MobileInstallation for iPhone

If you like this post, please feel free to digg it, or subscribe to our RSS feed, or follow me on Twitter, or all of the above ;)

Have you noticed how difficult it is to find a copy of MobileInstallation lately? If you don’t know what this file is, let’s say that it is a pretty useful file should you want to use cracked games on your iPhone.

So I did some research and found different sources. From what I read, you can use MobileInstallation 3.0 Beta patch on a 3.0 iPhone. I haven’t tried this myself and if you do, please let us know how it went in the comments.

MobileInstallation patch for iPhone 3.0 Firmware:

MobileInstallation patch for iPhone 2.2.1 Firmware:

MobileInstallation patch for iPhone 2.2 Firmware:

MobileInstallation patch for iPhone 2.1 Firmware:

Older versions (not sure anymore)…

At the time I am writing this, all links work but they get taken down pretty quickly.

You should put each MobileInstallation file organized per FW version or it’ll make your iPhone hang on boot forever!

  • Scott said:

Just drop the .dylib extension name from the patch file and it will be ok

  • Hugo said:

Hi, I’ve got a roblem i can’t find the .dylib please help me
    I have windows VISTA

  • Sebastien (author) said:

@Hugo - sometimes the .dylib is not here, it depends where you download it from. If there is no .dylib, no problem, just keep going through the process

  • xtraa said:

Does it work with the 3g, too? Last time it didn’t altrough i set the perms correctly…

In any case thanks for the hints :)

  • minh said:

what’s diffterent between the mobileinstallation and the patch. do i need both?

  • Sebastien (author) said:

MobileInstallation is already on your iPhone. You need the MobileInstallation PATCH (link is above) and replace the original MobileInstallation with it (after backing it up of course)

  • mourad said:

Place the patched file into the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework folder and set the permissions 775 for the patched MobileInstallation file. If there is some type of extension (ie .dylib), then you need to remove that extension.

  • Murali said:

Can any one please tell me what mobileinstallation patch file do I have to put for FW 2.0.2
    Thanks

  • Sebastien (author) said:

    Hello Murali,

Since you’re running firmware 2.0.2, you will need the patched mobileinstallation 2.0.2 which you can probably find on google.

i am using iphonebrowser to patch the file i have patched it but how to change the permissions plzzzzzz help

  • Sebastien (author) said:

    Hello Ameya,

You can’t set permissions with iPhoneBrowser, you will need to use WinSCP or CyberDuck to do that.

  • Eric said:

Does this work with Ipod Touch 2.1?

  • Sebastien (author) said:

    Hello Eric,

Yes it does work for iPod Touch 2.1 but you will have to find the patched MobileInstallation for iPod Touch 2.1

I don’t have it listed here.

2.1.MI.patched.zip is the same .zip that i did use to jailbreak my iphone, that’s why im asking

  • Raz said:

I think that i will only have to change the permission on it

  • Alex said:

i didn’t backup my original mobileinstallation file, as i forgot to change the name to “mobileinstallation.bak” and i said yes to replacing original file. is this going to be a problem for me? Is there any way i can get the file back?

  • jamal said:

Does the mobileinstallation patch for 2.1 also work with the iphone 3g. i tested it with my iphone 8gb (first gen.) and it worked perfectly.

can any one tell which file should i download for the iphone 3g , am using V 2.1 ..!!

  • hyperlite said:

I jailbroke with quickpwn and used ssh to upload the 2.1 to my 2.2 3g phone and the applications started syncing with no problems.

  • Mojtaba cazi said:

    add this source to cydia

    http://iphone.org.hk/apt

you will found an automatic mobileinstallation patch !

  • Steve said:

For some reason (must’ve been half asleep or something) I downloaded and installed the 2.2 firmware through iTunes when it came out a couple of days ago, and I lost Cydia and all of the apps I got from there.

I’ve tried using the newly released QuickPwn tool and the MBI 2.1 patch but it still doesn’t work. Also, now WinSCP can’t connect to my iPhone (presumably due to SSH?). Is there something I’m doing wrong or did I really screw it up by downloading 2.2 from iTunes?

  • Sebastien (author) said:

@ Steve - check out my post about downgrading from 2.2 to 2.1. It is also now possible to jailbreak firmware 2.2 so that might be the answer to your problem.

  • Anonymous said:

Steve, the new version of QuickPwn works fine on the new version (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/).

Another thing, I tested MobileInstallation 2.1 yesterday on my 2.2 iPod touch, and it worked fine. I chose about 20 random apps to sync to my iPod, and they all worked fine. However, I prefer to have MobileInstallation 2.2 on my 2.2 iPod, why? I’m OCD, but the other one works fine.

  • Arthur said:

There are reports that you cannot upgrade an existing application unless you delete it first. Has anyone had that issue?

    hi… Where do i open::
    “/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework”??
is that on my iPhone or my Computer??
    Please help me!

  • Emad Shaabani said:

    1. First you must have jailbroken your iPhone.
    2. On your iPhone: Via Installer or Cydia get OpenSSH.
    3. On your computer: Get for example WinSCP on (Windows), fugu (on mac)
    4. After you have installed the program on your computer launch it and log in.

The iPhone must be connected to your WiFi-network and then you can log in with your iPhone’s IP-adress.

    username: root
    password: alpine

    5. Now you are connected to your iPhone via your computer over WiFi.
In WinSCP or fugu you now can navigate to:
    “/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework”??

  • Emad Shaabani said:

For those who can’t find Installer or Cydia after QuickPwn, try to restore again and jailbrake/unlock. When your done with the jailbrake/unlock DO NOT sync with iTunes yet.
Install OpenSSH and ad the mobile installation patch.
You can also add Poofapp (search on google for the zip) in the Applications folder. I believe that icons are missing because you used categories or poofapp before restoring to hide your icons.
Now you can sync with your iTunes backup and still use SSH

  • Emad Shaabani said:

If you have poofed cydia, installer, categories, poofapp you can try to download appflow and start poofapp from there. search on google and put it in the Applications folder on your iPhone via SSH

I had problems with installing regular appstore apps and updates on firmware 2.2 when this package was installed. Removing the package fixes all of my issues and I’m still able to install cracked apps with Installous.

  • Sergio said:

Hey, I’m having the same problem as Arthur. Just wanted to know if anybody had a fix for this problem. I need my updates! lol

  • Eric said:

Since upgrading and jailbreaking 2.2, my app store apps do not update from the phone. They begin downloading and then never make any progress until i restart. I can update them through itunes and sync them over, but only if I’ve deleted them from the phone first.

Are the mobileinstaller 2.2 links on this page legit?

This is just a pain in my ass…

Hi, I managed to reinstall back all the ipa cracked games using the second link of mobileinstallation 2.2 for my new upgraded FW2.2. They work fine and the wonderful part is, those games that I not yet finished are all sync back-ed from iTunes and I can continue the games to the next level without replay them again.

Bravo, thanks for providing the mobileinstallation patch, I love you man!!!

Is anybody else having problems with updating their FREE APPS from Apple? Directly or through syncing? I am having problems. Each time, there’s an update of any application I always need to delete that from my iPhone first and then I need to install the updated one which ends up being so stupid! I have categories so I always need to remove my icon from categories then delete it and then download an updated copy, so many steps. Does any know the solution to that? Also, has anybody updated their firmware to 2.2.1 and tried a compatible MobileInstallation file? Also, some chap whom I was playing a game with talked about Installous. I always SSH into my phone as I am comfortable with that but the lad said it was much easier to use Installous. What the hell is that?

  • Sebastien (author) said:

Dude! You’re getting free apps and you’re still complaining?!!? That’s insane! For the info, it is normal that you have to uninstal/reinstal apps all the time when there is an update. It’s just the way it is.

-Emergency Screen With iPhone 2g Tmobile Sim Card After QuickPwn-

Ran QuickPwn 3 times and successfully jailbroke the my iPhone 2g. Had access to Cydia and etc.

1st time installed QuickPwn without Tmobile sim card, used the AT&T card. Then I placed the Tmobile card in to receive the emergency screen.

2nd time, did the same thing and received the same message.

3rd time, installed QuickPwn with the Tmobile sim in the phone from the beginning and still received the message.

The unlock is successful, I’m just not able to use my Tmobile sim card in the iPhone. I’ve seen this same problem on other sites as well.

The 3rd MobileInstallation Version is not working. for the Official release of apple’s firmware.

When you will replace the file, iTunes won’t recognize yours device connection.

But If you will replace the file back to the original one, it will identify your device instantly
(luckly I backed up my file)
