3G S??? Its good that as soon as you connect it to the computer it lets you use everything except for the modem( calls and msgs), but without that and jailbreak I still need to carry my old Iphone. Anyone knows how to activate even if its not jailbroken???

I used redsnow and it worked but now i cant get my phone to start up. it was fine till I tried to install an app for MMS from Cydia, & when i hit reboot the device stalled & froze. Now when i turn it on i just get the apple logo nothing more.If anyone can help that would be great.
Now when i get it to turn on it looks like it’s going to reboot but then restarts again & just keeps doing it over & over.
