iPhone OS 2.2 Problems Run Rampant

Users, in droves, continue to report a bevy of issues after the update to iPhone OS 2.2. Among the most serious and widespread problems: disappearing applications (both Apple’s and third-party), loss of WiFi connectivity, loss of 3G or EDGE signal strength and an inability to sync with iTunes.

Aurora Feint II: The Arena adds asynchronous multiplayer, in-game messaging

Our good friends at Massively got an opportunity that turned us green with envy — they got to sit down with the devs of Aurora Feint, one of our favorite iPhone games, and see how its fulfilling the “MMO” promise they’ve been offering up since it first debuted on the App Store. The new game is called Aurora Feint II: The Arena, and while it doesn’t exactly offer real-time MMO gameplay, it does let players compete with ghosts — the game will record what you or your friend plays, and then offer up that re-play as an opponent. There’s also a new “Tavern” feature which will let players leave messages to each other from right in the game.

First Look: Cronk for iPhone / iPod touch

This game from Cronk Games, Inc. features a train of boulders of different colors moving around a path. Your job as Cronk the Caveman is to toss boulders of the same color to get three or more boulders of the same color in a row. When you do this, those boulders disappear. If you can eliminate all of the boulders in a given path and save Cronk’s village, you gain points and move to a higher level of play.

UK smacks Apple for another misleading iPhone commercial

We figured Apple would’ve learned its lesson after the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority banned those “the real internet” iPhone commercials, but it looks like Steve’s back in detention — the ASA just ruled that another ad claiming that the iPhone is “really fast” is also misleading enough to be pulled.

Bluwiki receives cease-and-desist order from Apple

Apple has allegedly sent a cease-and-desist order to the public Wiki site Bluwiki.com, demanding the removal of postings from users that were trying to figure out how to write software that could sync media, from sources other than iTunes, onto iPhones and iPod touch devices running the latest software, according to MacBlogz.

EFF slams Apple over Bluwiki cease & desist

A recent move on Apple’s part to quash discussion on the iTunesDB file ñ a database that governs playable media on an iPod ñ has been found to conflict with free speech rights. Slashdot reports that since the bluwiki site merely featured discussion on the subject of whether the iTunesDB file could be reverse engineered, after a recent hashing mechanism update foiled previous efforts for the new iP…

Apple Introduces iPhone 3G Gift Card, Lets You Give The Gift Of iPhone

Now that signing on the dotted line is required in order to purchase an iPhone, giving one as a gift this Christmas could become complicated. Thankfully, those looking to give the gift of an iPhone this year may yet be in luck. Apple has created a special iPhone 3G Gift Card which can be used to buy an iPhone 3G at any Apple Retail Store.

Why Is Apple iPhone Push Notification Still Missing?

The latest iPhone 2.2 operating system fixes many things, but something is still missing: Push notification services. Once again, Apple has missed the opportunity to enable push notification in a new update, which is specially bad after they failed to meet their self-imposed September deadline. That makes it almost two months late now. So what’s the problem? Is the cause just a technical glitch or maybe there are other hidden, last-minute reasons behind it?

ZeptoPad 2.0 Whiteboard iPhone App Shows Live-Updating Web Interface, PDF Export

It’s just a demo right now, but Ryo Shimizu’s ZeptoPad 2.0 whiteboard app looks pretty promising. We already love collaborative drawing apps like Netsketch, but Ryo’s whiteboard adds a couple of interesting tweaks—the ability to watch the whiteboard live via a web interface or on what looks like a local client, and then save everything to PDF when you’re finished.

iHangman gives you instant, classic entertainment on the go

If you’re looking for a quick “pick up and play game,” give iHangman a try? iHangman [iTunes link] allows you to play the timeless game of hangman right on your iPhone.

Confirmed: Google was naughty, broke App Store rules with iPhone app

On last Sunday’s talkcast, we all speculated on the situation behind Google’s voice app using undocumented API calls on the iPhone. Either Google just went and did it themselves, or they got special permission from Apple to dive into places that most developers aren’t really supposed to go. And it turns out that the former is true: Google says to CNET that, yeah, they used undocumented APIs. What are you going to do about it?
