ALL iphones use sim cards! Remember this is NOT an unlock to use on a different carrier than what your iphone was bought for. This is only a DATA block. So YES it will work in Canada. If you do not know what “put the sim in the already activated phone” means you just cannot be hleped because that is as clear an explanation as can be given! You “activate” an iphone> then you put the data block on> then you take OUT the sim card and put the sim card in that you want to use.

Does anyone know if this would work in Canada with a provider that uses Sim cards, such as Fido?

Also,

TheOne I have never had a data plan and I use MMS with no problem on my iphone 3gS. I have family plan unlimited texting. It is NOT jailbroken. I only have the APN blocker on it. So the answer to your question is YES!

If i turn the data off, will i be able to recieve mms?

This is my brothers 3g and he just upgraded to 3gs

I am currently using a ATT Tilt, no data plan, just unlimited texting. I had this before they required all smartphones to have a dataplan so i have an extended data plan or something like that. Before i was not getting mms, until i called and they told me that i had to unlock data before i can send mms, but if i do, and i go on the internet, i will be charged..

my brother just gave me his iphone 3g and i want to use it..but i want to use the datablock but still want mms. Thanks

Charta yes you have all you need! You do NOT have to pay an early termination fee because well you are NOT terminating your contract! All you are doing is changing phones! Yopu will still be obligated for the 2 years to ATT but you are just NOT using the iphone data plan. According to ATT you are just using a different phone.

One last question. After going back through the 600+ comments, it seems that new iPhone (new to ATT) users will have to pay the early termination fee. Yet Cara’s writeup seems to be… an upgrade of sorts.

Right now I’m a new customer with AT&T and I have my friend’s old razr that has an extra SIM card in it (deactivated).

I know I will probably be berated for asking this, but do I have all I need to accomplish the transfer trick that Cara said?

Or will I have to shell out the 175 ETF?

Hey iPhone guy, my 3G also did the same. We just purchased ours 4 days ago and did the unlock and jailbreak on mine and daughters. These are the new3G’s AT&T carry not refurbs. Both had OS 3.12 also and we knew nothing about. any warning not to upgrade. Of course I see it now in Cydia, my wife’s got Tmobile through work so using her Sim now and typing this. The phone specs on both my and sons iPhones, both say 3.13 and I just installed a game via Cydia andam grabbing 1 more. If anything changes I’ lllet you know.

Hey all! Read through all of this and I’m very excited to start the process of turning my iPhone into the perfectly tailored device since for the next month or two, I’m going to be around wifi spots frequently. I just have only one question (and it slightly pertains to the writeup done by cara)

I’ve had the iPhone for 3 days now (new family plan w/ my mother). Would it be better to wait out the month till the first bill comes in or address it now? My only fear is getting the one representative that says “bring the iPhone back to the store and then we’ll change the phone there”.
