VoIP service for iPhone by sipgate

sipgateThe San Francisco-based sipgate is offering a new software for your jailbroken iPhone to make and receive VoIP calls using VoIP service.

You can use sipgate to place and receive calls over Wi-Fi. The software is 100% standard compliant and is not tied to any particular SIP service. You can use it with any SIP service you like. And yes, it is 100% free. So far you can only use it on 1.1.4.

The service is still at its beta stage and still suffers from various issues and clings. For example, you won’t be alerted of incoming calls unless the software is running, which drains the battery like crazy. sipgate also makes it clear that you are using their app at your own risks as it may brick your phone

If you’re not scared of bricking your phone to say $2 on calls, you may test out the product. Sipgate is offering 111 free minutes if you sign up for their own VoIP service.
